  1. Good suggestions above... When I was trying to fatten up my girls, I gave the separate bowls of each... in addition to their normal seed. It took mine awhile to eat them, but once they did, there was no stopping them. Good luck and please keep us updated on how they are going.
  2. I'm the same as Liv...
  3. Hey Cam... a few suggestion from me. I know you're only young and may not have much money... but she could do with a bigger cage. One like my girls have is perfect: But for the moment... I'd start by re-arranging her cage. Try not to have branches running the length of her cage, as it encourages them to be lazy. Your natural branch looks great too, but I would try and get two shorter ones, or break that in half and put one at either end of her cage... a little away from the ends so she has room to sit. Different thickness' are good too and she shouldn't be able to touch her toes together around the branch. Is she bonded with you... usually mirrors are a bad thing as they cause her to become attached to her 'mate' in the mirror... maybe get rid of them. Where do you keep her and what time do you cover her cage for bed time... Try and increase her night hours... I think 12 ish... is ideal... Keep an eye out for any toys she's particularly attached to and swap them around... change is the key. I know you've had issues getting her to eat veggies, I'd keep trying with them... corn on the cob, peas etc... often veggies in a dish with some seed on top works well. Also, try giving her some native branches with their leaves etc... she will enjoy eating them and pulling them apart... which also might take her mind of laying. A nice big branch that she can get lost in is cool!!! At the moment we need to break her routine... and stop this laying... along with the above suggestions, move things round a little... if she's in your room, can you re-arrange it so she's in a different spot? It's all about making her feel less comfortable in her surrorundings... might sound mean but she feel comfortable enough to lay eggs, and being a lone budgie, she should'd do this. That's all I have for the moment. I hope some of these ideas help and others can comment more. Let me know if you need anything else and I'm happy to help you out with more photos aswell.
  4.  Thanks for sharing all your photos... especially the one above!!!
  5. Nice birds... but I'm no help with pairings... Good Luck
  6. Awww, damn hey!!! I hope you don't loose any more mate!!! (((((hugs)))))
  7. Geez Macka... I'd hate to be one of your children... especially if a vitamin C tablet didn't get rid of my cold!!! :rip:    I really feel for all of those who have had losses such as these... for those with smaller flocks and growing attachments to our birds, it must be so hard. I hope all is sorted out soon... and MB, becareful with your health and bub!!! Maybe put a screen door on your garage for those nice days. You can often get cheap ones from old recycling places!

Your photography is just amazing!!! Your cage is awesome too... A few suggestions if I may. I wouldn't put any branches running the full length of the cage... it can encourage them to 'walk' across instead of fly... Your natural branches are awesome too... I'd suggest putting in a few bigger ones sitting in the bottom with their leaves etc... they'll love them. Like a 'mini tree' in their aviary!!! Also rope perches are excellent... just something different for their little feet to grip. Your birds are great too... and Max is a stunner!!! Offer him plenty of veggies to fatten him up... millet is great too...
  10. Very cool you could watch it Deb... probably a good experience in the long run. I hope the new treatment works... I'd also be heading down to this 'so called breeder' and informing them of your morning. Pity you couldn't get photo to show them!!! Grrr
  11. I see in your profile you have one budgie... If this is the case, her eggs won't be fertile. Where is she laying them? If you have a nest box, remove it. She doesn't need one. I would try and discourage this egg laying behaviour... Change her cage around... a change can often do the job. Give her more 'night' hours... make sure she has plenty of fresh fruit and veggies and add a calcium supliment to her water... I know you have had trouble in the past getting her to eat fruit and veggies... try corn on the cob... mine love it. Perhaps you could post a photo of her cage here... she must have some where she finds suitable to lay these eggs... we need to stop this behaviour quick smart.
  12. So sorry Deb... I'd definately get the others checked out... fingers crossed you don't loose any more... be sure to be extra, extra careful before going down to the aviary... the kids as well!!! Don't want it spreading.
  13. Why not!!! :rip: I got mine off ebay... they have some great cages... just shop around either on the internet or in shops... and ask plenty of questions... Feel free to post any possibly photos here as well as you are sure to get an honest answer!!!
  14. I am going to use this method with all my budgies. I tried putting the hen into the cabinets with nestbox and then a couple of days later introduce the male but a couple of hens took to the nestboxs and were not interested in the males. Your idea above is good , but remove the box when you put the cock bird in then replace the box in 5 days time. Already suggested by Kaz before... this is the method Deb is refering to and is now following.
  15. Nice pairs... Good luck with them and I look forward to seeing the results!

Her name is SPICE as suggested by a treasured friend
  17.  That is just too funny!!! I guess if it was an issue you could always try giving her a dish without a lid and see if she does it... but that being said... I think it adds to her quirkiness...

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my grandpa last year, also not expected and at the begining of a battle with cancer etc... It is such as blessing she did not suffer. Biggest hugs and love to you and your family xoxoxoxoxoxox
  21. Try putting smaller wire over the bit you think they are getting in... A temporary option so you can move it when you clean... if it works... great, if not, what size is your wire??? maybe they are getting in there???
  22. Good on you love... I would do the same. I know you will do what is right in your heart.. Thinking of you and sending you lots of hugs and love xoxoxox

How often Shannon??? Celery is VERY high in water, and should only be feed in small amount's/not often. It is like some lettuce... full of water and very little nutrients... kind of pointless to feed, in my opinion. I prefer Bok Choy and alike... better for my birds. Lovage... you learn something new every day. I've never heard of it. I also agree with Elly, if in doubt... DON'T
  24. Good on you for sticking to it. Perhaps show her this post below... it shows what illness' they can get get/spread if you don't stick to quarantine. WHY WE SHOULD QUARANTINE
  25. Congratulations... it's normal for the hen not to want the cock in the nestbox, she can handle a number of eggs... my last clutch was five, but many members have had more. Keep up her egg mix but also still over her regular diet... you may find she is eating it more as it contains the nutrients she needs right now... no dramas there... Good luck and keep us updated.
