  1. It ia a lovely cage, but a budgie needs alonger cage rather than higher one keep looking, have you thought of making one. I am very handy and have made all my breeding, hospital and carry cages also bought show kits and made them. Some pet shops sell wire fronts. Or you could use would and wire mesh, But then if you want it for inside a full wire bought one would look more attractive I quess. Just a thought. :budgiedance:
  2. Kas he one lovely bird, I hope you do well with him on the weekend. :ygbudgie:
  3. My Partner Greg agrees with you but i just wanted to try it but every time I try to do it, it ends up smelling a bit and I through it out because i don't want to make my birds sick. He also reckons that egg effects there liver or kidney one orthe other, so I don't know :excl: I am in Nathalia Victoria, where do you buy mung beens, I do use avicleans. thanks for your advice.

  7. Hi there, Can any breeder give me some advice What soft food to feed my breeding birds besides budgie starter and what grains do you use soaked as I want something I can soak overnight then feed them the next day, as I have tried soaking white millet (no good) also tired soaking mix grain still no good, meaning I would rinse it out but it all ways smells so I wouldn't feed it to my birds. White millet is surpose to bring the bird into a molt well i don't won't that. Ray Wilson told me today that he soaks 'tric a cali' spelt wrong but that's how it sounds. but I tried to buy it and they only sell it in bulk 25tonns ha. So please anyone with advice please let me know. :excl:
  8. Hi, this is my young Yellow Face Opaline Hen, Type 1 think as she has no yellow running through her wings etc. She is a good size bird for hen. WOOPS this was meant to go in the OPALINE part that I was reading made a mistake sorry

No not anymore, Greg made me thin them out, so I only have the best left. You see if I keep them all there is no room for improvement and I am breeding to improve and show. It realy hurts when you have to part with something you have bred and loved but all mt birds go to realy good homes. I haven't realy counted them lately but there is about 40 Adult birds and 22 babies but you see there will be over 80 birds by the time I finish breeding, I haven't put last years birds down yet. :rip:

Yes I agree, when my hens lay I number the eggs as they lay them, and then I hardly touch them as too much handling is not realy good as you can past germs from nest to nest< with out reading my book I can't realy tell what it is called but it is a bacteria type thing. So I just shine my torch in at the eggs and most times I can tell if they are fertile or not. Sometimes I have had eggs that look clear but they end up hatching, so yes just leave them alone and let the hen do her job. You will be surprised at wonderful it all is. :rip:

Congratulations Daz, its a great feeling when you just get 1st prize but to get Champion is out of this world. I can't wait for my next show, we don't have may around here, have to travel to Melbourne where there is heaps but I'm a sook and can't drive in Melbourne and Greg won't take as he thinks is too far to travel, it is about 3hrs plus from here. :rip:

If you are breeding young ones to be shown, you should put a grey with an Albino as when you put blue you can get the blue sheen coming through on the young, As I has been breeding Albinos for a while but have decided no more as I haven't got a normal grey cock of quality to go with my Albino hen, she needs a realy good cock bird to improve as she is not so great even though she is an Allan Rowe bird and cost $120.00. and what I have got out of her has been dissapointing. BUT Feathers I am sure I am right about the grey and not blue.

Due to the lack of decent blue birds, recently at a budgie auction extravagant prices were being bid and paid for pretty ordinary blue birds, not really of any show quality or size at all....just because they were blue and hard to find. Have you any photos of your bird room and aviary ? I will take some and post them soon maybe not today, my breeding room is small i have 14 breeding cages and 6 holding cages for my young. But The room does the job I would like it to be much bigger, but I don't think Greg would be in it, as he reckons it's big enough. BUT is is building me an new avairy which will be attached to it shortly. Yes I new about the sale auction, I lived in Bendigo for 10 years being back here for 2yrs. All the breeders around here went and tried to sell their birds, Ron Blizzard, Ian Furness I think, J Orlandi, Ron Wilson, Ken Pullan that I know of. Yes we had ours on th 13th, I am in the Riverina Club, might change to Kyabram soon.

Hi everyone, Yesterday we went to Echuca and my partner bought me 4 new birds for my breeding lot as I felt I needed some improvement on what I had. But the funny thing was, we have been waiting for the last 2 months for 2 other breeders to ring but we got sick of waiting so I got 4 beautiful birds yesterday and last night the phone rang and guess what one of those breeders rang and I am getting a pair on Saturday, We have six mature birds which have been to the Nationals to choose from ( all spangles) WOW I can't wait. So here are some photos of my new birds, which are now been kept seperated from the other birds for period of time. Dk Green Spangle cock, this one cost my partner $85.00 he is still winging, because he thinks what we have is just as good, we paid for the pedigree. because pedigree is Henry George line. By the way when he blows his head its' a wow factor. DK Green Spangle Cock. this cock does the same Lt Green Cinn Opaline Hen http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s230/sp...nopalinehen.jpg Lt green Opaline Hen http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s230/sp...tgreenophen.jpg I will post more photos of the pair I get at the weekend, :budgiedance: ***MODERATORS MESSAGE sorry had to change your last two photos to links as they were too large for our 450 by 450 requirements ****
  17. splat replied to **KAZ**'s post in a topic in Breeders Discussion
Gee Kaz that is realy sad to loose so many little birds, everytime I go out to my breeding room I hope that I don't see a little one dead, which does happen time to time, like at the moment I have 19 young babies, I have lost 7 through parents squashing or not feeding, they were between 1 -2 days old but I was soo upset. I have 2 realy nice babies at the moment that are showing real show quality, big in size long bibs one is an opaline with the best v my partner has seen in 7 yrs or so he reckons. So I am real hopeful at the moment. They are out of a bird which we thought was infertile. REAL excited I hope all your birds recover and get back to perfect health. Cheers Julie
  18. Hi everyone, I thought i would put my bit in. I use Golden Cob breeders choice and I add 25% extra canary for my breeders and when no one is breeding they just get the golden cob straight. I like it because it looks like a nice mix and it doesn't have much or any oats in it. Which all the other feeds I have used did. I like to add my own oats so I can control how much they get, and they only get it in the cold months and when breeding but not much of it as it tends too make them fat.

I use Calcivet and Aviclens for the water both products from Veta Farm which you can look up on the internet and jion or just order and I also use Avi-mite which is vitamins and minerals & amino acid supplement in their water a couple times aweek I also use mineral supplement from golden cob in my breeding cages which is powder form i put this in finger draws and they eat it if they need it.

  25. Yes the foster mothers have babies from other nest, I have 2 young hens ( 13 and 14 months old) that won't feed their young so they are under the foster parents, there is 6 in one nest and 5 in the other, and the two hens plucking have 4 and 5. so you see my dilema Thanks I have done that now but I could only do to one nesy as the other one has a slide up door at the front, I did slide the perspex in but the hen wouldn't go in the nest I think it looks too open for for. I will let you know if it works. Thanks Daz I will try that
