Totally Heart Broken. Hen Just Killed Her Partner
Kas I am so p.. Off I have been so upset all morning, with everything else going on. I just can't beleive that hen, she is going. I do not trust her anymore. Last year a nice lt green spangle cock died in her breeding box, He had a tiny bit of blood on his head, it looked like a blood feather but she had a bit of blood on her beak, So I wasn't really sure. BUT yes she probably did murder that one too. It seems she goes done for her first clutch and then when you try to seperate her and it doen't matter how long because she was out in the avairy for a while, she just mustn't like her new partners. but they were doing it yesterday (I was purving) They looked fine, BUT she must of got the shits up last night or early this morning and Bang. Thanks for your hugs etc really need them at the moment. I really truley loved the cock and I was really looking forward to showing soon.

Totally Heart Broken. Hen Just Killed Her Partner
I am totally heart broken, I am really having a crappy year for breeding. Can't beleive what's happening I have this rotten little yellow double factor spangle, sorry for calling her rotten but I am so upset. Well I had her on her own in the breeding cage for 7 days, then put in my very favorite grey spangle (that I bred last year and both parents are dead now and I got 1st at the bird show out of 6 other birds), Well they were getting along like a house on fire for 3 days and I went out there before to give them their soft food and to my shock she was covered in blood and find my boy on the floor near the gate trying to excape, DEAD. This is him hear is in my signitue photo also.

Another Sick Bird
This little fellow was born 17 of April, I don't know if he has the same as the others, but I found me out in the baby flight coughing his head off. he is the same age as the ones I have already lost. I have isolated him and rang the vet again. This is on going and driving me nuts. Has any one had any birds coughing, I think it could be a sign of sour crop but he has no stuff coming out of his mouth. Has anyone got any advise. :excl:

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Mostly likely Kas. But the vet Dr Doug Black said from what I sent him there was really nothing there but the dark blood, No bacteria, but like he said there is something but he needs another bird. The secretary told me if it died on the weekend itwould be no good for him as I would of had to feeze it. But doug told me because it died Sunday I could of put her in thr fridge down the bottom then posted her over, but he did say that some of the things he would of been looking for might of been ruined by then. So he wants a fresh dead bird and he will autopsy it with Greg and I there explaining each step to what he finds. But he said with Mega bacteria birds don't die as fast as these ones have, he said they noramlly eat crazely and linger on for weeks even months before they die. But he is not crossing it out yet. :hap: But will keep you all informed. Oh he also said because it seems to be attacking the ones that are going through their first molt, they have got some infection which could be quite small but because they are molting it is taking it's toll on them. Because all the younger ones are fine. It seems to be once they start the molt BANG, they're down and gone.

Nesting In The Aviary
I wouldn't worry to much Stuart, my hens seem to go in and out all day but they still hatch. Have you got other hens in there that can fight over the nest? :hap: But if she is sitting on them at night she must be sitting in the day too.

We Have Mousies
I have 3 mouse traps and ratsak in my breeding room, caught one micy about a month ago but nothing since. :hap: SO FAR. Have been lucky, haven't seem any evidence of any mice in the flights YET.

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Hi Guys, just spoke to the vet but nothing conclusive yet. He is now waiting on another bird to die so he can do the autopsy. But he has three things in mind because the samples we sent over were blood in the lower intesine, which was the black tarry stuff, but the intestines had no bacteria at all. but he did say it can hide up higher in the stomach. He also needed to see the spleen. :hap: But he is looking at coccidiosis which he is putting them on Trimidine Powder. The second is comendia ( can't spell) which is a differnet treatment and the 3rd was something like polmoli something any way there is no treatment for this one, he said it just takes its coarse. I will have to get Greg to ring him later seems he won't be able to understand what I wrote. But he does suspect mega but wants me to treat the coccidiosis first. I do not know if all this will make much sense to you all, seems I have it a bit muddled.

Bird With Hole In Skull
I agree with Kas, and most times when there has been a bird attacked you can tell how did it by the blood on them, which is normally the beak and bib.

Using More Than One Male:
Yeh Norm good luck, I'm sure she'll come good. I had a hen last year, put her in with a young male and she was that much of a hussy they were at it by the time the cage door closed, couldn't believe it. She ended up having 6 feritle eggs but she died sitting on them but I did find her in time and put the eggs under another hen and all six eggs hatch, WASN"T THAT WAS LUCKY
-
Using More Than One Male:
Your lucky Norm the hen didn't attack the new Male. I have never tryed that, meaning taking a cock bird away and replacing it with another. I was led to believe that a hen needs a few days on her own before introducing a different cock. Your hen hen must be a bit of a hussy, (Laughing out loud)

Disaster In The Baby Aviary
Sick bird died Sunday at 4o'clock, it was a slow painful death. Horrible to watch. Greg did an Autopsy and found that she had slight pneumonia on one lung and she had the diarrhea, a tarry like droppings, in the autopsy she had a lot of tarry like stuff in intesine. We sent the intesine and the tarry like substance to the vet (bird) in Moama. we get results tomorrow. But in the mean time have them on the Funglin tablets Daz. I you sure it is the same treatment as Mega. Will keep you all updated when I hear more but there are 3 more birde looking crook. :ausb:

What's The Difference
Yes Daz there is sooo much to learn, I have a big proplem sometimes soaking it all in. But gee Daz you seem to be learning heaps ,as you have passed a through things on to me. Thanks heaps for your help. :dbb1:

What's The Difference
I just read this for the first time Daz and the first thing I noticed is what the judge said judging for spangle, They mark you heavily now for no bulls eye throat spots and wings should have edge makings around them. As for the grey if you put that with a double factor, then the off spring with a normal you will improve those markings. I am learning heaps about spangle as that is what we are specializing in . Most judges don't like opaline spangles either.
