  1. Yes, now is a very good time to see a vet. When a bird shows sick, it means they are really very sick. birds hide their symptoms very well until they are unable to hide them any more. I hope she pulls through for you.

  3. Lucky thing!!! Enjoy and I look forward to lots of awesome photos
  4. Budgies mostly poop clear water like urates when stressed. He could be stressed by any of these things: diet, environment, illness and parasites. A vet visit might be a good idea and they can examine the poop under a microscope and help rule out illness and parasites.
  5. Hello and welcome. Cute videos

It gets cold, but with the door closed and the windows closed at night it is surprising that it is a good 5- 10 degrees warmer than outside. All I can say is that the birds are breeding and chicks are being born (hatched) so it is working. we have had frost and its been down to 1.7 outside but all is well. Well i suppose that is the main thing that they are still breeding. Will you at some stage insulate to make everything a little more comfortable? We plan to use polystyrene sheeting to insulate in the future.
  12. I am so sorry I hope you get some answers soon.
  13. beautiful birds GB
  14. They are a little wet and light in colour. however you say your hens are laying eggs. The laying of eggs can cause droppings such as these. There are some lovely normal looking droppings there too so, i would suspect that these droppings are only coming from one bird. It would be more wide spread if it were food contamination. keep a close eye out for any birds showing illness or stress. Food around the beak, staining in the feathers above the cere, droppings sticking to feathers around the vent, fluffed or sleepy appearance etc. Any of these are signs that something is wrong.
  15. It could be the diet change. Some seed that hasn't been stored properly can have mould and bacteria contamination which make the birds sick. Also wet aviary floors make birds very sick. Does the poo smell rancid? They could have, what we call, egg poo. These are large droppings that are of normal consistency and smell that come 2 days before an egg is laid. photos would help

The boxes that are smaller have different sized birds in them. I have a pair that is very showy, but very small, so they only have a pet box. The other small box contains a blended pet type foster pair  You can really see the size difference between the boxes used to breed pet budgies, and the ones used to breed exhibition budgies
  17. Thanks for your concern Macka. I agree it is wrong to keep birds alive who are suffering. These little guys are not suffering. They are living inside in the warmth, with all the food and supplements they need. They are on top of their feather growth as they are plump and strong. They are lively and love attention from people - they chirp happily when i pick them up to gave them a cuddle, and they love having their long head feathers scratched.  I am not anti-euthanasia, and when they loose the will to live, its visible in their eyes. I know what to do.
  18. The two FD brothers are doing well. They are nice and weighty, and the little rascals love attention. They are all but identical, except i can tell the subtile differences between them. Oh, and Shaggy has his wings clipped... and they both have breeders rings on hehe They both need a good bath.. i have tried puting a dish in for them and they get soaked, but then cant get dry... how to bathe a FD??? Shaggy Cirrus They are only 7 weeks old... Quilla passed at 6 weeks of age.

Welcome! You have an awesome setup!!!
  20. If you say there is something in his ear that is moving, i would suspect ear lice or even a worm... i have pulled a worm for the third eye lid of a bird before. I would treat him with ivermectin to the back of the neck and a drop of moxidictin (or equivalent wormer) to the beak, The fits could be from the horrible feeling of something being in the ear

The bird room is almost done... We have been fiddling with the layout and trying to find which we like the best. At one stage we had the 12 cabinets all stacked up across the flight... we couldn't see the birds in the flight, and i also didn't like all the mess being able to fall into the flight. if there was an outbreak of something it would spread REALLY fast! so this layout was no good... So the other day i set to it, and moved them all around, plus added another 6 cages after i built another 6 boxes :thankyou: this is how it looks now and i am finally happy with the layout I am not planning on the pair in the black cage staying there. They paired in the aviary and really needed a room. I have one last chick to fledge and then they can go into that cabinet and I can have my little table back - Yay! The sun beams in an hits both banks of cabinets at different times of the day, where before no direct sunlight hit them. I also use a mirror to direct the sunlight into the flight. All our babies from this season so far
