  1. I agree with Kaz, you need to get emergency food into him now, and get him under a warm light. Retire him from breeding. The chicks will do fine with just the hen (provided she is fit)
  2. :D So 007 of you
  3. I am so sorry JB What a horrible thing - I know how much you love your birds - this is such a disaster I hope the chicks pull though for you and you can get something out of this terrible loss
  4. Those birds were from Sue Adams. She has really good birds too, She and Steve compete against each other in the nationals
  5. Salt is only bad when introduced in processed foods like canned veg etc. This is because they contain a lot of salt, The salt bush is 21% protein too. The birds got peppermint gum, salt bush and another gum today - their favorite is the peppermint gum, but the salt bush got a good munching too
  6. hehe yes JB it is Steve who showed us the secret growing crop of it :grouphug:

My birds just started attacking the screen :grouphug: YUM YUM YUM they say!!!! nice work Pearce! you will have some very happy birds
  8. Then you want to add some opaline or even opaline spangle in with the yellow faced blue dominant pied
  9. I use this method too. While my birds are on medication, I remove all drinking water overnight (everynight) and when you provide the drinking water with medications in it in the morning, they drink it straight up. I do this too. Its much more effective. and you get to see them take a drink too which is comforting
  10. Hello and welcome It is a lovely idea to take Zeke camping I agree it should be fine. Just make sure he is eating well before you go. New birds are known to not eat when under the stress of their new home. I would say if you see any signs of stress before you leave, that it would be best to keep him home rather than changing his environment again. If he hasn't missed a beat and is coping with the move, then go for it
  11. I agree that you have a YF2 Dominant pied cock who is 3-5 months old. Your normal blue is around 8 weeks or so old. To me it is possible its a hen, but it could also be a cock. a clear photo of the cere front on in natural light will help us tell for sure.
  12. Always great to put a face to the name
  13. I use it too. Always works well - it has a wetting agent in it (which is good) and really wets them to the bone so make sure you do it on a hot day or are prepared to keep the birds under a heat light until completely dry.
  14. They just have to wait until after the medication has finished as even a cuttle bone (calcium) will interfere with the meds.
  15. 1) Removing him is fine 2) I dont know... He sounds pretty agitated and he may have "nesting issues" - what is his history? is he a show budgie? 3) If he has mated with the hen, then he doesnt have to be present any more for the hen to lay fertile eggs. 4) i have experience with hens doing this, not cocks... you sure its the cock and not the hen who did it??
  16. Avicycline (or any other water medication) is noneffective when not the only source of water . Vegies and plant material are too moist and the birds can avoid the medication by getting their moisture from the food.

WOW!! that's a lot of feathers!!!!!
  18. They YF grey boy is a VERY nice bird. I would be happy to have him in my aviary What are the ring colours of these guys???
  19. It was a truly amazing sight!! Just like seeing a chick hatch its was one of those rare moments when you are in the right place at the right time
  20. My tame cockatiel is always rading my dogs dry food bowl... now i know why Might give it a shot with the budgies
  21. It's always best to get them when they are not moulting as it reduces the overall stress. But, I have bought budgies when they are moulting, be it a first moult or a seasonal moult - you just got to keep a close eye on them to make sure they are not getting overly stressed.
  22. If they haven't had meat before, mix it in with their normal greens otherwise they may not see it as edible the first few times. never leave meat with the birds for longer than 2 hours, and that meat must be freshly cooked (within 24 hours) .

Chicken is to budgie as human is to cow. Birds are a variety of animal like mammals. Cannibalism is only when budgie eats budgie or human eats human
  24. I wouldnt give raw meat.... I have always given cooked
  25. No, it was better to just buy wire cages than try to tamper with this one. I use this one as a nappy cage as its a great size for the chicks
