Hello and welcome. I'm soory about the loss of Maxy and I'm sorry you have joined with such issues with Mickey. He sounds very special. Many members here have 'special needs' budgies. I'd remove all the shiney toys and mirrors. Maybe give him some foraging toys... food wrapped in paper etc... to give him something to do. You could also leave a radio on when your not home. If you did want to get him a friend, you could get him a very young/baby budgie. This way there would be less chance Mickey would get picked on as him being the older of the two, he could look after the little one. The new budgie would have to be quarintined in another room for 30 days before introduction though. If it was me, that's what I would do, but this has to be your decision, esp. as you know Mickey the best and how you think he'd best cope. I'd love to see a photo of this special little guy.

Try putting the millet on the bottom of the cage, also offer some veggies cut up really small or blended together... corn, carrots, greens...

:hap: .... Sad, I know!!! Well, it's a week tomorrow morning until my first overseas trip. I'm off to Bali for two weeks and I can't wait. It'll be nice to get away from everything here!!! Except my pets... I'll miss them dearly, but I know my Dad will look after them well. Not as good as me, but they'll be fine. I'm about to type out a care sheet for the budgies, tiels and lizards.If it's all written down, he can't forget anything. I went supermarket shopping last night. I figure if I go in advance, I can go again when I realise I've forgotton something! I spent $146.00!!!!! ... those simply things you never need to buy all at once that add up!!! Toothpaste, sunscreen, aeroguard... I'm going to start sort of packing tomorrow... just so I've got time to re-assess and re-pack etc... I'm guessing you can all tell by now I'm quite anal!!! I've been very fortunate my friends have organised the whole trip. All I've done is give them my share of the money. If I was organising it, I'd be stressing more. It's just me... I've always been like this... So, I'm organising bills I need to pay before I go, letters I need to respond to. I've bought cat food for the cat (a vet prescribed one which is very expensive and my parents won't pay for), I bought bird seed for the budgies and tiels, tomorrow I'm off to buy worms and globes for the lizards, I need to photocopy my license and Passport (to have if either get lost), I need to buy some shoes, a bag(the ones you have under your clothes for money etc...), I need to fill my prescriptions (must have two weeks worth), while at the chemist I have to buy travel sickness tablets (I'm a shocker) and tummy/poo tablets (Laughing out loud)... I have a Dr's appointment on Wednesday for my final Hep B shot and Flu shot, I have a hair appointment on Thursday (my sis is a hairdresser) for a cut and colour... Phew... writing this down is making me more stressed!!! (Laughing out loud)... Um, for the ladies... (I need to de-hair my entire body... yes... all of it!!!) The sun will be seeing some parts of my body very unfamilar to it Nothing like a full body strip!!! OUCH. While I'm away, my wonderful father is painting my room, so I have to move most of my furniture out and remind him again of what to paint!!! Is there anything you can think of that you wish you had have taken on a trip you have been on? Anything you wish you had done before leaving... That's all from me for now... Sorry to hear about Tralia and Nibbler youngest one. It's sad to loose any birds, regardless of how old they are. Maybe they only wanted to raise 4 bubs, or maybe they knew something was wrong with it. They always say mother knows best. Anyway... the remaining 4 look really well. It's so cool to see such difference colours and variations in the one nest.

I used to have two lizards in cages in my bedroom. But for those who have lizards, know just before they are about to empty their bowels, they run around like a... well, you know! AND my big boy Albert used to do that most mornings at 6am... thanks for that wake up!!!

The close up photos also enable 'wanna be' builders to have a go at something similar too. :hap: However... it is making me want to build something again...mmm thinking cap is on again! Oh, don't feel like an idiot. It's not your fault. The pet shop assistant just had no idea, which is no surprise. I had a lizard for three years before he died. It turned out Archie was actually a girl. I didn't bother changing his/her name...
