  1. Everything happens for a reason hey
  2. No they didn't . If you're refering to Steel and Saphine, Saphine died
  3. Olly is cute, or because he is green and gold(yellow) like Australia's colours, what about Aussi, Roo (Kangaroo), Joey (baby Kangaroo), Wombat...
  4. Doesn't usually work like that Matt. Having them in pairs or more means they bond to each other more than you, making bonding and taming harder. You can have a tame budgie for years and then add another, and you often find that tame one will become less focussed on you in no time. That being said, as I said before, if you are willing to put in the time and effort, as Birdluv will, taming two can be done. Individual sessions usually work best, as Birdluv also knows
  5. As far as I'm aware, birds don't get fleas, but I would be wary of allowing Eagle to ride on Rum for a number of reasons. The obvious one of safety, especially if Rum finds it disdainful. As to the danger of revolution, if you part the fur and apply to his skin, Eagle shouldn't be in danger ingesting it, but disallowing him might be an idea for now...
  6. I still think you have a very handsome boy... maybe he is just in touch with his inner female
  7. Agree! Some hens also sit tigher than others, which can result in eggs hatching sooner and closer together.
  8. Nose??? The bit above the beak is called a cere
  9. Sounds great! I always liked having them in pairs. I know it makes taming harder, but if you're willing to put in the effort and time (as I know you are) I'm sure all will go well. Good luck with your decision!

I've known a few Louie's... Some had it as a nickname/short for Louise, and one that was her name , and none of them were women wrestlers Name meanings...
  11. Agree 100% with Kaz. You will probably notice they may be annoyed with you because you removed them, but will get over it. The benefits will be well worth it in the long run!

Louie can be a girls name too... cute, and so is she. With Kaz's guesstimate on age, I'd be waiting 4-5 months (just to be safe), and then breeding if she's in condition then (if you want to)
  13. Um, and how does your cat being destructive have anything to do with me asking how long my BIRD will be in her breeding condition for? DrNat was refering to the destructive behaviour. We are TRYING to help you here! Do you cover their cage at night? If so for how long? Increasing night time hours can sometimes assist in behaviour changes, such as unwanted breeding etc... I suggest trying this. Perhaps but I don't see a connection between a cat being destructive, and a bird being destructive cause she is in her breeding condition.. And yes I cover the cage, but I do it about an hour after its gotten dark and dad generally uncovered them when he wakes up [which at that point its still dark]. Everyone reads things/sees things differently I guess. I got what she was saying I can't remember off hand, but I think 12 hours is recommended... especially when trying to stop certain behaviours. Other than that, I agree with previous suggestions re: distraction ideas. Change their cage around often and provide plenty of different toys and foraging ideas. I find, with my birds, they are all different, some like toys, some don't, some destroy everything, some don't. Some moult for longer than others. Her destructive behaviour may be brought on by being in breeding condition, or it could be just who she is. Being 9mths old, she could just be developing this behaviour for other reasons.

The keeper was VERY wrong. Definately female. How old is she?
  15. I hear you! We all do things we regret, even if they don't turn out to be bad... Your birds will enjoy this plant, if you want to try it again. I cut off a nice big branch (you may want to start with a smaller one if your guys aren't used to them), I rince with some water and put it in... leaves, bark and flowers...

  17. That's a Grevilla. They are native and perfectly fine for budgies to eat. My guys love our Grevilla species we have in the garden. They especially love the flowers. I'm glad your guy is okay, whether or not he cut himself on one of the branches is something you will probably never know, but I do no the above plant is not posionous.
  18. Piccolo... LOVE it!!!
  19. How big is your cage? Can you bring it in of a night time? This is when mice are most active.
  20. Aww, so sorry for your loss xo
  21. My quarantine involves separate rooms (30days), separate free fly areas (in the room they are in), and wash hands after handling (I also always feed/handle my original birds first, then the 'newbies') I only treat with ivermectin on the back of the neck, and a worming treatment. Other than that, I watch for dirty bottom and behaviour. Everyone is different and factors which can contribute to different quarantine procedures can include recent losses due to illness, number of current birds and possible value (esp in the high end breeding game) etc... I'm in no way saying that because you have one budgie and are introducing one new one, that your quarantine procedures should be less important than if a top show breeder was introducing birds to their stud... but I do believe these factors can influence how quarantine can differ, based on some factors...
  22. Hugs babe xoxoxox
  23. Hi and welcome. I'd also suggest corn, carrot, peas leafy greens (not lettuce) I look forward to seeing your budgies and just remember not to breed them until they are 12 months old.
  24. I am very much looking forward to following this thread... she's beautiful!
