  1. We are thinking of you.... ((hugs))
  2. you meen i need to go though 10kg of cockatiel mix every week and squeeze each sunflower seed!!!! :hap: Oh boy, i have my work cut out for me now!!!!
  3. lucky birds =D remember not to buy anything that you don't like, that way it wont go to waste if they don't like it
  4. my birds can not resist spinach and brocoli!!! they go bonkers over it and will fly down and land on my hand to eat it before i can get it on the ground. Perhaps you could try some? I haven't given died fruit before? Just be careful of sulphates in dried apricots etc
  5. Lots of people grate their vegies for their birds. Personally I'm lazy (i hate cooking hehe) so i just get a carrot out of the fridge, cut it into a few bits, then get some corn and take off the outer leafy stuff, then get an apple and cut that up and remove the seeds, then get some boc choi leaves and put them on the side hehe. no grating, no fine chopping etc, i think they enjoy chewing on a crunchy carrot and sweet corn. i love their oranges faces after they have finished hehe **edit** as for the sunflower seeds. Mine have access to them 24/7 becuase i have cockatiels in the cage too. I have never had a fatty cyst in any of my birds in the last 14 years **Touches Wood** ... so i dont know????? maybe i am lucky there.
  6. each day i give them 2 or 3 of the different types vegies, so over a week they get them all - i give it to them raw and pop it in a dish. its best to give fresh foods first thing in the morning (first light), or in the evening(when they have their dinner), as if its given in the middle of the day its more likely to not get eaten and go off.
  7. Sunflower seeds - Mine love them, but only feed it to birds who have lots of exercise as they will get fat! hehe Vegies mine like - Corn on the cob, fresh or frozen (not from a can) Broccoli snow peas boc choi (not sure of spelling :yellowhead: ) Carrots (not canned) peas, fresh or frozen (not canned) spinach (not too much) Apples oranges nectarines and the list goes on and on..... No ADVACADO! (sp???)

How are you doing??? I am so sorry that you recieved poor advice when purchasing your cage. Don't feels it's you fault. I have a single canary in a cage just like that. I think there needs to be some regulations when it comes to bird cages etc. Have you been able to get another cage??? Perhaps you could make one. It's not that hard and much cheaper. Avairy wire (13mmx13mm square wire mesh), some untreated pine or metal, make a frame of atl east 90cm long X 60cm wide X 60cm long. Cover with wire etc etc.... really easy Would be great to hear how your birds are going.
  9. Do you have a picture? It could help us a lot with working out what is wrong.
  10. Birds will be birds hehe. Not sure how to stop the eggs on the floor. But If there isn't any boxes (nesting places), they wont have any babies :yellowhead: When i removed my boxes after breeding season, the females layed on the floor for a bit, then stopped.
  11. Sorry to hear your having troubles with one of your birds :yellowhead: Well done for keeping him separate, because he is contagious to the other birds. I have easily treated scaly face with Castor oil. It's non toxic and works a trick. I just put some on a cotton bud and gently dab it on the infected area (not around the eyes though). Do it twice a day for 3-7 days (depending on the infestation). The Castor oil simply suffocates the mites and they die, no poisons or medications . As for his father loss?? i am not sure - is plucking them out himself??? It could be a boredom/anxiety thing???? Or It could be more mites like Elly said. A vet trip might be in store. Good luck!
  12. personally, I feel it is better to take out the nesting boxes rather than separate the sexes.
  13. You know how to make a girl jealous!!! I will be booking my flights to WA today. Expect me there to pick them up VERY SOON (Laughing out loud)! :hap: They are gorgeous!!! :hap:
  14. The budgies on the bottom perch thought it was totally Bunkum that the birds above were deliberately aiming there poops for their heads
  15. I dont know about the seeds. When i cut fruit for the birds i am also doing it for the kids so i take out the seeds for all... "2 slices for the birds, 1 for the kids, 2 for the birds, 1 for the kids, 3 for the birds.... mmm no more fruit left. Hey Kids, Do you want to feed the birds your fruit?"
  16. LOVE your opalines!!!! VERY nice!
  17. Hi and welcome!! I agree with Elly. He might just be moulting and lost a couple extra flights in one of his wings. As to the other stuff, i am not sure, but the regurgitated/vomited seed doesn't sound good. Hopefully the others will have more of an idea. Good luck. Hope he is better soon **edit** If he is lopsided with his flight feathers he will be trying to correct his flying direction by using his tail more, and it will look off center. Just like an aroplane. Birds with 1 cut wing fly the same. It should correct when the flights grow back. do you have any photos???
  18. Kaz, They are all soooo pretty I am still in love with your YF opalines If i ever come to WA, you will hear from me

Oh they are lovely!!! I love the markings on the tops of their heads, especially on the last one, i have never seen that before. Very pretty
  20. hehe there has been some hanky-panky going on behind"dad's" back hehehe
  21. Thats an awesome branch!! looks like a native too!!!
  22. :angel1: I'm So Sorry for your loss! ((((((HUGS))))))) to you.
  23. I started a post just like this 2 days ago and it seems there are not a lot of "Old" birds out there - See "Our Senior Citizens- Pictures and stories of our older birds" in the " Budgie Pictures" section. My oldest budgie is 14 years, next is 10 years
  24. So are you saying our 1 year old budgie is 7 or 8 years old in budgie years Liv ? Hmmm. Good point. I wouldn't let a 7-8 year old girl have babies.... so maybe not 7-8 bird years to our 1.... Must be more like 25 bird years to our 1 which means that my 14 year old Whitie is 350 bird years old - (Laughing out loud)!! I dont really know how the "years" thing works. It might be done by taking the average life expectancy of humans, and deviding it by the life expectancy of the animal and you get the amount of Animal years to Human years?????
  25. TOOOOO CUTE I love their bit of chub! I bet they are enjoying all their free time
