  1. A variegated dominant Pied Spangle (unless she has no iris rings coming). Wouldn't she be shown in the pied category???
  2. Yes carriers are the big issue as they look healthy all through quarantine. Stress of moving is often enough to bring out illness. some breeders quarantine birds while breeding as the stress really knocks the carriers around, however i feel there is too much of a risk with contaminating the healthy flock.
  3. beautiful boy
  4. I also keep all quarantine birds in a separate shed where possible. I am no saint and have had times when quarantine has had to be done closer to the other birds, however i always tend to quarantine birds last and am cautious of my clothes and shoes etc. I don't normally quarantine a single bird by its self. If they are going to be alone i will give them a friend from my flock. This helps in two ways as it reduces stress as they are not alone and this helps me see any diseases that may be hidden and gives me better confidence in the health of the bird. Most of the time i get multiple birds from a breeder in one go so the use of a companion bird from my flock is not necessary. I do not treat quarantine birds for potential infectious diseases if they are not showing signs of sickness or of being a carrier of a disease. Quarantine birds are watched closely for health issues and any that crop up are diagnosed and treated promptly. All quarantine birds are treated for mites, lice and worms on the first day of quarantine.
  5. I am so sorry to hear the diagnosis is not good.
  6. An awesome shot!!! Congratulations!
  7. What a horrible time . Biggest hugs from me and i really hope it all gets better from here.

  10. You have already been given great advice so just wanted to say... Welcome :hi:
  11. Yes, you can get twins from a double yolker. It is not very common though as the doubles are often infertile. Our hens produced a few last season, but not one was fertile. Twins would be really cool.. Kaz had twin budgies and they both survived too :hi:
  12. Yes, Renee is rather particular that way- she'll raise one maybe two chicks but draws the line at too much hard work! She raised 3 happy healthy chicks this round so hopfully she will do another three.. will let her tell me how many she is happy with. The fosters are great parents who are also on eggs, so will be ready and waiting to take on some of the work load. I have noticed she really loves pellets, so i give her pellets in the nest box to help her out
  13. WOW!! What an egg. have you candled it to see if it is a double??? It's so beautifully formed. i bet the hen needed stitches after passing that
  14. This pair are on their second round and are sitting on 6 (out of 7) fertile eggs As she tends to only raise a few babies at a time, i have a great foster lined up to take half the clutch if needed.
  15. Feather dusters are adorable freaks of nature. I have seen them in the flesh (or is that feather lol ) and they are so soft and dopey. It's a shame they don't live long as they really are amazing.
  16. Awesome pairs!! This will be very exciting to follow.
  17. About time i updated on the babies... I dont have photos of them all, but all but three are in the kindy cage now The last three are very close to going in. Here are some shots of babies in the kindy cage This is the one who was on Doxy for suspected psittacosis. It was not Psittacosis as her eyes didn't stop watering while on the antibiotic. She had an allergic reaction to something in the breeding cabinet. Now that she is in the kindy cage, her eyes are dry and she is doing great Round two is well under way with 3 hens laying their second clutch. we were going to shut down breeding over winter, but have since decided to keep it going. We will be pairing more birds in the next few days

Sunny's cere is normal. personally i think he is taking a bit longer to reach breeding maturity. His cere to me is one of a cock that is not in ideal breeding condition.

  22. Sounds like an awesome deal!!!
  23. Welcome back I hope you enjoy picking out your budgie. How are you going with cages etc? What type do you have in mind?
  24. awesome chicks!! they are going to be little (i mean BIG) rippers!!!
  25. The poor little guy. Could be a dislocated hip too. Perhaps a vet visit and an x-ray to see if anything can be done. sometimes these things can be corrected but he is to old to be treated with a splint. A vet may be able to correct it or even amputate the lower part of the leg. Budgies do fine with one and a half legs.
