  1. I was planning on breeding yellow face albinos this year, had my albino cock bird and 3 yellow face grey normals already but decided to focus on certain lines that Greg wanted me to. BUt i did put down my sky blue cock split for albino with a yellow face hen, SO YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN. BUT Greg and I got a big surprise recently. We put down 2 grey green spangles which were split for blue, they had 3 babies. The oldest one a lovely big grey green normal, the second one a grey spangle which looks to be cinnamon because the grey is washy but it didn't didn't have the red eyes and the third was a double factor cinnamon white spangle. We were very surprised as the chance of getting blue is very slim and we got 2 out 3. So point is you just never know.

Yes I my birds are noisy like Kathys in the house. They love 2 chirp and carry on and when they are asleep noise doen't bother them unless it is sudden loud noise.

Thanks Guys, it is really very ordinary but I love it, I would love something bigger but that's just wishing at this stage. But actually by summer time most of the breeding birds and some young birds are in those flights and they are that noisy you can hardly hear your self think. From dawn to sun set. Sometimes when we have visitors they complain about the noise. BUT it doesn't worry me, I don't seem to hear them. (must be use to it) :budgiedance:

Hi, Greg has at long last built my saftey cage. But instead of going right across the front he brought the hens cage out to the front which made it bigger. This is the completed picture This picture is when only half completed still has wire in the old area. I am as happy as Larry with it. I don't have to worry about the birds getting out anymore. picture Before the safety cage

Greg has just built me a baby Aviary off the bird room. I love it so much. I have pics of the flight from inside the bird room looking to the baby flight. It is hard to get a picture from the outside as there is only a few feet to the fence. The flight is very enclosed but lost of sunshine and light get in but I has Clear PVC on the wire for protection the my babies. Here is a picture will see if I can get more soon. and here is a picture of some of my babies in the new flight.

Wow that is one huge fantastic aviary, lovely birds too. Love the King Parrots. There is a bloke that lives across the road from me and he has huge aviaries too with all sorts of birds. Mainly parrot. From the road you would think it was a nursery because of the plantation he has growing there and when you go in it is so wonderful with huge aviaries with trees and bushes in and surrounding the aviaries.

    Well done Kaz..
  8. Wow Kas, they are Lovely birds, What a wonderful husband you have, send him over here. I can't complain, my partner just finished building me a flight off the bird room for my babies. Might post photo late. I love it. He also did the safety door thing for the outside flights. So he's great in my books.
  9. Hey Kas I made one months ago, very similar, actually I made it up out of my head one day. I hang mine off one of the perches at the front of the flight and I hang seed sticks etc off the different perches. My birds love it too. Here is an old picture of one of the flights with one hanging in the front, it is much bigger than yours and I have a big swivel hook which when the birds land on the perches it turns around.

Thanks Macka, But I have asked, know one in my clubs really go out of there way to help, there is a couple of people in the 2 clubs that really would go out of there way to help, but that'a about it. I have given up asking. Gee I sound hard done by don't I. Splat, re the problem of taking the cage fronts off & replacing them again. I put a photo of cages I made on here a short time ago, where I use the little plastic turn things that are made to hold flyscreens in wooden window. They make it easy & don’t damage your timber. I don’t know how to direct you to the post, but see if you can find it. I think I did see your cages. but wasn't sure what you meant. So You screw the little plastic things onto your cage and then put your wire fronts in place and then you turn your little plastic things to catch the wire. IS THAT HOW IT WORKS. Does it really hold the wire firm so that the birds can't escape. It does sound good and much easier. Especially half way through breeding season when you want to get in there and give it a good clean before the next lot of birds go in.

Gee you're lucky Daz, none of the clubs around here do anything like that. Your Club sounds fantastic. Because For example I buy my wire fronts and trays from the pet shop. Even your wire frames are better. The ones I use you have to nail them on with u nails or staples, then you have the shitty job of pulling them out to clean the cages and then hamming them back on hoping you can match the holes up again The Victorian Society offers show cages and fronts, kits etc as I am sure yours does too but the clubs around her don't seem to offer anything than the membership. I really wish my club was like yours. Ah well can't have everything.

I feed my birds frozen peas and corn which I defrost in the microwave for a minute or two and I add finely chopped celery, crated carrot and apple. They love it some prefer the corn and carrot more than the peas. Some times I add endive and parsley for variety. But I might your method Allison and see how they go.

Hey Daz your trays look better than mine. It looks like you have little sides and backs on yours, where's mine look the same in material and the front but they don't have the sides or back. Where do you buy yours and if not rude of me, how much? Mine cost $8.00 each and I made my big ones myself.

They looked great Daz, but they don't look like they are divided (sliding) departments. Didn't they want the divided type with the sliding divider door thing Daz. What are you using for the bit across the bottom, steel on aluminium. I like that idea as they can't chew t it up like the wood ones.
  20. Yes Norm, it has happened to me too, first time in all the time I have been breeding. A cock ripped the beak off one and I had to put it down and then the hen totally destroyed another baby. I now have little refuge boxes and cans in the breeding boxes so the young can escape, SO FAR SO GOOD.
  21. No there night 5 weeks yet the oldest almost the youngest nearly 4 weeks, I think the hen kicked them out too early. They are not eating on their own yet. But will take your advice and try it. :ausb:
  22. Macka, I put a medium size milo tin in their since then but I have it lying on its sid ewith the lid off wiil that work or will they be able to go in and attack them? Kas they were between 2 weeks and 3 when i put them in there and everything was good for a week or probably more. Seems they fed them and all I thought everything would be good but nooo. :ausb:
  23. I am having a bad year, this has never happened to me before, wondering if it is the diet. Well my problem is I have in one breeding box a hen decided to attack the oldest of her young, This hen was raising them by herself because the cock bird died, everything was going fine until the oldest 2 left the nest. After she attacked the oldest one I took them all off her and spread them around in different nest. That was good for a week but then one of the cock birds killed the one that was attacked ealier, so I decide their must of been something wrong with that bird because he was always screaming for food, that's why I think they attaked him. So I left the cock bird in the cage with his partner and babies 2 theirs and 2 from the other nest. Yesterday before I went to work everthing was fine the next young down from the one that was killed was sitting up on the perch and the others on the floor. When I came home the one sitting on the perch was dead, attacked face and head destroyed what a horriable death, I was totally beyound myself. I took the hen out and now the cock is left with the others and I am scared he will do it a again. But Greg thinks that the one killed yesterday may have gone into the nest and she may have been ready to nest again and chucked that shits, who knows. But I have no where else to put the young. Have also got one with one splayed leg, Anyone have any advise because I am pulling my hair out here with worry.

    Cute little babies Patches,
  25. No Macka 2 nest had their first eggs fertile and the other one doesn't but I still have at least 4 eggs in each nest fertile, so I am pretty happy with that as long as they all hatch.
