  1. Thats a cute story, Elly. Your grandma must have taken very good care of her little bird. She didn't slip some Guinness in his drinking water each night did she?? hehe. I think their aging is very like dogs - i think it's something like 8 years to our 1. A 7 year old budgie is middle aged
  2. Thats awesome!! i love the picture of them all crammed in together - "Bombs AWAY!!" hehehehe. Makes me want to redecorate mine now
  3. sounds like lots of fun - I hope you have a fantastic weekend with your babies!!!!
  4. Henry is very handsome! I think you are right -he looks like a (non-fluffy) show type doesn't he

She is very pretty - and is growing old gracefully hehe we posted at the same time before hehe. I hope you can add Happy to the list of senor citizens
  6. We see so many gorgeous pictures of our young feathered friends. I was thinking it would be nice to share some pictures and stories of the seniors in our lives too. It would be nice to eventually get all the different stages of budgie aging for people to see. 6 years , 7 years, 8 years, and so on … Here goes..... Name: Whitie Gender: Female Age: 14 years (Jan 94) Medical History: egg binding x 2 – never had babies deformed beak and cere – from old age Still with us: Yes Story: She came into my life 14 years ago (when I was 11 years old). She is from the first clutch I ever bred, and I feel she has done very well to get this far. Whitie has a toy boy (Yellow 3 year old male) who feeds her, preens her and snuggles with her. He never leaves her side – It's very special to see.
  7. LOOOOOVVVEEEE the sleepy photos!!!! VERY CUTE

Tango is ADORABLE!!!! Your others are pretty too, but Tango has serious cute factor!!!
  9. thats an adorable story Libby. I love Agatha and the fact that she slept with the rabbits :oliveb: We all seem to have that special bird that touches our hearts =D **Congrats on your promotion!!!!** :oliveb:
  10. A great shot! love the mysterious lighting . When i take pics of my birds though wire or bars, i put the lens hard up against the cage so the bars are out of view! Most of my photos have to be taken from outside the cage, as the birds get camera shy if i take it in with me hehehe.
  11. Thank you all so much! It brings me great comfort to know thats its okay to let her be happy in her home with her toy boy, even when she is old and frail. If it wasn't for her toy boy (he's about 3 years old), i don't think she would have made it this far. Great idea Kaz, I will bring them inside when the cool weather starts. Thanks so much again guys. It's been playing on my mind for some time. You answers have given me the confidence to know what I'm not doing the wrong thing by her.
  12. Sounds like a female noise to me
  13. When I was 11 I bred my first baby budgies. I had no idea what i was doing at the time and I was over the moon at the little pink creations that had come into my avary.... 14 years on.... with lots more experience... I have one bird that i kept from that first clutch - all the others went to good homes. Her name is Whitie. She has developed a deformed beak (not caused by mites) in the last year or so, and she is getting very frail. She is very special to me and i have been dreading this question, but i feel i have to ask now. Is it time for her to go to the vet an visit all the other pretty birds in heaven? :angel1: Or is it okay for nature to take its course? She IS well. no runny poos etc. she is just old. She is fluffed most of the time (has been for months), but i feel it's only because she feels the cold more in her old age. The reason i ask is because, i worry that, catching her, taking her from her toy boy and her home to go the vet in the bright lights and funny smells, to then be "put to sleep" would be a horrible way for her to "go" I dont want to let her suffer (if she is suffering) either........ Is it okay for nature to take it's course and let her go peacefully in her home? I dont know what to do and i don't know what is morally right. Please help with any advice. She is in my other avairy where I keep the birds that I don't want mixing with the main flock incase of illness etc. I took these photos today. Whitie having a snack She has given me so much joy and I am saddened to think that she is coming to the end of her time. Whitie getting some love from her toy boy hehe He never EVER leaves her side - where she goes, he goes. The bond these two birds have is gorgeous. He feeds her all her main meals, preens her, snuggles with her..... its very sweet. Thanks liv
  14. Very Nice!! It's a great photo!!
  15. I'm so sorry I couldn't imagine being without either of my children!!!     ((((((HUGS))))))) for you and your family
  16. I'd say that she would quite enjoy an afternoon nap at her age. I have a budgie that is 14 years old (ancent for a budgie) and she sleeps about 90% of the day. she has a toy boy (2 year old male) who feeds her all her meals and preens her - It's really sweet to watch the bond they have. If her poops are not runny or green. if she is not "fluffed-up" if she is still herself. i would say she is fine. I dont know exactly how long a budgie lives for?? one of the others will know

look forward to the pictures of your new birds. they sound lovely :budgiedance: Your cockatiel with the broken wing however, he needs go to the vet ASAP, have x-rays taken and have the break set. If the break is left alone he will be in a lot of pain (even if he isn't showing it) Think of it as if you have a broken arm - it hurts like :bluebudgie: H**L until its set properly set by a doctor. Keep us posted

Thats IS an awesome branch!!! Your birds will LOVE it Perhaps you could prot it up in a bucket of sand and have it in your room for the birds to play on
  19. Welcome Shan!! You want A good budgie breeding book that's full of all the latest and greatest advice??? hehehe. You are looking at it - okay i know its not a book. No book will match the detailed advice you will get right here on this forum Ask anyquestion you want. there are very talanted breeders on here everyday answering everybodies questions. I was about your age when i started breeding too. Best of luck :glare:
  20. You have some great data there. - A lot of my right sided brain to process Would rainfal really need to be taken into account when your breeding in captivity?? Assuming that: green = perfect: Red = too hot/too high: blue = too cold/ to low. It looks to me that May gave the best breeding conditions last year. Followed closely by April, October and November. ....... :glare:
  21. i have 20-25 birds and i go though about 10kg of TRILL seed every fortnight. The waste is very frustrating. I put my feeders on the ground then sit them in a large potplant dish. This helps keep some spillage off the floor, but they still throw it everywhere. :glare: I'm over it though - budgies ARE messssssy
  22. Sounds like you are doing great :(Laughing out loud): It's only early days and the fact that he/she not scared of you means that it is just a matter of time before he/she jumps on your finger :grbud:
  23. Welcome Dominick She's adorable
