Bloody Flight Fether
This is your baby If it was the long feather that fell out then it could be due to french moult or the feather was weakened because its all on its own. Do you have a photo of the feather that fell out ?? Also on the tail. it looks like the primary feathers are broken... are they?? If they are, look closly and do you see lines running across the width of the feather??? If so then they are caused by lice. Lice eat the feathers and weaken the shaft of the feather causing them to bend and break. it may be another cause of the feather issues. Lice are easily treated with sprey.

Moving Interstate With Charley
Perhaps give him some training in the cage. You could put him in it for a little while every few days, and have him sitting next to you while you do your normal duties, talk to him, watch telly etc. so he feels comfortable in the cage and knows he is secure. This is what is done to train budgies to sit happily in a show cage, otherwise they spend the entire time at the show trying to escape and get poorly judged.

All the best with them all Renee. I hope everything works to plan

Bloody Flight Fether
Its just a blood feather which is a new feather that is still growing. If the feather has come out completely then the wing should not bleed. If there is any blood from the wing then there may be a portion of the quill remaining in the follicle and will need removing. Birds can bleed to death from a blood feather as while the feather is growing, it has an artery connected directly to it.

Pairing Some Of My Birds.
Yes, she is Squawker, who STILL squawks like nuts!! She is being a really good mum at the moment, she wont leave the box now she has eggs. When i peak in to check her, she looks at me (without squawking) and slightly moves off her eggs to show me what she has, the settles back down again Her hubby is Dunstan

Some Just Dont Get It
Is a dirty cage unhealthy for a bird? I was just wondering. I don't clean my bird's cage every week. It gets done every two weeks at the most. Perhaps this is what killed my parakeets. It wasn't extremely dirty or growing mold or anything, but it wasn't cleaned for at least three weeks. Their cage was somewhat difficult to clean and big. They got clean water and food every day though. They died of some disease because they were both weak and died within two days of each other. My quaker parrot is well taken care of and healthy. I don't neglect my beloved birds.

To Give Medicine Or Not ?
If your budgie is not in pain and the anti inflamatiries are not thought to improve mobility, then i wouldnt bother. You could try giving your budgie apple cider vinigar in her water and omega 3 oil in the seed - this combination helps human arthritis and both elements are safe for budgies - worth a try in my mind

All Systems Go!
Thanks so much I forgot to add this picture. The front part just past the door where the edge dissapears and you can see the orange plastic, is where one of the flights will go so there will be a new slab put there

When Is Skinny Too Skinny?
I agree with Kaz, Skinny in my mind is sickly when you can not feel any real "meat" on the rib cage. You want to be able to feel the breast bone, not so its really sharp, but so you can still feel it. If you cant feel it or it feels really dull then the bird is over weight. Also a skinny budgie has a real light feeling about you. a budgie should feel solid in your hands. Megabacteria can be a wasting disease and can stop a bird putting on condition and will eventually kill them if left untreated. I might be worth getting your budgie looked at to make sure she is healthy before putting her with the others.

All Systems Go!
There has been some major progress on the bird room The shed was moved from its old spot, to its new location so now it is finally square, rather than on a weird angle A fair bit of time passed after the shed moved.... but this weekend it all ramped up again as we got ready for the concrete slab. The earth was dug out and the shed lifted up 75mm to allow room for a thick slab without the concrete going up the sides of the tin Then the plastic was laid. not as easy as it looks as we had to lift the shed to get it underneath a bit of a mess, but all boarded up and edged ready for the concrete I thought this was adorable. Alex put his wheel burrow next to 007's ready for action When the truck arrived the kids went nuts. they they thought it was the best thing ever! Alex worked had delivering cement from the truck to my very clever father-in-law who is a jack of all trades. My father-in-law working hard laying the cement. He spent hours in the searing 35 degree heat to get the floor beautifully smooth In a day or so i just have to go in a clean the excess cement marks from the walls and it will look a treat. This week i am making a screen door and a window and hoping to be able to get the birds in there next weekend. YEAH for Progress!!! :bliss: 007 and my FIL deserve a big  :thankyou:  and for all their hard efforts this is still not over by the way, there is still lots to do, but now the concrete slab is laid, we can start to use it. Still got to lay more concrete for the aviaries, move the aviaries and build more flights etc etc in and around the birdroom, so there will be more progress later

Kookaburra Behaviour
My mum also has kookaburras in her yard too, she has a family of 3 visit - 2 parents and one of their offspring who seems disabled. They come by every season to drink from my mum's bird bath... They are beautiful creatures I have never heard of wild kookaburras bonding to humans but i am sure it happens

My New Clearwings
Great birds. I agree the violet hen looks poorly at the moment. perhaps she has damaged her wing... it looks like she is favoring one side.
