  1. Not a silly question. You may never see your budgie drink, but they do. Just remember to always provide fresh, clean drinking water. Shannon.. be careful about making such statements. People may think this can mean you can with hold water from them VERY DANGEROUS!!! They need daily fresh water. The do however get water/liquids from veggies and fruit etc... and this is why when you medicate via water you should with hold veggies etc... so they drink their medicine.
  2. How long did you have Cinamon for? It's very normal for new birds not to eat and look stressed. I personally believe there is never a good reason to break quarantine, esp the reasons you gave. Many a member on here have learnt this lesson from experience, and I just hope you don't as well. I don't hate you, I just wouldn't have done it myself. All that being said, they are sweet birds.
  3. Sounds great. Were they from your garden? When collecting from the street/parks you have to be very careful they haven't been sprayed etc... I'd also recommend rincing in water regardless of where you collected them from too. As to too much... I'd say no. My birds get regular 'greens' and no harm done. As to his veggies, try the same 'bunched with string' with some veggies... bok choy, lengths of carrot (cut in strips) and maybe some beans??? If he likes his grass like that, maybe he will like his veggies like it too. You can also get fruit skewers where you thread your veggies (esp corn on the cob) onto, then screw it into the top piece and hang... another idea??? Some of my birds only eat there veggies 'hanging' where as others like them in bowls. Just experiment with what your guy like.

Hi and welcome to the forum... I look forward to getting to know you and your birds. Remeber, no question is ever silly as it may be something others want to know but don't want to ask!

  6. okay... you wouldn't expect them to but possibly want them to. Maybe this was not voiced correctly or they may have misunderstood. Also, many vets will not simply supply ivermecton without a consult... especially if they don't know you. This would help avoid mis-diagnosis by uneducated owners... and then even sicker birds being brought in to fix up as they were treated incorrectly. It's the same as Dr's... you can't siply ring up and say... I need 'so and so' as I have a 'blah blah blah'... UNLESS of course you are a current patient who has been on the medication before and they are happy to continue to supply it to you. But, as you say, your bird will be seen by another vet...
  7. ... 'good luck with that'... budgie will destroy it all, and you'll have to replant and fix it all up. Also with a soil floor, mice etc can be a problem. As to having quails and cockatiels, we'd need to know the overall size of the aviary before commenting.
  8. It's a tough situation... as we do not know what happened between you and the recptionist or what was being said, I can't comment and even if we did know what was said by you, it's still only half of the story... Overall, I'm kind of on the fence on this, yes, the heath of any living being is more important than personal issues, but that being said, if the situation was threatening in some way, or the Dr was asked to do something he or she didn't believe in, they have every right to refuse. I know it's very different, but when I worked in customer service, abusive customers can be refused service and even escourted off the property. In a medical situation, i.e Dr/Vet rooms, I would think this would be more of a risk. Again, I'm not saying you were abusive, just trying to get my point accross. I guess when it comes down to it, if someone refuses to see you or your pets, you wouldn't want to see them in the end anyway... Good luck with the new vets! (on a side note, you say you wouldn't want them to supply you with an unapproved drug, I thought (correct me if I'm wrong) that ivermection is not made for birds, therefor when we are given it, it's for off the label use??? Isn't that the same as 'unapproved'??? maybe I'm mistaken????
  9. As a renter, multiple frames on walls is a no no... but I have an idea which allows muliple photos... maybe a weekend project!?!?
  10. Cheers Kaz! I'm quite happy with them
  11. Exciting stuff. I have my fingers crossed for you and am looking forward to the photos!
  12. That's why the topic is called cacti and succulants I don't know names but love them all!!! I hear you have a collection of sorts too... would love to see some photos
  13. OUCH!!! That would have hurt, poor cat
  14. I got home from work tonight and decided to photograph some of my cacti and succulants. As I'm renting they are all in pots and I love to see them grow and occasionally flower. The one below with the yellow flower has another 6+ buds about to flower, but I had been watching the current flower blossom and just couldn't wait any longer. Enjoy!
  15. With that info I say no... it's not big enough to house both. The issues is not with the grass parrots either... if they are the docile ones, your budgies could hurt them... That's purely my opinion, I'd just hate for you to have losses based on what you hear from us. Losses are bad enough without being the fault of your own.
  16. What size is the aviary Matt? It's really irresponsible to advice someone to keep a mixed species avairy when we have NO idea how big his aviary is.

I'd go for another male since your current one is male. And send libby a PM, she's awesome and in WA.
  18. Sounds great... I look forward to the pics. Hope you're feeling better too!
  19. maesie replied to Pearce's topic in Budgie Pictures
Great photos as usual Pearce. You have some stunning little 'kids' too.
  20. Not a well looking girl... I'd be off to the vet asap, in the mean time, warm lamp
  21. maesie replied to Simon's topic in Budgie Safety
I'd be leaning towards no... Not safe for children=not safe for birds in my book... but that me. Most budgies will chew anything and everything. I used to have a wooden divider in my aviary and they chewed it to pieces in no time. Can you just paint the outside to weather proof it as you say and leave the inside raw. I'm assuming you're using a budgie safe wood too yeah?
  22. Yup... agree with the others, a VERY NORMAL sign!!!
  23. You seem to be doing the right thing... perhaps add a lamp on her to provide her with some warmth (40w globe). If she's eating and drinking, it's a good thing. Try giving her some leafy greens, bok choy or herbs pegged on the side of the cage, or some natural branches etc... she might nibble at them. I would remove the shell grit, she doesn't need it, and don't worry about the cuttlefish.. many don't eat it anyway. Perhaps also try covering her cage (leave on side open). Moulting aid sounds like a good move... possibly a vet trip if you're still worried... Good luck and please keep us updated... as to the toes, it could be from a lack of calcium etc... when she was little and if she's not having a problem getting around, I'd say not to worry re that... but don't take my word on it... Photos also help if you can
  24. Woo, very exciting!! Can't wait to follow this journey...
