  1. Thats great news!!! :hap:
  2. Hello and welcome! I am from SA too :hap: well done for rescuing the little budgie. Do you have any photos? :hap: Keep us posted with her progress :hap:
  3. Patience. It's okay for them to be a little afraid. they need to get used to you and understand that you will not harm them. They are tough little birds. if they flap around and avoid your hand, just keep it still in their cage until they calm down. they will eventually settle. The longer you can keep your hand in there the better. Judt remember not to force anything and no sudden movements. Also, something i forgot to mention - dont use "Shhhhh!" to calm them down... "Shhhhh" is like saying "watch out! theres a big ugly snake is about to swallow you whole!!!" in bird language hehehe. I recommend using kisses, tongue clicks and quiet whistles to settle your little babies :hap: Best of luck :hap:
  4. :hap: :hap: Thats sooo funny!!! What do the judges think??? do they mark the bird down for being cheeky? hehehe
  5. They are very cute little babies. Your yellow one looks like a girl and the blue looks like a boy :hap: There is a very good taming technique that a number of members have used with much success. It requires lots of patience and persistence. Simply hold a spray of millet on your hand in the cage. and very slowly move it closer and closer to them. do this until you arm feels like it wants to drop off he he he. it might take a week of this before they will even think about eating any millet, but you will get their trust in time :hap: there is a really great article on in the FAQ's about it, but at the moment i can't seem to find it I'm sure one of the others can help with its location :hap:
  6. Thanks :hap: I think I was lucky with mine - he has ring that says he's 14 ('94) years old hehe. I have been told by other memebers that he is more like 3-4 years old. YEAH!! and now i think he has a hen with eggs!!! :hap:
  7. Now that you mention it, the feathers do look like they have been plucked... Poor little guy :hap: . they will grow back though :hap:
  8. Good luck with your surgery. :hap: Shame the poor dog was on the euthanasia list :hap: It maddens me when owners are not responsible and don't care for these lovely creatures! I am so pleased his life is going to benefit your knowledge to help save others lives. It Puts a positive to an inevitable loss.
  9. it was very funny to watch. i just stood there and took photos as fast as my camera could go hehehe

  11. Her voice will probably change as she gets older and it will become similar to Zeus'. I love the name Hera!! VERY CUTE!!
  12. Pheobe has had a sheltered chickhood and she is having a ball discovering the word around her. "Hmmm, what up here??" "Ouch! its the roof" "Hmmm this is interesting stuff" "okay i know what you're thinking, be fair, I'm only a baby" "I still cant work this out" "The others said it was a relaxing place to sit, i think they lied" "Oh NO! Slipping" "WOOOOOOAAAAA!" "Hey! so this is how it's done. Very nice "
  13. OHHHHhhhhh ..... I dunno there Liv. Sometimes I wonder about that statement. Kid proofed the aviary eh ? dang. Yep! it's kid proofed! has to be. My two would open the doors in no time without locks. And they are combination locks so you can't pick it (before you get any ideas) hehehehe
  14. I have this really funny picture in my head of a budgie playing with a barbie
  15. She/HE is only new to your home so she could just be a bit stressed. its quite normal for a bird to have poop problems for a day or so after they move house. Has she got the runs? are they green? is she fluffed up? Is her diet very different to the place where she came from? is she eating yet?? She should probably be wormed too. lots of questions, sorry. See what the others say too
  16. I believe that celery is like lettuce - a nothing food with no nutrients. They are smart birds hehehe When they eat carrots their faces end up orange! Its VERY cute!!! good luck with their new foods
  17. That is a REALLY cool setup!!! I'm very impressed i love your access door - great idea!!! Well done!!!
  18. Broccoli is my birds favorite!! but they also like raw Carrots, raw corn on the cob, boc choi (sp?), Apples, peas and snow peas
  19. Last i remmember you are NOT 3!! **Crazy** They are mine.... ALLLL MINNNNNEEEEEE!!!!! and I have locks on the avairy doors hehehehehehehe! **Normal again hehe** Its a shame you can't get more colours where you are i would be desperate to get some pretty colours too, as thats what i breed for - I breed to get the most colourful birds i can
  20. Looks very handsome - What a find!!!!! I NEVER walk/drive past a petshop without having a look - you just never know what they might have I picked up this boy from a petshop - he is very handsome too!
  21. I'm sorry you are having troubles She has such pretty colours to her feathers. Just a thought... What is her cage like? i personally think diversion therapy could help. I know she has lots of toys. My son still gets bored when surrounded by tons of toys. My budgies love to play with a bunch of long grass in their cage - even better when its wet coz they have a bath at the same time . They also love to strip leaves and bark from branches. When dose she do the plucking??? is she doing it when you are with her or when she is alone, or is it only at night. Maybe she gets anxious in the dark and a night light might help??? Odd idea i know, but you never know what might work hehe. Edit You made a good point SailorWolf... she could have an allergy of a sort. but I'm not thinking a skin allergy but something internal. Her plucking is concerntrated around her crop. perhaps her crop is irritared in some way and she is plucking at that area trying to feel better...??? A avian vet could check her crop to see if there is any inflamation inside her crop.
  22. Cant hardly wait for the new pics tomorrow Females bite, and HARD! But its normally adults who are not used to being handled and are scared. Your little Mary shouldn't ever bite you
  23. Pheobe is a YF sky blue Opaline. I would like to (next year) hopfully get some YF opalines from her. I have a YF Pied Cock (picture 1 on the right) and i was wondering if i would get YF's from them...??? Pheobe's YF is VERY light, almost cream colour and i really want to get brighter YF chicks. If YF+YF = 75% YF than thats great. I alsways thought YF+YF = white face. I am really excited about breeding YF opalines next year, i think they are gorgeous!!!! Been there done that with my son. He got so excited at the zoo that he got a REALLY bad nose bleed and it wouldnt stop - he was covered in blood and some bystanders were looking a little pale - (Laughing out loud). he was fine though. it was a hot day and a lot of excitement for a little boy hehe. Kids and animals - like salt on chips
  24. Great close up!! She is very cute and i would say she is a SHE too
