  1. I am just wondering whether they pass it down, genetic or it is just that bird only. They are too good not to breed from but if we use these birds are we breeding a variety of tailess wonders
  2. That's what i am wondering. You breed the big wide headed birds with good feather length etc and how often do you get a tailess wonder, this violet green is going to be a boofy head bird. How many other breeders have these big birds with heaps of feather and no tails?
  3. Need pics to see what type of yellow you have.
  4. Yes differently bourke's parrots, i use to breed them years ago too.
  5. I think that is true as I have read that somewhere. I am guilty of that and now wish I hadn't done it. I have a violet green baby just starting to go through his first moult and he is a stunner but silly me pulled his tail feather without cutting it first and letting it die , and now I have a tailess wonder
  6. Yes that's what I am wondering for example ..... the bird has his or her tail until their first moult and then it grows back but deformed, like not very long a short stub and feathers on the end or long but feathers hear and there. Talking about tails only. French moult or genitic
  7. Yes I would cut back do the veges every second or third day and a small amount of wet food a day, to much is not really good because you can over do it. Did the same thing last breeding season cut back and things improved But it wouldn't hurt to drill some air holes around the top of the nest for ventalation. Good luck I hope it all improves.
  8. So it is okay to use opalines CW , what do you keep out of that nest. Hens only or cocks too.
  9. With clearwings as far as I know you can put any colour together as long as they are not split for anything at all. for example cinnamon and opaline. But that is only if you are breeding show type birds. The best way to get all clearwings is to use a dilute. I am starting my venture in clearwings this year along with lacewing, albino, lutino and clearbody but mainly focusing on clearwing and clearbody

Hi Taboo and welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing photos of your birds. I think it is wonderful that you are getting your boys interested in this great hobby.
  11. Yes opaline sky spangle
  12. Hi all just wondering what you guys think of the tail less wonder. Do you think it is a part of French Moult OR Genetic Just like to what different breeders think.
  13. She is really good Kaz, I don't think the swelling will ever go away but it much smaller than it was and it just looks like air in it now not filled with blood. She is now on no medications at all. I took all my birds off the doxy as some were having side affects to it so I guess that didn't need it. they were starting to look depressed and some had starting to have the loose droppings so I cut it out. The hen had it for 21days and the flock only 14 days but the are all much chirper now. droppings all look normal and they had a few days of probotic. All getting wormed today including the girl above.

I would actually keeps those birds in side isolated for longer just incase, but that's just me Younger birds don't have the immunity that older birds have and I would be too worried about subjecting them to someing that can't cope with even though they are on medication.
  15. splat replied to renee's topic in In Memorium
Well Renee I am glad there are no hard feelings, and everthing is working out.

I am pleased you got a good result, sorry it had to Chlamydia Psittacosis , I am very pleased that Lou Lou eye has cleaned up, it must of been the psittacosis too. Well the good news you are on top of it and hopefully you won't loose anymore.
  17. So Renee does that mean you just grab a bird that looks good out of the aviary and take it along to the show and hope to win? Or if you think you have a chance the day before you will put it in the show box for a quick one day lesson? Did I get it right........
  18. Well said RIP, I back you all the way with what you said
  19. Yes as Clearwing said it could mean trouble like the start of a prolapse, old hens tend to rupture like that when you put them down to breed. I hope yours is a egg bum good luck.
  20. Gosh even blood works well
  21. Ahhh gee Daz I have 28 years and 3 months before I reach that age as they say 50 is now the new 30 Nice to see you back
  22. :laughter: I had a red headed sky blue cinn opaline spangle budgie last week , It's a new variety!!! Oh I actually still have the red headed bird.
  23. Gee $80. and $60. what a mark up , I wonder what the breeder gets when they sell them to the store because here in Vic I am sure they only get $5.00 each at Pets Paridise in Melbourne but they will take 50 or more at one time, I might be wrong though.
