Sitting
A little , but animals of all species can sense fear as well as stress in humans. They also know when things are not right as well... After my Mum was released from hospital and rehabilition, she spent a lot of time in bed. Our cat, Sammi (RIP) would sit at the end of her bed and sleep until she got up. She also had a bell she'd ring for help, but if for some reason we didn't hear it, Sammi would come and get us. Animals are great like that...

Old Fashioned Sewing Box...
Oh... the memories. I remember watching her darn socks, and she also had one of those mushroom things. I don't think I ever learn as such, but I do remember putting our holey socks aside for when we went to see Granny again. My Granny was an amazing cook in her day too, as most Grandma's are. All her children and all the Grandchildren now have a cook book which was compiled with all the recepies she had 'in her head' and those she'd written down.

Old Fashioned Sewing Box...
Thanks! It is just great. It's quite big when it's extended and holds memories and sewing equiptment... :raincloud: And I agree about the grandmother thing. I still remember her teaching me how to darn holes in socks and how to knit (which still to this day I can't do... too much of a perfectionist!!!) Your current sewing box sounds like my jewelery box... great for all my necklaces, bracelets and earings (esp after shopping in Bali)

Old Fashioned Sewing Box...
I didn't receive a sewing basket for christmas, and never got around to buying on. My parents were up visiting my Granny a few weeks ago, and mentioned to her how much I loved her sewing basket, and that I'd been looking for one. My Granny is not well at the moment and has cancer. She's not expected to make it to next christmas. She's started marking things she wants given to certain family members. So, hearing that I love her sewing basket (which to her is just that... nothing special) she decides that I will receive it. Instead of waiting till she passes, she went through it and gave it to my parents to give to me for my 30th Birthday. I was not aware of this...and I must admit, I did shed some tears... It doesn't look like anything special, but the memories mean so much more. She left many things in it, and I'll just add to it. Apart from the box itself, I love the buttons. As a child I remember playing with them as she mended my socks... I've already managed to use some of them. I bought a skirt the other day which had ugly gold buttons. I took them off and replaced them with all odd black buttons from her... It's now a special skirt... So, here it is:

Creature Comforts...
I'm not sure if you have seen or heard about this, but it's a series by the makers of Wallace and Gromit. There are a few DVD which can be bought in Australia at ABC shops and some DVD shops. The series puts the voices of ordinary people into the mouths of various plasticine animals, and covers varying topics from 'the beach' to 'self image'. Below is a link to one of my favorites. It goes for 9 minutes, but worth the watch. It's the UK version too. Being a Bird

Worried About Feeding Times
Mirrors aren't good. As Dean said, he'll become attached to it and not you. I'd avoid them. As to a proper cage, I'm not the best one to ask about this... but click on this link for good and bad cages for when he is ready: Good and bad cages You mentioned he was eating his own poo. That tells me his is pecking at this on the ground. I'd suggest sprinkling some proper bird seed to encourage him to eat on his own. You could also introduce some veggies to. Corn, peas, greens. Avoid those high in water content such as lettuce and celery. Is he perching on the bars in his cage? Perhaps encourage him to do so. I'm sure someone else will be able to give you better advice re the cage.

Purchasing Budgies
It seems the original topic has been well covered and swept under the rug. I've been following the discussion that followed, and feel it can now be closed. If any further topics want to be discussed, feel free to start a new topic in another section.
