  5. Layer newspaper and pea straw... you water it a little (I think leave it for a bit) and then start adding your veggies, egg shells, tea bags etc... Don't quote me on that and I'm not sure on timing etc...
  6. Read this article: To clip or not. It is from our FAQ's and will explain the pro's and con's on wing clipping.
  7. A MUCH better start. Good stuff kiddo
  8. I LOVE this photo!!!!! Your camera is excellent too... and so is the photographer
  9. Awwww, LOVE it!
  10. Sure thing... I'll pick out my best 'homing budgies' and send them on their way!!!
  11. Often a hen won't sit on her eggs until she has laid a few, so don't stress about that. More than likely, she will begin sitting soon! As to the colour of the eggs... I'm pretty sure that's normal. As she hasn't started incubating them yet, nothing is happening. Once she starts, the eggs will change as the chicks develop.
  12. Very NICE branches... If you don't want them both AV, do you reakin Australia post would accept them with an Express Post sticker on them
  13. Great story. Thanks for sharing. I bet he was glad that perch appeared!
  14. I'm so sorry for your loss. Hugs xoxo Thanks for sharing this and the pictures. I did struggle to look at all the photos closely (a quick scroll did the trick!), but it is very beneficial to those who are interested.
  15. Great photos... and I LOVE the last one. Made me laugh lots and lots!!!
  16. I'm really sorry to hear about Bluie. Biggest hugs xoxo. From past experience, Budgies don't do well in surgery and stress and blood loss is a big worry. I think by watching him and deciding when the time is best for him, is probably the best way to go. I had a female budgie (who I had from an early age and who is the mother of 7 of my chicks) who went down hill over time. I noticed she was loosing weight, not eating and not really moving around the aviary like she used to. I took her to the avian vet and it turned out to be ovarian cancer. Sadly, she was euthanised on the spot. It was in her best interest as her quality of life was not great. It was quite upsetting, but in the end, it was the only decision I could make. I hope Bluie manages okay in the near future and enjoys the rest of his life with you... how ever long that may be. I do believe you will know when the time is to let him rest in peace, and I wish you love and good luck for this time. maesie xo
  17. Very cute chicks there
  18. Looking good. Your slab is a nice size and a great start. The shed is huge and will hold lots of breeding pairs . For the flights, I'd recommend a solid roof, and walls on the sides with possibly one or two open sides (this would depend on the way they will face, as you need to block cold breezes etc... I'd also put solid walls up to about knee height?!?! So mice etc... can't climb in. Then start your wire above this! Good luck and I look forward to the progress photos (I love them all!!! )

  21. Looking good LIV. Good luck and I hope you get some action soon!
  22. Thanks Maesie, in fact I was not sure how much we need to put for pet budgies, since I have only wild budgies and no tamed once. Also personally I feel it is always better to get complete things clear before we do. Okay my assumption is that 3 or 4 inches distance between perches should be fine and also 3 inches in length of perch each side is sufficient. Please correct me if I am wrong Sounds good. If you have 3 inch length on perch either side, that would fit 1 bird confortable, 2 at a squeez. You could make it a little longer if you like... say 4 inches.
  23. Looks fantastic Deb. You have done a great job and you must be so pleased.
  24. Firstly I'd like to welcome you here and hope you find the answers you're after. Above, I have listed the comments in your posts that worry me. The first... if you are concerned she is not ready to breed. Then don't do it. Female budgies USUALLY don't lay eggs when their is not a nest box, but as you mentioned, she has been ripping up the newspaper on the bottom of the cage. She obviously sees this as a good place to nest, and that is why she is laying. If you do not want her to breed, then DO NOT add the nest box, or if you have already done so, remove it! I'd also remove the newspaper from the bottom of the cage, or put a grate over it so she can't rip it up. She may drop a few more eggs from the perch, but she should stop. Secondly, although breeding is very exciting, especially when things go to plan and the eggs hatch and babies survive, it's not as simple as many seem to think. If you are seriously interested in breeding, I suggest you go thorough or FAQ's (top of the forum) and do your research before putting in a nest box and letting nature take its course. Good luck with them and please keep us updated. maesie
  25. Sounds like fun KAZ. I hope you get her finished in time!
