haha, thanks Jimmy. Its the blue board and bricks that makes it look so slap dash at the moment. the birds dont care that they are not in custom made cage stands, but i care so its not too far down in the list of things to do  The birds are happy. Some pairs that were totally disinterested in breeding before, are now showing interest

Our summer plans are to erect 3 shade sails over the entire area, covering the flights and the shed. I am also installing 40mm polystyrene sheets to the walls and ceiling. And finally, as we live on a hill, we are taking full advantage of the breeze, by making sure the windows are facing the right direction for maximum cross ventilation. Oh, and we will probably invest in a portable evaporate A/C for those unexpected heat waves, however i am hoping not to be breeding in the middle of the really hot summer.

yes, the other seeds are fine. It is not the best for breeding birds however as the canary seed ratio is too low. You want at least 1/3 to 1/2 canary seed for breeding budgies. Other parts white millet and jap millet.

Canary mix. the black seeds are canola and the budgies wont eat them.

  6. you will probably find that the chick is YF, but its so light you can barely see it. YF always moults in darker than the YF in nest feather. just saw your photos... It looks bizarre, but i still think the yellow must be there, but VERY pale. The new yellow coming though is very light so he must be a very light YF.

That is so cool nubbly5!!! thanks so much for an awesome explanation!!!!!
  8. From your signature... it looks like the front one will be a spangle. ... got more pics for us Jimmy?
  9. poopy bottoms is common in newly homed birds. Its normally caused by not eating. The poo will be runny a green if its caused by lack of food and will return to normal with in 12 hours of eating well. If they are eating and still have the yucky poo, then there is possibly something more sinister going on. Sparks is like redbull for budgies. Well its more like gateraide, as its full of electrolytes etc, but it perks them up and helps them deal with stress. I use pure raspberry cordial with mine What you have in your first aid kit depends on how far you want to go. it can get quite costly and some stuff will expire without even being used. Budgie first aid kit should include: Sulfa meds (for diarrhea and coccidiosis) Calcivet (calcium ) Probiotic ( general well being) Broad spectrum antibiotic (for emergency bacterial infection - still need to take them to the vet though as it might be the wrong medicine, but it should give you time to get them there) Crop needle (ask your vet to show you how to use it) There are more too, but the diseases they treat are getting quite serious and you would be better off going to the vet as you could be wasting money on medications you may never use.
  10. When you get birds with messy bottoms, it is vital that you pull all the soiled feathers out. that way any future poop wont stick again too. If she starts to look fluffed, put a lamp (25 - 40 watts ) on her. Your best bet would be to take her to the vet and have her tested for all the nasties that they can carry.

what a bummer thanks for letting us know. If you happen to upload the photos again, (provided the name and album name is the same) then the photos should reappear. Staff can also help you relink and broken images
  12. Some one is keen In one of the pics you can see a guy sleeping in there The cabinets are very small, i bet all the birds are bred for the pet trade

  16. Yes, that is the purpose of this topic. And we have adopted a number of members from that site too and taken them under our wing.
  17. I agree with Kaz, we are here to educate and yes, we do take the micky out of another site who's advice is appalling and have the blind leading the blinder. We would never degrade or put down even the most simple of questions from any of our members here.

remember to give double strength pro biotic for 5 days after all medications. I hope you find out what the problem is and are able to get it fixed up with out too much fuss.

mice can get through 1.2cm... mine is 1cm and i have seen them queeze though that too. Your wire is the cause of your mouse problem is for sure. I now use 0.5cm by 0.5cm wire mesh which is mouse proof
  21. **Liv** replied to deb's post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Deb, I am so sorry With your mouse issue... i would say its caused from your wire. mice can walk right though that type of wire. Perhaps put tin 2 -3 feet up all the sides of your aviary and i'd like to see the little buggers try get in then. You set up is awesome!

  23. I agree with Kaz. It Looks like it could be something very serious. If its what it looks like, you could catch it too if you are not careful. VET tomorrow morning!!!!!!
