An Unorthodox Breeding Method
Great article Daz, I am in the middle of doing that now, I am using my best 2 cocks with 6 different hens, Gee it's hard work, but it seems to be going great so far. I do have 2 sets of foster parents waiting if needed. :budgiedance: First should hatch in 2 days.

Budgies I Stole From My Taxi Driver
I am confused as your Olive looks to be grey green, How do you know it is an Olive . Several breeders have told me the only difference between a Dr Green and an Olive is the tail. Dk Green has black feathers and Olive has blue where the black is on the dk Green So seeing your Olives that to me are grey green is totally confusing me. Can someone please explain the difference to me. :ausb: They are lovely birds Feathers,

More Birds That Came From A Country Breeder
Yes I agree with Macka, I have an Olive and it is dark green with a blue tail, where is a dark green has a black tail. So to me they both look grey green. Hope you don't mind me pointing this out.

The "gentle" Art Of Seduction
That's happened here last year Kas but the opposite, I put my double factor white hen which was of good blood in with a grey green cock of good blood also, Well! no sooner did I close the door on the breeding box, she had bowed and he was on top, I couldn't believe it the hen was the one that wanted it and that was really within seconds. I ran up to the house to tell Greg. Unfortunately she died in the nest but I managed to save her eggs. I had another experience just before, my grey spangle the one in my signiture and a lt green opaline hen I just put them in together and, did, he flirt within 5 minutes he was going for it not bad for a young bird. I got some photos of them, well I wasn't really perving, I was taking photos of my babies. Post later

Flight Feather Problem Is It Feather Duster Or French Molt
Thanks everyone, tried what Kathy W and Kas said and I think that was staring to feather but I hit blood stop straight away. will wash them tomorrow and no more vasaline. I took them out of the neat box and put them on the floor so dad can look after them. That will stop her from plucking them too. So far so good.

Flight Feather Problem Is It Feather Duster Or French Molt
That's what I am wondering, should I give him a warm sopy bath and wash the vasaline off, maybe it's the culprit. Daz a few years ago i had a couple of mops and the hair didn't really start to curl until about 41/2 to 5 weeks old. Here are some more photos of the oldest, maybe it's the vasaline that is making him look crappy. Daz I hope he turns out alright and the length of feather will be the best thing in the long run, WOW

Flight Feather Problem Is It Feather Duster Or French Molt
No Daz there are no feathers missing at this stage, but I am really worried that they are feather dusters, because the older one has really long feathers around the head and neck area. Normally that is what we are looking for is feather length in head and etc, but these birds have me worried.

Incompetent Cock ?
If there is a nest available she will probably go down but if there is no nest I wouldn't worry to much. As for the Phil well he will get the hang of it. Don't concern your self to much. They seem to do it when we are not watching. I think they must get embarrased :rip:

Flight Feather Problem Is It Feather Duster Or French Molt
I have 2 babies so far out of 1 nest that have their fight feathers abnormal (see photo), the mother did and does feather pluck them, I have vasoline on the babies and glass on the nest, I seemed to have slowed it down but yesterday I notice their wings are strange. They are 5 weeks old, I am thinking feather duster or maybe french molt. I have never had a bird with french molt as to now so not sure, I have had 2 feather dusters out of ! nesy a few years ago but they had really messy wings, very, very untidy looking. But these babies their wings are not really untidy yet. They are both dark green but the older one looks to be olive as it has blue tail feather and the other one has black. Anyway take a look and see if anyone can help. :excl: The older one which looks worse which we think is an Olive. The younger one which is not as bad and only 2 days difference in age The 2 of them What do you all think? :rip:

Mixed Or Seperate
I have my birds mixed all year but seperate them 3 weeks before I put them down. I am happy with how my birds are breeding. My hens are constantly flying around as they can see the cock birds in the other flight. I have a nursery & flight for the babies. Everyone has their own ideas. :rip:

Buying A Second Hand Aviary
There is nothing wrong with a second hand aviary as Kas said you just need to clean it wash it with a bacteria wash and as Kas said Vinigar is a great one and cheap. I also you domestos, a small amount to a bucket of water to wash down my aviary. I use it to wash everything, including drinkers and feed bowls. But I also rinse it off. :hap: Back to the second Aviary, I see quite a few of them in Brisbane area on ebay, Good luck with your search memonty :rip:

Babie Budgie Sex?
I'm taking a punt and going with Macka, least until the new picture are posted. Looks to me that the white doulbe factor looks to be a hen, and the blue spangle that I can see it's head looks to be a cock bird, can't really see the other one but guessing cock. :rip:

Ever Seen A Bad Case Of Scaley Face Mites?
Feathers they are looking so much better, great job, you must be pleased with yourself. To think that something that looks so awfull and not to mention uncomfortable and more than likely painful and itchy IS SO EASY TO TREAT. I think all pet owners should take a lesson on simple bird aliments and treatment. It would save birds from suffering un needlessly. :rip:

Is My Bird A Dark Eyed Clear Or A Double Factor Spangle
When you say her eyes are dark plum do you mean red because to me she looks like an Lutino.
-
The Mop
Yes Kas I think it comes from both parents because I have used the parents of my mops (feather dusters) since to different birds and all has been fine. You should be right but time will tell, Good luck.

The Mop
When my friend told me about it I was going to go there myself and have ago at him but he was closed down anyway. So I didn't need to. Byt I was quite disgusted when she told me. Since I bred my first 2 mops, I never put the parents back together again, and so far have not bred anymore.

1st Egg Just Hatched. It's My First Clutch Of Budgies.
Yes I agree with everyone so far, I believe the more you handler them the quieter they are, but they are much better off with their parents who can give them the best sfart in life.

Nesting Material
I use the pine wood shavings also, and I put in one good size handful.

Nest Box Designs
Yes that's right some nest mainly the ones you buy are much to low and you can not put in a spare concave. I have 2 bought ones from the pet shop and they are pains in the bum, because the chicks jump out when they're not even 3 weeks old. Most of mine nest box are similar to yours, but having the slide in front cut into 2 is the best, don't know why I never thought of it before, and I have ones that the lid opens from the top and they are a pain in the but to keep clean. Daz today Greg just cut me 5 out so I can make them up and replace them with the old nest as they finish their current nest ready for the next birds to go in, ( That will be the birds I bred from last year and my new birds that Greg bought me for my birthday.

Where To Get Leg Bands / Rings ...
Yes before I joined a club I bought rings from pet stores which were differnt coloured plastic ones and Shepp has a bird club for all types of birds I think it is called the Goulburn Valley bird club and I do think that Albury has the same type of club, so if you can find that out they do sell rings to non members (plastic coloured and metal coloured.
