Some Just Dont Get It
 love the last one! There are some half wits out there I really feel for their poor birds being the victims of stupidity

Dirty Parents
clean off any solid dried food from the beak, cere and feathers. Dont worry about washing feathers etc, just take off the solid food mess. Considering that messy feeders are more likely to get food caught in the tops of the babies beaks, be sure to check inside each chicks beak twice daily.

Hen Egg Laying Problem Again
I agree with Kaz, Try her in a wire cage with a wire grill in the bottom and i think that should be sufficient to stop her egg laying.

Hen Egg Laying Problem Again
I agree that she is still laying because she must think there is somewhere to nest. If she is dropping them off the perch then she may have a health issue which will make her become a chronic egg layer. Make sure she is getting the very best diet until this egg laying is fixed as its sapping essential nutrients from her growing body.

For Any Members Here Who Breed Mice?
baby wild mice - yuk! kill them and if you really want some mice, get them from the pet shop. Wild mice are riddled with disease, if one bites you, you could get sick.... I know it sucks but wild mice have no place in suburbia or in the wild. they dirty our food, kill our birds and endanger our native wildlife. :glare:

My First Show Pair
I normally increase calcium, vitimins, fresh food and excersise etc etc etc before breeding, and with them i didnt do any of that so i am blaming that for the splayed legs. It could have been the hen sitting too tight too... but i think it was all a bit rushed.

My First Show Pair
Thanks GB, he is stunning. he is the first show budgie that i got. He is an 04 ring and very fertile and an awesome dad The hen is lovely too. Sadly these two were rushed into breeding (wont do that again :raincloud: ) and their only chick had such servely splayed legs that she couldn't even shuffle around the bottom of the cage... she had to be euthinased Pop, the cock is retired as he is a lot smaller than most of my show birds ( ) and the hen is prepping for breeding as she has an amazing lutino cock bird to go with

Perch Size
19mm will be best. 12mm is quite narrow and many birds cant grip it properly to mate.
-
Perch Size
In flights, about 12mm... and up to log sized. In cabinets i like to use one 16mm and one of the next size up (dont remember what size that is) Show cages are 12mm soon to be changed to 16mm

Purchasing A 'winter' Budgie!
I agree that the month of the baby hatching doesn't affect the bird. Aim for a strong and solid baby from a breeder. Never buy the little scrawny one because its cute as they are the ones that are likely to get issues.

How Do I Keep My Baby Budgie Warm At Night.
I agree with Daz, If the mother passed anything on to the chick it would have perished by now, including the dad. I think it would be okay to foster.

Ants
Fly spray is bad. I would use an ant killer, outside, around the perimeter of your bird room.

Medications
A very good breeder and friend of ours says that he uses 2 medications. Observation and heat. Observe the birds, and any that are looking sick, get them in the hospital cage with heat. Most birds recover quickly when given heat early enough in the illness. The key is to know your birds individually and pick up the signs of illness when it first shows. even very subtle changes such as napping when the others are playing or having 2 feet down rather than one etc.
