Newbie, With Question
Good luck with your hand rearing - It's something i haven't tried yet ( a bit scared I'd stuff it up to be honest). We have had a member on here recently who lost a 4 week old chick to sour crop, which can be caused by incorrect feeding. Ensure everything is sterile at each feed and make sure the food is at the right temperature. Good luck and i hope the little chick makes it You will need to find another heat source as the wheat bag will cool off fairly quickly (especially at night) There are some very talented hand feeders here that i am sure would be more than happy to help you out Would be great to see some pics when you get your new charger.

Budgie And Heater ?
If your heater has a flu then you will see it coming out your roof or wall... If its a free standing heater with no external flu then they are barley okay for humans, and quite dangerous for birds.

Thinking About Getting A Budgie But Working Full Time
Budgies are totally addictive and this place makes them even MORE addictive! When i joined here i had 10 birds, 9 months later I have 30 Great to hear you have found a cage Here is a link to see the right and wrong cage types... Just because someone says they are suitable for birds, doesn't mean they are.... just double check here to make sure the cage to are looking at is suitable. --> Right and worng cages

Thinking About Getting A Budgie But Working Full Time
Hello and Welcome Firstly. No question is too big or too small We love questions - it keeps us on our toes You will probably get a number of different opinions here, and it is also a personal choice. Personally, I would have 2 birds. I would buy 2 baby (6 week old) siblings from a breeder who has continued to handle the babies from a young age. That way they are already starting to tame and are good friends with each other. Ensure your cage is big enough for them to have room to fly... This is an ideal cage for 2 budgies And fill it with LOTS of toys. A radio or a TV left on during the day can help too. Hope this helps a little

Scooter And Latte
I hope so.. i dont think there will be a problem taming Latte as i have held her since she was teeny weeny - i am hoping Scooter will see she is calm with me and tame for me too I look forward to Latte coming inside... i feel the period between her coming out the the box and being weaned from her parents will be the toughest part.... My kids are crazy for birds - must be in the blood hehehe. I have had a tiel, Sammy, inside for about a month now. I have been taming him for my dad - Sammy is flying to Melbourne (to be with my dad) next Thursday. They are going to be devastated when Sammy goes It will be great. I picked Latte for her name because her cinnamon markings are the colour of a perfect mid-strength latte.... MMMMMMmmmmm coffee hehehehe

Homemade Budgie Toys
I am making custom toys for my boy Scooter who has rickets in his feet and falls off any round perches. I was in Spotlight (huge craft store) the other day and was grabbing all sorts of colourful wooden beads, ropes, danglely things and other fun stuff to create some bird toys..... Then i stoped and though for a moment.... How do i know that any of these bits are not toxic - they could have lead based paints etc used on them the packaging said nothing.... so i put it ALLL back on the shelf. How do i find (or make my own) budgie safe, non toxic bits for toys. Is food dye safe to use for colouring rope?

Scooter And Latte
This is Scooter He is a budgie that came from a petshop and has rickets causing him to have little use of his feet for perching. I am in the process of making him special perches and toys He still has 3 weeks of quarinene to go. And this is Latte.. She is the baby i have selected to be Scooters friend. She is a pretty Skyblue Cinnamon Pied. I took this picture of her this morning and she is already bigger than Scooter at 24 days old hehehehe She still has 2 weeks or so with her parents then she come inside. Here is their cage i purchased yesterday It is, as you can see, totally bare so i have LOTS of toy making and buying to do in the next few weeks I have always only had aviary birds, so having these two inside is going to be a real experience for me, i am very excited. I am hoping to tame Scooter. He is about 4-5 months old and quite flightly, but he is already calmer today then he was a week ago
