Pairing Some Of My Birds.
I have started to pair some of my birds, sadly most of my best birds are either out of condition or still in quarantine, but i thought i would get the breeding ball rolling all the same, with the birds that are available at the moment. I have only 4 pairs at the moment: Pair 1. Recessive pied cock and recessive pied hen (both from Libby) Pair 2. A grey cock and a Lutino hen ( cock from renee, and hen purchased locally) J Pair 3. Jeff Lloyd light green Cock with DF spangle hen. (cock from Kaz and hen from auction) Pair 4. Cec Gearing hen with Gearing/Armstrong cock (this pair is from Kaz) I would love to hear any thoughts and view about these pairs. If you see any errors or faults that i am doubling up on I would be really interested to know about them Thanks in advance

What's This!?!
It looks like a healed wound to me and the feathers are starting to come back. I would say he was bitten or had a number of his feathers ripped out from there a few weeks back. It doesn't look serious to me.

Would You Give A Hen Another Try?
Once and plucker, always a plucker However, you could use her again if you really like the chicks she produces ( she's roxy's mum??) . Make sure you have fosters available to care for the chicks from the moment plucking starts. You could also try the glass door on the next box which helps the hen feel more vulnerable and less likely to pluck.

Spangle To Spangle Pairing
okay, fresh eyes and brain I agree the chicks don't look grey green. However, still assuming that the grey is from the other nest, leaves two little green chicks who still could have come from either nest... once we see more feather it might be more clear. Also, the chick with the plum eyes, may have been DF spangle, but was possibly a cinnamon from the other nest instead. If it was a cinnamon that died then the two green chicks are most likely the ones who are related to the DF spangle.

Spangle To Spangle Pairing
There is no way to really tell. The DF spangle is grey green in any case, so there is no way to tell which chicks come from where as both hens are Opaline (one being opaline spangle) , both fathers are grey green spangles. Cinnamon in a hen will not show anything unless the cock is cinnamon (or split) You know the hen of the other nest is split blue as they have a grey chick already... but the spangle hen could also be split blue. So my conclusion is there is know way to tell... perhaps when the chicks mature you may see features from the parents show though on the chicks. I think your DF spangle pair are much nicer than the other pair, so should (in theory) have a nicer looking chick than the other two in the nest... Sorry i wasnt much help

4 Month Old Hen Laid An Egg Again A Week After I Took Her Brother Out
Mating is not proof of gender. Budgies are not fussy who they mate with, male or female. Your young hen is laying eggs for one of two reasons. 1) she has somewhere that she feels comfortable enough to nest in. 2) she has a reproductive issue and needs to see an avian vet.

ivermectin in Canada
Dont use Detol, too many fumes to put on the face. Olive oil, paraffin oil, Vaseline etc can all be used to smother the mites. Apply carefully to affected ares once a day for 5 days, careful not to get any in the eyes, beak, nostrils and feathers. Photos???

Statue
I agree with Maesie, A photo would really help. If he is sitting on the bottom and not moving and not eating than i would say he is sick. He may be sick from an illness of sick from not eating (caused by stress) You may need to take him to an avian vet.

i agree with neville, She also needs a cage with a grill on the bottom so there is no where to "nest". also give her seed in a small dish that she cant sit in. Change her entire location and make her feel a bit uncomfortable so she cant settle anywhere and lay. This needs to be broken before it turns into a major egg laying issue. Make sure she has plenty of vitamins, protein and calcium in her diet, as while she is laying, her young body is being sapped of all its nutrients.

Hens In The Aviary Fighting
I agree, you need more males. i always have more cocks than hens and it keeps the peace in the aviaries. Hens always compete for mates, and if there is not much choice then there is going to be fights. WOOP! deb gets to go shopping

ivermectin in Canada
Sofia, could you please post a picture of your budgie with the scaly face. I would err on the side of caution with anything injectable. Its very easy to overdose using injection and should only be done by an avian vet.
