  1. It is always possible to tame a budgie, no matter how old. If you have done the gradual approach with no success then i would try the more forced approach. First, clip his wings (if they aren't already) Then take him out of his cage and hold him in another room away from his cage. Handle him a lot, make him tunnel though your hands and crawl around your shoulders etc. Work with him every day and he will eventually trust that your hands wont hurt him. good luck.
  2. Oh i hope you have a blast and bring home some birds that you are really satisfied with :bluebudgie:

no, i think you will need about 1/2 a trailer to cover that size. It also depends how deep yoou want it
  5. Kind of like a movie set this is what mine is, and you can see its very popular with the hens who are keen
  6. must be an avian pro biotic though as humans and other mammals have a different strain from birds.
  7. I agree, pro biotic are very good for stressful times
  8. He will feel the change in routine when you have a visitor so that may stress him a little. seeing his vent is clean, i wouldnt worry
  9. Is his vent clean? Its the vent getting mucky that is the sign that they are sick

i think 20kg bags are about $8 from bunnings??
  12. I agree, keep a good eye on him and hopefully is just from an extra drink in the heat.
  13. I was advised to use the nest boxes in the aviary too. I took the lids off and turned them sideways so it was completely open on one side. No hen can claim it for herself. some of my hens had some real punch ups over them too - they are now in cabinets

sand, shell grit or lime over concrete is the best. Bare concrete can become impregnated with disease, so its best to sprinkle sand under the perches as a bare minimum.
  15. Hi

Hello and welcome Hens have a tendency to squwalk when caught. Its generally a fear thing. she needs to learn to trust you. You can help by offering her millet on your hand etc to help.
  16. Sounds like she is missing their company. Birds are flock creatures and miss their companions when they are not around. Do they have to be separate? Is she new?

I am so sorry! It is such a devastating loss I hope some return
  18. treating splayed legs is quite tricky. Too tight and the circulation is cut off, too lose and they come off, too much bandage and the baby cant stand, too little bandage and it doesn't support the legs. Its really interesting that you said the mother was plucked. I have always sworn that chicks that were plucked in the nest are very likly to pluck their babies when breeding. Its a really sad thing and it must be stopped as she will damage the babies feathers to the point where they wont grow back
  19. Good luck renee I am getting my birds ready too so there will be a few of us getting a round in before the cold winter
  20. Awww What a horrible thing. I agree that animal cruelty needs to be penalised much stronger. They need better animal police and CSI's to properly investigate situations and prosecute the persons responsible. Persons who commit animal cruelty are far more likely to commit human injury and murder too That mad man, may have killed "just a little bird" but next time when he is feeling raged and wants to lash out, will it be the dog next, or perhaps even his son??
  21. So scary! hope everyone is okay and there is no damage to buildings.
  22. I have to agree too. I was faced with the same situation about 9 years ago when i found a gorgeous day old duckling wandering around our house. I had only had him a day, but the utter cuteness is hard to give up, but i handed him in to a wildlife carer (tears and all) - i love ducks Good luck and i hope you find him a good home before you get too attached.
  23. The egg turning is to stop the embryo sticking to the side. If you have parents that are able to raise the babies then they will be able to take care of the eggs too. If they have babies that have hatched and are a lot older then the fostering may not work. You will have a real challenge ahead of you. i hope it works out. Personally, I would put the eggs in a bucket of seed and take them to someone who has birds who can foster the eggs and chicks.
  24. How old are the babies?? If she is not doing her job, and the other pair are good parents and have babies around the same age as these babies, then foster the chicks.
  25. Oh i see. learn something new everyday
