I have a breeding pair that goes through an entire drinker of water every single day. The bedding in the nest box is continually damp and i have to keep changing it. Its not smelly at all, i am just wondering if the hen is drinking the water and regurgitating it in the nest to increase humidity???? I have considered reducing the amount of water i supply this pair, but worry of depriving the chicks if she still wets the nest first??? The chicks are all doing great. its the nest box i am worried about... as the pine concave is swelling and now wont come out for cleaning any more

I agree. Stick with it. line breeding is fine when done right. you will need to keep records and maybe get some split rings so you know which bird is from what family etc. Good luck

I am so sorry Green poos can be psittacosis and it has an incubation period of 10 days and death is quick... i would get your reaming birds to the vet and tested for everything under the sun.

I am very sorry The avian vet should be able to determine cause of death with an autopsy.

Might be a good idea to remove her mirror... this might be the reason she is laying eggs because she thinks she has the best looking mate in town (her reflection ) Mirrors are not recommended toys for budgies.

Love it!! There are so many people with budgies i wouldn't be surprised if half the population of australia has owned at least one at some point in their life.

Budgies have major specific eye problems.... my first fear would be psittacosis... isolate her, lock down your aviary with strict quarantine and get her to the vet.

It is very sad when this happens. You dont want to be buying the birds out of sympathy either. this is what pet shops often want. "aww the poor little thing, i will give it a better life at home" = sale and $$$ for the pet shop. You did the right thing. If everyone walked away then pet shops would get the hint that people want top quality and healthy pets... not sick rejects. This is why buying direct from the breeder is best.
