  1. Oh so exciting. I cant wait to see your photos
  2. I rate others bloodlines highly. For example, If i was to do a first pairing of a Gearing bird and an Armstrong bird, i would say its a Gearing/Armstrong that i bred. I wouldnt call it my line, not yet anyway. If i then bred those babies to other babies that i had bred from the same line, then as the generations increased i would then call it my line that originated from Gearing and Armstrong bloodlines... I agree with Daz, that a bloodline is something that is done over time and is not something that comes from one generation. I would say 3-4 line breeding generations is creating the grounding for a personal bloodline. Bloodlines and line breeding is a lot to get your head around. Luckly my husband is the one who is really into it, so i can concerntrate more on the birds while he plays with the genetics. Shannon, you really need to take baby steps. You run before you can walk and i assure you, you will fall over. Take care of your birds, learn as much as you can and practice breeding on lesser birds. when you setup is up to scratch and you have some quality chicks comeing out from your pairs, then consider purchasing better birds to add to your developing bloodlines.
  3. Sounds like one of his airsacs inflating wrongly. I would say airsac mite

  10. Stunning birds!!!! I am so in love with your grey green cock bird.... Love your clean floors too.
  11. a slight blue tinge to a light green bird i believe is normal. i dont see any blue feathers under the tail so this is why i think she is green. most YF birds show at least a little blue under the tail
  12. He is looking very nice now - well done Its always best to post current photos to stop misunderstandings
  13. She looks like a light green spangle to me.
  14. How about we see another photo of him that is taken today, that way this dispute will be cleared up one way or another
  15. Very sweet Its so cute when they love it so much that they get drenched, then get this look of "ohhh i think i went too far"
  16. I think the birds need training in a cabinet. When i put my first cabinet pairs down i ran into all sorts of issues and complications. But the second round was a lot better as the birds had settled into the cabinets. This time around i have put a few birds into their pairs and i can see the ones that have been in a cabinet before as they get straight into breeding mode, where the first timers spend the first week or so trying to escape and stressing. as for your hen, i would take away the box for a few days, then give it back. this might give her the hint. If she continues to be aggressive, then remove her from the cabinet as hens can kill males if they are really agitated
  17. Hen who's just about to lose her crusty cere (notice its raised and very dark) Hen who's brown crsty part of the cere has freshly fallen off. notice there is still a little in the middle Hen out of condition, possibly in the early stages of starting to colour up Hen coming back into condition (great time to put in cabinet) Perfect condition for breeding (she is going into a cabinet tomorrow ) Good condition too - here cere is dark, but its still nice and smooth perfect condition on this hen too I think thats covered them...
  18. The crusty brown part of the cere will fall off and leave to revele the whitish blue colour. when a hen is losing condition she does not go tan. Tan is going back into condition... Will try get photos as i have hens in all conditions at the moment
  19. mmmmm fresh carrots straight from the ground!! Yummy!!!!
  20. I agree. and a very cute one at that
  21. I have been getting rusty with genders.. here are my guesses cock cock Hen Hen Hen i think Hen
  22. Oh WOW!! that is awesome news!! cant wait for the pics
  23. I also have a kindy cage. I give millet in the nest and i move babies out of the cabinet as soon as they are eating well on their own (4-5 weeks). I have had to crop feed a few who stop eating, but otherwise it works well and helps prevent the aggression that can come from a hen wanting to start a second round. Second round babies stay with the parents a bit longer, i remove the box around 4 weeks instead, and remove the babies at about 5-6 weeks.
  24. hehe yes, its very interesting - and that's why the big one in the corner of my bedroom is allowed to stay there - He also eats any mozzies that try and eat me - A happy duo i say :hap: Huh?? What are you doing...
