Breeding Cycle?
When the hen lays her second egg, normally that's when she will start sitting, So I always mark it down from when the second egg is layed. :nest: That should be 18 days. sometimes they hen might sit earlier but not often, and sometimes the hen doesn't sit good and it can be more, But 18 days is the cycle. I hope this Wayno.

Lino For The Aviary
The lino sounds good but I would be looking out for moisture plus it makes it a good place for the mice to hide and breed. I have coarse river sand in my 2 outside flights and cement on my part inside flight and I really find the sand is easiest to clean, I use brush and shovel and I sweep the top layer which is seed husk and droppings and then put a little more sand down. and as for the cement one I sweep, scrup, scrap and wash. Because the birds have been sick I have been doing this everyday. BUT I don't mind as long as they get better. :fear

Feeling Ill
That person could not call himself a breeder, that is so disgusting. :fear I am a great believer that if you have a pet or pets you treat them respect and love, as you would yourself or children, look after them the best you can possibly do. That poor little girl, she is stronger than me. I hope the RSPCA give him *** :

Totally Heart Broken. Hen Just Killed Her Partner
That rotten hen even attacked another hen in the flight hat night. She is a so and so. A nice sky blue spangle hen with really good markings and she throughs those good spangle markings too. Well the double factor attacked her face . Blood all over her cere and left eye. Can't see any really bad injurys. But *** there is no cocks in that flight. She is a total cow. What's her problem.

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Just found another sick baby, full sister to the 2 we have lost but from the next clutch, will watch closely and keep you all inform. It must be heriderty(can't spell). Going nuts here. She looked all right this morning and now all fluffed up in a heap.

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Daz they are on Trimidine, the vet wants me to treat them for that which is the coccidiosis and then if know improvement it will more than likely be mega. I told him about the funglin losengers and he says he knows about them and said there is also something from veta farm and it wasn't the mega s or what ever it was called. He siad mega is really hard to treat. Any way I went to my local chemist and asked him about the tablets, I told him waht they were for and I can get them off him with out a priscription because they are for birds. I thought that was really good of him  But at this moment in time all birds are looking good, I have my fingers crossed. Still early days yet.

Hen Wont Leave The Nest
I wouldn't worry to much, it might look like she doesn't leave the nest but they do and sometimes you would think they don't mate but they also do that. Just leave her and see what happens, I have some hens the same but all works out well in the end. Good Luck

Totally Heart Broken. Hen Just Killed Her Partner
Yes I know Kas, but I did chuck out in the flight a few hours later. She is now on the for sale list. It is a shame because she is a nice hen and throughs really nice young, but I am not going to risk her again so I don't care. You know what hurst the most the cock she killed had matured beautifully, just admirering the day I put him in with her thinking well you are really nice, he had his head rolled and had filled out since those photos were taken. The pics are 6 months or more old. He was looking really good and I was really proud of him. NOW HE IS GONE. and what a horrible death. Poor little boy.

Totally Heart Broken. Hen Just Killed Her Partner
Thanks everyone for your thoughts, it is helping. Yeh Feathers would love a big real hug, but cyper hugs are cool. Daz thanks and yes wish we were a bit closer, like in the next town. (Laughing out loud) Norm I would really becarefull with you changing your birds around, Because it really hits you when iy happens and what hurts me the most is that I did everything right. You just never know what's around the corner. Greg was really upset last night when he came home from work and I told him. Hr reckons he would of rang her neck if he had discovered him. :ausb: I really don't know it he would of or not. Beacuse I felt like it. :dbb1:

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Update Report Today all young are looking very good, I know I am not out of the woods yet , because when the first one died everything was good for a couple of weeks then bang, So I am still waiting but they are on medication and all is looking good. Kathy no one has interfered with my birds our closest neighbour is about 100mts away and she loves the birds. We thought first it was something to do with the new avairy but no it is not. There is no poisons near it and have checked food and water which gets replaced fresh every day and all green foods and veges are washed very well. The avairy is cleaned out and vacuumed everyday now since they have been sick but before that it was twice a week. I have isolated all birds that look unwell and that is 8 at the moment. BUT they are looking good now but they will stay there until the medication is finished and talk to the vet.

New Aviary Changes
Kas tha's sounds so nice. wish I had a set up like that. But I am pretty happy with what I have, I would like my breeding room to be a bit wider , Oh what the heck and longer so I can have more breeding cages, BUT GUESS WHAT it won't happen. But Kas good luck with yours. Look forward to seeing some pics
