Charley's Head Rubbing... Raw...
Poor Charley! He might have some sort of irritation and by rubbing his head it is releaving it??? Maybe mites??? If you have spot on ivermectin, I'd give him a spot of that on the back of his neck and see if this helps.

My Aviary Birds Are Sick...
Thanks BB1. We spoke about Coccidiosis and along with no symptoms of this, their poos were clear of all nasties. My aviary floor is concrete and doesn't get rain in it. It has been very cold down here but not overly wet. Thanks again for your suggestions Deb and SW... I didn't see a wedding ring so that's a start. I'm thinking I'll have to start training Gucci and Dolce to play doctors and patients... I'll be the doctor and they can be the patients. Once they have it down pat I'll ring up and request an appointment with 'him'. I might start with them 'playing sore wing or foot'... :hap:

My Aviary Birds Are Sick...
The vet visit went well. I couldn't get into to see my usual avian specialist, so I had to see a guy... and... I'm in love he was very nice and HOT... and good with birds!!! During the consultation we spoke in depth about the birds/diseases/symptoms etc... and he got the feeling I knew what I was talking about. He also said it was nice to see birds brought in that weren't really unwell and that it's evident I look after them well and know what to look out for. I mentioned about the BBC and he said it sounds wonderful!!! So, I ended up taking 4 budgies and Bert. Bert was freaking out as she isn't handled very much, but she didn't bite very hard or much, so that was a plus. He gave her a good once over. She didn't sneeze whilst in there (typical). Her eyes and nostrils were clear, no discharge. Her chest and breathing sounded good, and she 'felt' good too. He said he can't see any signs of an 'illness' and didn't want to put her on anything just because she is sneezing. Also, if it was something serious causing it, some of the other birds would probably showing signs too... and they're not. He thought it could be an allergy and decided to give her a low dose of cortisone. He said to see how she goes, but thinks that if it is an allergy and her symptoms don't progress, it's probably not worth doing anything major and her general health is excellent... so a thumbs up for her. The budgies... I took Crackle, John, Paul and George. Each was examined very well. He asked a million and one questions about the aviary, what they are feed, their eating/drinking/pooing habits... he said all felt good. There didn't appear to be any signs of infection etc... of the crop, there is no vomiting/regurgitating of seeds, and they look and seem healthy. Poos were normal and Crackles pooy bum was looking better and may have just been the result of something she ate. His thoughts are they are over weight. He said their keel bone is very well padded and thinks the enlargement is fat!!! :hap: I've been killing them with love. They always have access to budgie seed, fresh branches and regular veggies... but since moving the Cockatiels in with the budgies, there has also been parrot mix, which contains sunflower seeds and such... and I recently bought a bag of hulled oats and a bag on sunflower seeds to fatten up Gucci and Dolce, and the aviary birds have access to both of these... all of the time. When I give it to them, it doesn't last long, but Ive never seen the budgies eating them so I presumed the tiels were the ones... I guess not! :hap: So... I went home and let the birds free (much to their delight!!! ). Then I removed all of the seed and only left budgie mix. He said to try this for some time and see how they go. I'll be watching them closely and if symptoms show themselves, he said to take them back. I'm extremely relieved and will make sure their diet is under control. I'm thinking that because this winter has been very cold, they may have gone a little over board on the comfort food Thanks everyone for your concerns and thoughts... maesie xo

My Aviary Birds Are Sick...
Mmm. I phoned the vets as soon as I saw them. Hopefully they are well on the road to recovery before I head off on hoilidays... When I was looking to leave home, Dad told me if I can't take my aviary with me, that he will look after them for me. I do think he does like it too . I am usually around there twice a week, for my big clean out etc... but it's not the same as a twice-a-day check like I used to. I do feel guilty when they get sick and blame myself etc... but I know it's not my fault and these things happen.

My Aviary Birds Are Sick...
Yep... they always have plenty of seed and fresh water daily. My Dad is awesome and looks after them. They still get regular veggies/natural branches too... Have you seen anything that looks like this before?

My Aviary Birds Are Sick...
I went home to Mum and Dad's for tea tonight and did my usual check of the birds. The first thing I noticed was Crackle had a pooy bum and was looked fluffy and not quite right. I went into the aviary and noticed two of the others the same, but no pooy bum and not as bad... I caught two of them and they have similar symptoms as when they were sick in January. This is a picture of Crackle in January: She's the grey one. Notice the enlarged chest/crop etc?!?!?! Well back then it felt soft and like it had air in in. Her and some others were put on antibiotics as the bacteria was a little 'off'. They all improved but the enlarged area never really went away. They were 100% other than that. This time around, they appear to look worse... more fluffy, the enlargement seems a little larger, and it feels hard! Whether this means it's the same as before and just worse and therefor feels hard, or, it may be something else worse... I have also noticed Bert (female cockatiel) has been sneezing... mmm. So I have an appointment tomorrow at 2pm. I'll be taking Crackle, two or her sisters and Bert. Should be fun trying to catch her!!! It's so upsetting and stressfull... If any one has any ideas as to what may cause this, please let me know...

Quarantine Shortcuts
Well said Kaz... poor bird hey?!?! I read so many posts by members saying they broke quarantine, for what ever reason... and it's NOT always the newbies... QUARANTINE is a must, regardless of where you get the birds from and how they look. 30 days minimum for all birds. Better to be safe than sorry i say

Has Anyone With Kids Used Any Of The Tricks To Choose The Sex Of Baby?
I remember hearing something about the jocks/undies etc... the guy wears can influence what you have. I can't remember which way it is though... But I think it is if he wears briefs, and therefor his 'bits' are keep warmer as they would be snug as a bug in a rug (warmer), then you'll have a boy and if he wears boxers, his 'bits' will be loose and free and therefor cooler, then you'll have a girl.... so what ever jocks your hubby currently wears... make him change to the opposite!!!
