  1. I give my breeders a variety of different veggies, however i have noticed a consisitant selection of favorites. Silver beet, carrot and corn. Depending on how you prepare the food you can disguise other veggies in amongst their favorites etc...
  2. thats an awesome service your vet has Splat!

  6. I am really sorry
  7. worms could be possible... but i wouldn't worm a bird looking so sick... unless you know 100% its worms. Do you have a microscope? 44 grams means nothing to me as each birds recommended weight is different... how does the bird feeeel... light, normal or heavy??
  8. When a bird gets so sick it will let you handle it, i am afraid its near death :laughter: Without knowing what is causing the sickness there is not a lot you can do in reality. The calcium is good. Lots of heat... make the hosipital cage temp rise to about 40oC How is the birds weight??
  9. Very informative
  10. Hello and welcome If you want more birds, I would get a second aviary. Use the breeding aviary only for breeding pairs and any birds that are not breeding and young birds unde 12 months old can live in the second aviary (with no nest boxes)

Budgies dont need regular baths, they dont get real dirty and they have special oils they put though their feathers to repel dirt and water. I give mine a bunch of wet greens as food, and the ones that want a bath go nuts for it - its their favorite method of bathing.

Hope she heals well and will breed well for you next time.
  13. Swine are closely related to humans which is probably why humans are able to catch it. However there are some viruses that can be spread from humans to birds... best to always minimise contact with your bird when you are sick and always wash hands before tending to them.

The bub looks pretty strong so you must have caught it in time. Make sure the crop is completely empty before you feed again otherwise the chick will get sour crop and die. Make sure the formular is not too hot otherwise the chick will get crop burn and die. 35 Degrees Celsius is the feeding temperature. The chick looks like its been plucked as its missing down feathers and possibly the regular feather too. I am not highly experienced with hand rearing, but with the bit i have done it is vital to make sure the crop is completely empty before feeding and you don't burn it with over heated food. Oh, and make sure the food is fresh every feed and only use clean utensils. I really hope she makes it (she looks like a hen in that picture)

if its just the one egg, it is normal for the hen not to sit on it. Hens normally start to incubate after they lay 3 eggs. Eggs hatch 18-21 days after laying depending on when incubation started.
  21. the two oldest chicks are showing yellow pins on the head, and i am sure the youngest will too i was disappointed when the yellow didn't show in the photos, but in person its very clear and i am sure the yellow will show in a few days on camera too

  24. Hello and welcome. It's great having you here
  25. That's very interesting and informative Dean, thank you If the first two are not spangles than i will be very interested to see what they develop into (normals i guess) Three chicks that i believe are DF spangle all have plum eyes. Weather this is because they are masking cinnamon or because its the DF gene causing the plum eyes, i don't know. It's really interesting about opaline chicks having white down... i didnt know that. The father of the other spangle clutch is an opaline spangle so all hens are expected to be opaline spangles, however i never considered that the hen could be a DF spangle masking opaline too. I really enjoy watching to see what chicks turn into, It's like really slowly unwrapping presents
