I know what you mean. That was Daz's old breeding room. Its pretty easy to make a suspended flight, and its great for letting the birds get natural sun light and rain. I dont believe they come pre made, but any handy person should be able to knock one up. We had planned to do one, but have since changed the layout of our shed and the flight now goes along the fence line.

Yes, MySixBabies is right, fruit and veg is just as good. I am mainly using weeds and grasses at the moment as they are readily available to me at the moment. But the rest of the year they get silver beet, beetroot, carrot, corn, snow peas, broccoli etc
  3. The leg will swell and the ring will constrict the bloodflow. Use some cutters to remove the ring now as its a lot harder when the leg has swollen around the ring. Cut the ring in half so it comes away in 2 half circles. Its made with aluminum so can be cut with small sharp wire cutters or proper ring cutters. Personally i would get her to a breeder who has done it before and get them to show you. If you slip you will cut the chicks leg badly... The angle of the leg in that picture doesnt look good. the knee looks out, possibly even the hip. The fact she cant move the leg says she is in a lot of pain.... take her to the vet and get some pain medication

Sorry, its not milk thistle... i dont know my weeds very well hehe. Its a Sow thistle that grows VERY well in my garden... http://www.dgsgardening.btinternet.co.uk/s...stle_smooth.htm The birds go mad for them. Because my garden is organic i pull the thistles up roots and all, and leave the dirt on them  Information per 100g of Sow Thistle Protein 1.2 g. Fat 0.3 g. Carbohydrate 2.4g. Vitamin A 35 mg. Riboflavin 5 mg. Thiamin 1.5 mg. Niacin 5 mg. Calcium 1500mg Phosphorous 500mg. Iron 45.6 mg
  5. OUCH! I have had that happen too.. not to that degree, but have had birds get hung by the ring. Not nice and the leg looks bad to me Shannon. I would get it to the vet as there may be dislocation or breaks that need tending to. Your cock bird is out of condition... i am not sure what else you are asking about with him??

The ones up higher, breed better in my opinion. I always put my best birds up the top and rank them down to the bottom levels. My lowest cabinet is only 2-3 inches from the floor, but they are breeding just fine down there too. The main thing is light and ventilation. It can get quite dark and dusty for the ones down the bottom row.

A plant its self is a bit tricky as the budgie will destroy it pretty quick. You would be better getting fresh branches from eucalypti trees, and bottle brush etc. They also love native grasses and milk thistles etc.
  8. They are 9.5 weeks old today.

Great looking cage. Ideal for one to two budgies  I agree about the perches going from front to back. Gritt paper is a waste of money as its bad for them. Newspaper is ideal and its up to you if you want to put it in the trey or on the wire. i personally put it on the wire
  10. Time for an update. The two are doing well. It is a battle to keep them clean. One day Shaggy decided to take a bath in his water dish, then while soaking wet, walked though the egg food, then proceeded to the seed dish for a nap. The little rascal looked like a chicken schnitzel. I had to give him (and Cirrus) a bath in warm water with sorbolene baby wash. they actually enjoyed the bath. The water was pretty much black after each had their wash. They seem to accumulate and hold onto a lot of dirt, and dust in their feathers. It was quite a relief for them to have a wash and i will do it more often. They don't look so huge now After their bath they got a blow wave with the hair dryer (on cool setting) and we now have two puff balls hehe  Just to show their size next to my cockatiel Tealie

22 is a lot of cabinets. I only have 16 and it keeps me pretty busy. You will gradually expand cabinet numbers upwards as you change your layout and breeding setups

Hens can be quite nasty, and some are worse than others. what size is their cage? Do you have any photos of the birds and your set up?? You and your wife have done a lovely thing to get these two lost birds back to health
  20. He should be just fine. His feathers will be fully grown back in about 8 weeks
