  1. Yes I agree with Kaz and Dave, you know your birds better than anyone, So do and treat as best as possible, I think the sulpha is the right choice at the moment. Good luck Gb :thankyou:
  2. Sorry Gb but yes, I was devastated over it, She looked fine then she just got worse over a few days poos were normal the whole time. She ate well until the day before she died. She had plenty of weight on her body and keel until the day before she passed. i thought I killed her because of the heat in the hospital cage because she went it fine just not quite right and then after a few days it looked like she had a stroke as she couldn't balance probably. She looked like she was drunk. This hen was the full sister to my white boy and they both won champion cock and opposite sex adult birds in show at Riverina , so you can see how it devasated me. The judge at Ky said she was a beautiful hen but she palyed up that day and she was dead 6 weeks later.
  3. do you have the flap disc, makes life easier :thankyou:
  4. sorry don't know, but my hen sounded similar and she was eating too , good luck with her :thankyou:
  5. Do you give them soft food? if so maybe there is food caked up there in the top beak which can deform the beak if not removed. Compared to the others does the top beak look unusually small or does the bottom beak look longer than it should. Do you give your birds calcium?
  6. That's what my white DF spangle hen was like, but sorry GB have no idea. Are you sure she is eating and not just grinding the food, is there food in her crop?
  7. Sorry I did't relise that there were other chicks in the nest. Yes I would leave her there, the hen she feed her, I find when they have others in the nest and they don't feed one that there must be something wrong with it, So nature takes it course if that's the case. But I hope it makes it.
  8. You can try her but keep an eye on her to make sure she does feed it. If you do it in the morning and the chick has food in the crop by the arvo you should be right with her, but if empty put the chick back where it came from. Some hens are just bad mothers.
  9. What I do with chicks that hatch and aren't fed is .... I put a chick in the nest that is a bit older . I have 2 nest at the moment which are first time mums, One nest hatched a chick 4 days ago and it died from not being fed. So I put a chick in her nest that was 5 days old and she fed it and when her chick hatch 2 days later she fed it too so that nest is all good now, the older chick has been returned to it's origional nest. The other nest a chick hatched today and it wasn't fed so I did the same thing. I always put bigger chick in that is bi enough to crys for a feed which forces the hen to feed it and I like them to be big enough so the hen doesn't squash it too. So if you have a chick a few days old even older up to about 7 days should be okay.
  10. They look wierd. They are prickly too.
  11. Have look at my link Gb, http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=22974 Most of my nest have concaves , 2 don't and i much prefer the concaves than none. But it's up to the individual breeder.
  12. No car still. It is all finished and running like a dream but they have stuffed the drivers window up, it won't go up or down. When I called in earlier to see how it was going Bluey couldn't work out why . agggrhh. I need my car. As soon as I get it I am going to Shepp because I am having withdrawal symtems being carless.
  13. Did a bit more work late his arvo. But I need Greg to dig out some more lucerne because I can't. Jake was much better behaved this arvo too as I turned my back on him heaps, I think he is learning, I am a cranky old so and so, I even told Greg off for letting Jake jump up on him after me growling at Jake all day.
  14. My nest boxes are deep and I have concaves and I have no problem with them.
  15. is that what you do with them, glad you enjoyed CW
  16. Still NO CAR. I am getting really annoyed. It has been 41/2 weeks NOW. Getting grumpy. Hate been stranded. Feel like pulling my hair out. They told me Monday late or Tuesday morning and now it is Thursday aggrrhh
  17. Really exciting. Lots of pinkies
  18. Well dean I just found one of my best hen, daughter of my yellow DF sp egg bound, well I think it is worse than that. She was on 3 eggs with 1st one fertile and then bang. I was excited about this nest as she was with my white Df spangle, brother to Kaz and so far I have only got one chick from him this year, I think I over showed him, he won me everything. The mating was a half brother half sister and I was hoping for something really good. I transfered the eggs.
  19. Tell me about it, I am growing to ahte him, all the to the birdroom and back 3 times under my feet and jumping up on me, I stopped and did that turn around and with arms crossed and it does work until I look at him and he starts again. I really don't remember my cavs been like this. This is what I did yesterday, the wood is 3 mt 15 each piece. You can see that some lucerne is still in the way. you can see the yukky broadbeans there too This is a yukky choko The rain has stopped work again. But need to put packing sand under the frame wood before cementing
  20. Sorry not good news at all but do you Have another nest to put them Dean? they still could be saved
  21. I agree with everything Jeff said, Totally I would love that violet and I wouldn't mind the hen either. I don't get much for my birds but last year I did get good money, for one of my violet brothers ( the weaker one of the 3).
  22. Worked on it yesterday for a while, got really angry because the lucerne is deep rooted, I couldn't dig it out or pull it or anything it was so hard and the puppy kept getting in the way so got annoyed. BUT I have done most of it. Aready to lay down some packing soil. BUT the rain has come again. aggrhh
  23. Thanks for the help Squeak and Rachelm, I have been saying no firmly and also ignoring him and that does work he goes off and does his own thing. For Obedience I hope Greg does.
  24. Just off the top of my head without checking records, around 9 chicks hatched, 4 of which hatched weak after having to battle dry membranes + the mishap = 4 live chicks at the conclusion of all possible hatches. 37 eggs, 4 chicks. Usually it would be the other way around for me -> 37 eggs, 4 DEAD (33 alive and fledge). Go the 'better' quality birds It will improve Dean
  25. I think I am going to rename the dog Annoying. Trouble or something Jake is annoying soooo much, besides him pooping all over the lawn that i seem to be picking up and jumping on me all the time. I am trying to teach him not to jump but Greg lets him so the lesson is ruined I am trying to level off the ground to frame my cementing for the birdroom and he is under my feet all the time. He just lays where the shovel is about to land, silly puppy. Gee before went to step backwards and the little sausage was there so of course I fell on my backside.aggrhh Hard too. I came inside cursing and stuff. Greg will have to tie him up when we do the cement because he will just ruin it. Greg is telling everyone he is growing on me and he is our baby but I secretly want him gone I really don't want a puppy or dog. I was really quite happy with out one, no poops, no falls (by me). etc I actually hate dogs jumping on people. okay had my winge :yuck: BUT I don't really feel much better, I WANT MY CAR BACK. that might cheer me UP. IT has been 4 and 3 days now
