Disaster In The Breeding Room Feather Plucking
Hello! I am having a bad year, I have 2 hens feather plucking their young which age between 9 to 18 days old between the 2 nest. they are both plucking the babies backs, these hens have never done it before, one hen is plucking worse than the other and I am trying to work out what the problem is, haven't found it yet. BUT my biggest major problem is that I have no where to put the babies, because my foster parents are already raising young from other nest. WHATA DISASTER, If any one can help with a solution other than fostering please let me know. I am trying to work out if it is .... diet vitamins or WHAT If anyone has an idea I would be happy to take some advise Bye for now Julie

Spangles
I breed spangles and quite nice ones too, I have had no trouble with my markings except for the throat spots which I am working on I put spangle to normal, then I will put spangle to spangle to keep the line strong and I was told to put a spangle to a normal but out of a spangle and that works well too. If you breed spangle to spangle all the time you adventurely wash out there colour then you need to put them back with a good normal to bring the colour and markings back. So you are better off putting spangle to normal. Normal also means you can add opaline and cinnamon, the breeder I buy my birds off is A champ breeder plus judge and he uses cinnamon and opaline a lot. Well I hope I was able to help!!!

No they are marbles, I put them in so they don't sit too heavy on the babies and hopefully stop the chance of getting splayed legs.!!! :ausb:

The Budgerigar Program
Some Screenshots: Here Take a look at it at this link and if you want to download the 200 max record trial version (doesnt expire, just alows a max of 200 records of budgies) you can get that here :ygbudgie: Hi Adam. I was looking at getting the budgie Program but it will not open on my computer for some reason so I wrote to them and if I buy it and it doesn't work he will refund my money, but it $75.00 US moneybut shipping is in that. I was also looking at getting the Birdrec Programme from Yorke, Have you heard of that one and have any info on it? Because birdrec V7cost $119.00 plus $9.50 postage Aust But I don't know which one to go for as I can't try them, there is also more there is Bird Stud 3.00 Australian and you can get a trial of this one but i still can't down load it, I was able to down load Avimate 3.00 which is for all birds not just budgies but it is only a 30 day trial then if you want to continue it will i think it was $400 or $500 US money and I am not that desperate. If any one has anymore info on breeding programes please let me know. Cheers Julie

Here Is A Couple Of My Birds (if It Works)
These 2 Handome young guys are from the same nest, There mother died while siiting on their eggs, so I quickly put them under another hen and I was very lucky that they all hatched. The sky blue opaline cinnamon that was very pale in colour, which my patner Greg made me sell was out the same nest also. Gee she was a real cutie but she is gone now. I will post more photos later if this works. Julie :oliveb:

Hello Everyone
Thanks I have joined the Photo Bucket and will try to download some photos tomorrow. Thanks Julie Yes if it was up to me I would have every bird I have bought and bred still here, but not to be. I had to part with my most beautiful Sky blue opaline cinnamon spangle hen out of a double factor white spangle which she died in the nest and I had to adobt the eggs out. The skyblue cinnmon hen was gorgous but very pale in colour and she had the most beautiful white head so I still think I should of kept her if not just to carry on her mothers genes but I do have 2 full brothers here and they are stunnibg too, I have won 1st place with them both, but the hen was smaller. Cheers Julie

Hello Everyone
Hi everyone, I am new to BBC, joined a few days ago. My Name is Julie, I have been breeding Budgies for just over 3 years now, but between my partner and I we have had birds forever as he has a couple hundred racing pigeons, and about 20 Gloster Fancy Canaries, where's the budgies are his and mine but mainly mine, but he is very harsh on keeping the best which is good but it really hurts when you have to part with your favorite or cutest babies, But it is for the best as 18 months ago I decided to start showing them. We have always bred to improve, never breeding just anything. At the moment I have 12 little babies in four different nest, I did have 15 but I have lost 3 when they hatched. The oldest baby is 9 days and the youngest was born today. When I go into my aviaries and muck around most of my birds come and land on me, sit on my shoulder, head arm etc, it is quite pleasing. I need help I can't work out how to post a picture, could some please help as I have taken photos and now I am stuck. Cheers Julie

Multiple Eggs In 1 Day?
Hi Just read your question and I breed and show budgies and To my experience budgies lay 1 egg every other day, I have read heaps about the budgies and breeding and they say the same thing. The only thing I could think that if you are colony breeding another hen has jumped in and layed her egg, my friend colony breeds and she has one hen that will go from nest to nest, she says she is a pain. I hope this helps. Cheers Julie

Girl Or Boy
Hi Kathleen, I am new to the budgerigar breeders club, but I do have quite a few birds that I am trying to breed to show quality which is slowly happening. I took a look at your little Lutino and to me he is a cock bird as hens have a brown cere and cocks have a pink cere, plus also you will find that hens bite much harder than cocks do. Well I hope this helps. Cheers Julie
