  1. Best of luck - We are thinking of you. Hope he makes the night
  2. You bet Male =Cock Female = Hen My understanding is that a tufted budgie has any kind of feather disturbance on the head Very RARE!!!
  3. Yes she's a Hen, and shes a Normal YF Blue/violet. I love the tuft
  4. Unfortunately, you are talking to a complete novice... What should I be looking for in bodyweight? What is a keelbone? He is pooping but I'm not sure specifically what I'm to be looking for and I haven't a warm lamp on him (but the house isn't cold). The KeelBone is the breast bone (same as a chicken) if it feels quite sharp then he is VERY underweight. If there is some "meat" there, then he is good. He needs extra heat - like us with the flu ( we feel cold even though when its hot) edit Kaz and i posted at the same time hehe

Hello and welcome - i look forward to seeing your pictures. you new baby sounds very cute.
  7. I haven't heard of it either
  8. I started breeding when i was about 12 - it's an exciting adventure. Good luck with finding a book - pet shops often have budgie books for sale Books are good, but they don't cover everything - We can fill in the gaps for you
  9. Hello and welcome. You will find all the info you could ever think of here. I look forward to hearing about your birds
  10. I agree with the others it's a personal choice :bluebudgie: I personally don't use pellets, not for any reason though. I have never really thought about changing from seed and fresh foods
  11. This is a great topic. its great to see others setups. I dont use cages, except for quanentine. i have all my birds divided into 2 avairys. 12f long 6f high and 5f wide is the main one and 4f high by 4f wide by 4f long is the small one. the big one is for adults and breeders, and the other will soon be redone for babies only.
  12. They are adorable Sugar cube is a real cutie - he reminds me of a little penguin hehe. very VERY cute
  13. Thats a great site I have tried many different brands of seed over the years and i personally feel Trill is the best brand. it's fresh, clean and the seeds are viable + it has an added vitamin supplement and shellgritt.

Wow! fancy that!! Thats great .
  15. You mean keeping the fledged babies? Keeping fledged babies is fine. keep as many as you like - I keep all of mine (except for the odd baby that someone else falls in love with too) How big is your cage you will have to wait for all the babies to be weaned before they can be separated from their parents.
  16. washed and whole the shell is the best bit **yum!**
  17. Only the seeds are toxic. Just cut them up and remove the core as if your were giving it to a child :budgiedance:
  18. Hey Sunnie, I have a female violet cinnimon (12-14 weeks) if youd rather serface mail :budgiedance:
  19. Thanks Kaz, I will separate mine. There is way too much hanky-panky going on for my liking.
  20. she is only young. if she goes out and gets used to being a bird and not being a human :budgiedance: , by the time she is 12 months, I cant see why there would be a problem with her breeding

That cage looks big enough for your 2 birds. The perches need to run from front to back (not left to right) so that way they can fly a little. i wouldn't put any more than 2 birds in there though. Sounds like you have all the right ideas so far with waiting for 10 months to breed etc :budgiedance: You can not put budgies with any finches etc - common rule (don't mix hooked beaks with straight beaks) The budgies will injure and possibly kill the defenseless finches and canaries.
  22. Hello and welcome!! You are in the right place to get all the answers you could ever imagine! :budgiedance: budgies love carrots, peas, corn, apple, spinach, snow peas, boc choi, oranges, pears.... and the list goes onnnn...... Just be sure that all food is washed, deseeded and in a condition suitable for human consumption. Canned vegies are to salty. :feedbirds:
  23. They are lovely looking babies. I have to say. i have babies that are just coming out of their first moult and two are mating like crazy (teen's :budgiedance: i don't know!) they haven't produced any eggs, and they have nowhere to lay either but i am thinking about separating these two before they get too tired (Laughing out loud). I don't believe that its the egg that harms a young bird, but more the raising of the chicks that is taxing on their health.

Hello and welcome!! Your birds look lovely. Especially your recessive pied, shes very pretty :hap:
  25. I am so sorry for your loss :hap: On a brighter note, A male can raise his chicks on his own. Especially that there is only two. Just make sure he has plenty of fresh food and water at all times (babies need to be fed at night too) I would go to your pet store and purchase some hand raring mix too, just to be on the safe side in case your male starts to struggle on his own. Do you have any pictures??? All the best =D
