Too Much?
You could try the happy meal with the pasta instead of the burger, the OJ insead of Coke and the dried apple bits instead of the chips - but then that defies the purpose of junk food

Finally Out Of Quarantine
Well they are setteled in for the night and i think Pheobe will be a lot calmer tomorrow. She was not looking stresses so much, more like a kid at a fun park - she didn't know what to do first and wanted to try everything at the same time!!!! Pheobe: "The nest boxes, no fly, no swoop the others, No eat, No the swing, No fly, no the nest boxes, no fly, no eat....... OHHHHhh too much stimuli "

Too Much?
I might I also add that Broccoli is an excellent source of calcium!!! agreed there too - it seems that all the healthy stuff is the most expensive
-
Too Much?
I would stop giving it to your breeders. breeders are starved for calcium at best. The others will be fine with their once a week treat
-
Too Much?
Are you serious !!!???!!! You are kidding, right ???? out of 250+ birds, not one likes it!!! OMG! mine go bananas over it and are landing on me and eating it from my hands before i can i can even get it to the feeder!!!! :hap:

Too Much?
Its full of iron which stops calcium being absorbed. Calcium is far more important for budgies than iron. Spinach is considered a treat only food. maybe a leaf per bird per week.

Growing Beak
Better spent on feeding your huge family than in a vet's massive pockets!!! I agree!! and with the ever increasing cost of food, every dollar counts!!!! Vet bills are only good when there is a problem that we cant deal with ourselves.

Too Much?
The expense is crazy - upto $8 a kg here!!!

Found Baby - Help Required
I'm So sorry Well done for everything you did for him! Maesie is right - you saved him from being alone, cold and frightened in the wild (not a place for a domestic budgie) *tears of sorrow and happiness mixed together*

Help Me Welcone Our Newest Family Member, Miley!
Oh she is very pretty

Finally Out Of Quarantine
Thanks maesie, thats a great idea. I will pop her cage in there and see if she wants it . she is doing much better now. I have seen her eating, and preening and trying to make friends. I feel she was possibly as young as 4 weeks when i bought her. She has no social skills - she tries to land on other birds and chases them around the avairy. I have never seen a bird act like she does, i am just hoping its because she has been "sheltered" and will learn how to act like the others in the flock.

Too Much?
They can have too much spinach - but I'm pretty sure broccoli is not going to do any harm

Long Flighted Birds
The article is talking about foundation birds used in early breeding in the fifties...so no. No pictures. What a shame. It sounds interesting. I tried Googleing it too - got nothing

Growing Beak
She looks good, so it cant be stoping her from eating etc. Maybe she might need sedation because its the bottom part rather than the top....??? not sure????

Finally Out Of Quarantine
I love the unpredictible colours that come from colony breeding Now, however i want to get some YF violet Opalines Barney needs a YF female And i have a Big Grey Spangle cock who i want to find a hen for too. Phoebe has the violet gene and a very light YF I might have a cock for her, but YF and YF = No YF . So i have 3 birds( still needing partners) that i would like to closed breed if i can

Finally Out Of Quarantine
It is really rewarding - Barney is a real character and has been dying to get in the avairy. He is really happy now. Thanks Kaz, I'm worried about Pheobe though. She is very timid. Could the stress cause her to get sick. should she go back into quarantine, or will she just get over it??? Thanks Bec Sta, Barney is really pretty and he stands out in my flock too. He is the colour of that kids dinosour Barney, hence the name hehehe I do at the moment. I have 3 pairs now on their last round until Spring. 1 female is getting retired from breeding after this clutch because she is 4 years old and given me about 15 lovely babys in her time I am thinking about modifying my flight avairy to have breeding cages in it so i can better choose the pairs. For now I am just seperating the adults from the babies. I have until spring to decide about the breeding cages techinique. Thanks, I hope she settles in soon too. she is going to get exausted with all the flying around and exploring she is doing.

Growing Beak
There was a post recently about the rescued baby bird who had the really long beek caused by the mites etc. I think it was called "student budgie" The vets trimmed his beak without sedation in that story. Your vets might be trying to add some $$$$ to your bill, but everyone does things differently so its hard to say.

Finally Out Of Quarantine
32 days for Barney 30 days for Pheobe And they are FINALLY free form their little Quarantine cages!!!! Barney's purple still isn't showing up in the pics - he is VIVID and looks even more spectacular next to my other birds. Barney(left) sizes up the boys. Social Rankings are tested The top dog keeps his status. Secret mens business held Around the triangle perch Pheobe (sky blue opaline) on the other hand - freaked out!!! She came from a petshop and now i think she may have been bred in a cage, rather than an avairy. I think she has never known so much space in her life!!! She flew around frantic, and is a bit scared of the other birds - both the budgies and the tiels. She even was warey of the natural perches and didnt want to land on them at first. I will have to keep an eye on her to make sure she finds the food and water etc. She causiously checked out the nestboxes - it was very cute to watch her try and peek in the holes with out getting nipped by its occupants. She she is very flitty and i hope she is going to settle in okay She wont be with the boxes for long. I am currently doing a overhaul of my 2 avaries so i can create a seperate baby avariy - I will post info on that soon Also i have decided not to pair her and Barney together. I am going to find him an adult YF normal hen Pheobe i will pair with the boy to the right of the first photo - he is about a month older than her, so they can bond in the baby flight (hope to have it done this weekend).

Found Baby - Help Required
A long time ago i use to feed rescue birds crushed weetbix with warm water as emergency food. It gets very sticky and messy so you will have to be careful with it around his feathers. Perhaps try dipping a toothpic into the mix and gently placing the food to the opening of his beak. He may be too week to take it, but its worth a try. edit Hang on, Kaz said not to try and feed as he may asperate..... she has LOTS more experience than i, so now I'm not sure - personally i would try and get a little food into him though
