Needs to be a much bigger photo. that one comes up really small and seeing the cere is impossible. The cere is the soft coloured part around the nose.
  5. They both look like hens to me. Green is a hen for sure, but white could be a cock... but looks more like a hen in those pics.
  6. SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!!! I hope he lets you take a video as this sounds priceless :bluebudgie: He sounds very intelligent :bliss:
  7. I see.. they may or may not eat it. Perhaps find some one with a canary and give it to them?? There looks to be lots of added colorings etc in the pellets which are not the best for budgies anyway.

It's too hard to tell at the moment... flashes wash out the colour of the cere and the dark room also alters the colour. Natural light is best. Look forward to being able to help :bluebudgie:

Hey Mikey... we need a photo that shows the face front on to tell the gender Like this one And its best in natural light and without the flash. Look forward to giving you some answers :bluebudgie:
  12. Canary seed mix is not toxic to budgies and i have made the same mistake as you before. Seeing as you have had the seed for a while, make sure the seed is still very fresh and clean and hasn't been contaminated with any moisture or moths, mice etc. If you mix it with your regular food, make sure the mix is less than 50% as there will be some seeds in there that the budgies wont eat.

Hello and welcome! You are definitely in the right place to get all the information you need Percy sounds gorgeous and sounds quite normal for a new bird. It would be great if you can post a photo of him too
  17. The chicks are beginning to fledge - here is what they are like now Chick 1) Normal grey green cock bird, split recessive pied Chick 1) YF grey cock ( i think), split oplaine and cinnamon. who enjoys carrots Chick 2) YF Cinnamon Grey opaline hen, who also enjoys carrots Chick 3) YF Double Factor Spangle hen, masking oplaine cinnamon. Sadly this chick is sick. it has been for quite some time. it has issues with its eyes. I have been to the vet with her twice already , and they suspect psittacosis Hopfully she will respond to the doxy. None of the other birds (including her siblings) are showing symptoms. Chick 1) Opaline spangle Chick 2) Opaline Cinnamon Spangle Chick 3 ) DF spangle Chick 4) DF spangle Chick 5) DF spangle

mine have never had an issue with sand. its better for them than living on hard surface.

Hello and welcome! I am from Adelaide too... so are quite a few other members now There were some bush budgies for sale at the last NEBS club Auction last week... i forget who was breeding them, but i remember them telling people not to have a bidding war over the birds as he had lots. They sold for $20 a pair
  20. I remove the water in the aviary each night, and in morning when i replace it, they are all sitting around waiting to drink. I think they drink a lot more than we realise, and i have noticed that some budgies are thirstier than others too - even in the cold months. They need fresh clean water EVERY DAY
  21. Stunning babies!!!! They are going to look amazing when they mature!

Lime is used under sand to help reduce bacteria growth on the floor. Use a thick layer (1 - 2 cm's) and compact it down as much as you can. Lime is also calcium so its not toxic to the birds. Sand should be at least an inch thick over the lime. The sand should have the mess taken off the surface once a week and should be topped up as needed.
