  1. You may find they aren't as keen on it since it isn't as sweet but see what they think
  2. Should be fine
  3. You have two type 2 yellow face skyblue spangles, a skyblue spangle and a skyblue dilute dominant pied
  4. Yeah the cheap normal traps didn't work either, I thought I would upgrade to something more high tech but it hasn't helped :sadsorry: I am beginning to think that we breed 'em brainy around here
  5. Well done Deb, I still haven't caught a single one despite my expensive traps :sadsorry:
  6. The babies are grey I think as he is a grey green and they have white pin feathers, just hoping mum does a good job and we don't lose anymore chicks, out of the six chicks they started with they only have two left :sadsorry:
  7. Probably but it would mainly bond with your hen If you want your hen to stay friendly then the best thing to do is to get a seperate pair and breed them, that way your hen will still be your friend.
  8. I just got some of those jar waterers and it was sitting in the corner and he jammed himself behind it, it's a hard way to learn a lesson, I've now moved the others out of the corners. Fingers crossed I will at least have two of his chicks to show for it.
  9. This is the little guy He was one of my few nice normals and I had just discovered split for blue to :sadsorry:
  10. It would bond with your hen and then they would both not talk to you as much
  11. I just went out to check my breeders before it gets dark and to my horror found my green cock (the one with chicks at the moment) stuck behind the waterer dead, I only checked them at about 3:30 this arvo and he was fine. I pulled him out and he was still warm so he mustn't have done it very long ago I now have a single mum with two chicks so fingers crossed she is up to the task
  12. Besides we are buying a house in a few months so we'll have our very own air conditioner then
  13. I had a gazebo last year but we get extremely strong wind at our house (we are on the top of a hill) and it got badly damaged the first really windy day we had, despite being weighted down so I'm not going to spend the money on one this year, I'm installing some shade clothe over part of the back of the house including the concrete that opens up behind my breeding room and I'm hoping that might help. I never worried about the damp as if it's a hot enough day for them to need a spray the aviary is dry again within a few hours anyway
  14. We are in defence force housing and it is not a requirement for an air con to be installed in Melbourne, by living in this house rather than a private rental we recognise that we won't have an air con BUT in return we get really cheap rent

    Ikg for a 60kg human equals 1 gram for a 60gram budgie

How do rats hide in cement?

How about laying the lime and then putting a layer of thin shade cloth and then the sand over the top, that way any liquid would still run through but the birds wouldn't be able to dig in the lime layer Personally I have lino on all my floors and I find the dropping don't really stick to it, a good sweep with a hard bristle brom and it's all gone. In my new aviaries that I'm just setting up the lino will be layed over a timber false floor as they aren't on cement
  18. Yeah right!!!! I distinctly remember hosing down my aviary on the 40+ days last summer and I fully expect to be doing the same this year.
  19. Yep that's an 07 ring, I would say she is an early 07 bird though looking at her so probably nearly two years old.
  20. I have decided that any mice I catch alive will be released into my wheelie bin, that way they can hitch a ride to the tip where I'm sure there are millions of mice already anyway After not having much luck I think I might go back for some of that gel too, it was about $5 from recollection for a bottle about the size of an antrid bottle
  21. I saw those at Bunnings Kaz but I was a little dubious about them, might pick up a couple now that I know someone who has actually used them with success. I also saw at bunnings a little dropper bottle of baiting gel which claims to be better than peanut butter or nutella!
  22. If it was just me I would cope Kaz but it's the kids that go mental in the hot weather and the last thing I need when I'm hot and bothered is small children in bad moods
  23. The little yellow tips indicate green series and the wing markings look black so green normal I would guess
  24. We live in a rental with REALLY poor insulation so it's always only one or two degrees cooler than outside, which means on a 35 degree day its about 34 degrees in the house, etc. We struggled with an evaporator unit last year but it really just didn't help much. After keeping a solid eye on eBay looking for a bargain portable refrigerated air con I was about to give up as about the cheapest second hand is at least $300, well I was quick off the mark tonight and bought not one but two for $100. They apparently still work well and I figure for that price even if they only last this summer that's a-okay. Yipppeeeee, no more hot days
  25. Rather than no name how about Home Brand
