That makes me very brave as I cut the old boy open my self and Greg helped me idenify parts. I thought it would make me sick but I was fine. :budgiedance: And the best part was I found a tumor and if I loose anymore birds I have the micrscope to help identify things now too. Now that i have done one I will do more when needed. It is Great because Greg knows all the parts of the anatomy and what they should look like when healthy which is a great help.
  2. Boy I don't know how I missed seeing this earlier...... Thanks Gina great article very very helpful.
  3. Good luck Daryl but I am sure you don't need it

Sorry Renee I meant Lou Lou, any way I hope all is well, and of course a proper diagnosis is extremely important when 2 birds go down at once. Could even be cocci but I really hope it is nothing serious.

They are coming along beautifully Kaz
  8. This is a cyst not sure if a feather or from a piece of seed but after all the blood was drained we cut out the same cheesey stuff that is found in a feather cyst. The swelling is much better now no bllod in it but still some selling. But she is as happy as Larry and fit as a fiddle.
  9. Well Kaz... touch wood which I just did I have not had one of those yet.

    Lovely Pets Renee
  11. My view is she is far too good to cull or bin or what ever. But she is not out the woods yet. But still she is looking better every day.
  12. I have been thinking seriosly of making a disinfectant baths for walking through into my baby avairy .
  13. I also agree, I did neglect to ask her age earlier.
  14. Yes That is what a feather cyst is, an ingrown feather ( well at least that is my understanding)
  15. Well if she recovers and she is looking good I will try her and see what happens as I said before there was something like a seed at the start of the cyst so it could be what of started it off. Maybe not your usual feather cyst well it did not behave like one anyway and on the side of the eye is probably very unusal.
  16. Congratulations Alpaca Boy
  17. Gee your Lucky Renee you can give your birds stuff in the dark , I can't go near my birds in the dark they friek out smash against everything. I am glad you have put her and all your birds on the doxy Renee because that was the first thing my vet told me to do. He said most important and actually I couldn't understand why but it is a broadspretrum antibiotic but at the same time he might of being thinking something more serious Clamidia or how ever you spell it. So I am really pleased you did it. It would be ashame for a disease like that go through your aviary. I new my hen didn't have it as I couldn't find anything under the microscope.
  18. But I will be keeping a close eye on her and her siblings and recording such incendents
  19. You are probably right but it must be back 4 generation or more because it is the very first cyst I have had and nearly all my birds are related in one way or another.
  20. That sounds good Robyn
  21. It looks alright from here, they say the cere should be walnut brown but all hens are different. Is she show great interest in the cock and flirting etc, mating playing out role then yes
  22. But Renee if her eye is sore and the feathers around looked wet to me that means she must have some fluid leaking out just like our eyes.
  23. Well that must be the answer feather and the directional feather, they prefer to stay on the floor than crash
