Here is my pair. The hen has never had more than a light tan to her cere, but it still shows the roughness of a hens cere. The cock looks to me like the one you have.

If you plan to breed in there, then 2 budgies only. If you just want them to live in there, then i would say 6 -8 would be happy

This photo looks like a bit like a cock. the cere is too smooth and looks a bit opaque to be a hen. I have a lutino pair with very similar ceres, ( i know yours is lacewing ) and i will try and get photos soon. Your other photos look like hen though I think you need some one to look at the cere in person to be able to really tell. Has'nt MB been able to tell???

Yes, your budgies can go a second round if they are in good condition (as you say they are) Its three rounds that is a big NO NO.

I put their food dishes in the dish washer Clean water drinkers with hot water and let dry in sun. I clean seed dishes only when they get dirty, normally clean them with hot soapy water. You can use anything that is dish safe, as long as its rinsed well :lightbulb:

I think its something along the lines of the secondary flight feathers turning upwards.... A judge mentioned a bird with shark fins a few weeks back at a show, but i forgot to go have a look at it after judging.

I have heard of these dreaded Shark Fin feathers in the flights, that are a major fault and can also breed quickly into your birds... But i don't really know what they are and what they look like. Can anyone please explain what shark fins are, or even better, post a photo of some birds with shark fins. :lightbulb:

Hi there is great to have you here I am going to shoot some questions at you so we can help with your answers :lightbulb: How old are the pair?? you say they are young, how young?? Do they have a nest box? is the hen nesting?? Have you got any photos of the pair and their setup we can see?

have you got a photo of her?? she might be having a bad moult or have lice issues. plucking in budgies is not all that common, especially when they are not alone.

I have a very funny image in my head of the ladder splitting in half and budgies going everywhere Mine get night frights at times (due to my overly spooky tiels who jump at shadows) and i have lights that i turn on for about 30 mins to help them settle back down to sleep.

I have to agree with Dave, Water and budgies dont mix. We spend so much time making sure the aviary floors stay dry as water creates desease. Also the finches cant go with the budgies. Budgies can take a finch leg off in one nip. Budgie seed goes sour in water too. Your turtle would get sick from foul water pretty quick. Are you able to build the aviary anywhere else?

Hens normally dont incubate their eggs until their 3rd egg is laid. Eggs remain viable for a good week incubated. Well done for getting her to the vet.Increase her calcium by giving avical in the water and improve her diet with lots of fresh veggies (carrots, brocolo, corn, peas, silver beat, beetroot etc) . if she gets egg bound again she needs retirement.

ewww!! that is the problem with bait, they die where ever they want. I hate it when they die in the walls of the house... it stinks out a room for ages!!

I have noticed a few mice starting to venture into my yard. and I want to get rid of them before they pose a threat. I don't like using poison outside because of wild animals, birds, my pet dog and the kids could all be effected by it if the mice spread it around or decide to die on the doorstep Anyway... While concreting the bird room i remembered the remedy of using cement and sugar as a bait for mice.... well i have also heard that this is not very effective as the rodents may not eat enough of it to block up their system, and if they do eat enough wild animals who eat the dead mice could still be affected by the concrete. so i had an idea. Knowing that concrete is dehydrating i used 1 part concrete mix to 5 parts sugar. (this is much weaker than the kill recipe) and wont kill the mice, but will make them VERY VERY thirsty. Then i kindly put a half full bucket of water in their run path and put bricks up the outside of the bucket so they can climb up. They are so thirsty they jump in and drown - Then you dig a little hole next to a bush, water the plant with the water out of the bucket, then cover the dead mouse in the hole with dirt. Water and fertiliser for the plant. no poisons... hmmmm seems pretty eco friendly to me 2 dead mice in 2 days!! I am happy with this method so far!!
