When I realised that my little Lemon required to go on a diet, I cut down on her seed rations to only about two teaspoon a day with a lot more fresh veggies. she went to town with the fresh vegs once she's demolish her daily ration of seed. She lost about 15 grams over a period of about one month. she's still on the 'big' side, but she's okay now, she can fly without puffing out and will actually move around instead of just sitting on top of the curtain rail like she used to when she's out of her cage.
  2. yeah my birds love them too.
  3. Riebie, I'm so sorry ou have to go through that with little Bobby, but he sure is one very handsome fellow.. If I was him, I'd fall in love with myself.. sorry.. hehe He sure is funny though, trying to chat even when Sherbie is trying to eat.

I don't really know about products that provide vitamin D... I think the best and easiest way really is to take them outside, or even just leaving them by an open window or door (with screen of course) when the sun is shining in. That's how my cockatoo gets his sunlight everyday, his cage is positioned by the door so that in the afternoon when I get home, I open the door and sunlights comes through. Oh make sure that there are there are no glass in between. sunlight through the glass is useless for birds. as with full spectrum lighting, I'm not too sure how much they are, I hear they can get quite expensive pending on what you're looking for? and I think a lot of people actually leave it on all day long? I'm not sure. don't quote me on that one as I haven't looked into it myself since I don't use it.
  5. haha, I don't need to breed.. I get all my babies from bubbles! well no not all, so far I have three, and one is coming, hopefully this Friday.. Although I'm thinking of breeding one pair that I think would make beautiful babies (light grey opaline spangle and YF2 cobalt spangle)... and this is for the joy of watching little white eggs turning into pink blobs into pin cushions into beautiful gentle budgies! I'm afraid that if I start with one pair, I want to do it more... but I'll need to watch it as I won't have the space to keep them all and I would want to keep them all!! (Laughing out loud)
  6. well I work with youth in high school running seminars and organising youth events and all that within the state of Western Australia. So with all our equipments required for the events, we pretty much have to drive everywhere with the trailer, or bus it. I've up to Kununurra once, broome twice, and all over up that way a fair bit as well. Been to Esperance three time and all down south. The only place I haven't really been is east.. the furthest east I've been is about three hours to Merredin.

I think it's 10minutes per day. I take all my inside budgies (4) lump into a small cage (the cage is about 8 inch by 10inch by 14 inch I know it's small, but they are only in it for a very brief period of time). I take them outside for a half an hour or so every two to three days. They get vitamin D from natural sunlight, and this help with the absorbsion of calcium. so very important to breeding females. If you can't get them outside, you can get full spectrum light that stimulates similar ray to sunlight. but not as good as normal natural sunlight.
  8. you know, I do 8 hours trips (one way) for work all the time!! It is'nt too bad.. just make a road trip out of it.. it'll all be worth it in the end.
  9. yep, I agree with Terri, cobalt normal hen. :hap: She still has her baby bars on the forehead, so I'd say that she'd be less then four months old.

  12. aww, that Blink sure knows how to press mommy's buttons... it sounds like he may have may be knicked a bit of his foot, so tiny that you can't really see it? like may be it was irritating him to have pressure on it, but because it's a tiny knick, it's okay now? I hope it's nothing major.
  13. Don't worry Otis, Mommie is coming very soon!!! I am going to name him Otis if you don't mind since I have another chrissy pressie named Milo.. so now I'll have Milo and Otis... hopefully both boys.

well my understanding of a goldenface is that the face are tend to be more brilliant yellow, and also the body colour becomes more green than blue.
  15. Yeah my double factor dom pied has only one iris ring. it's really cool... Meet my little Spirit Right side close up of eye Left side Close up of eye Edit...Actually I must add... after looking at my Spirit very closely in the sunlight, his eye is not actually completely dark... in comparison to a recessive pied where the eyes are completely dark, Spirit's 'dark' eye if you look real close in the sunlight, you'll see a very very very faint outline of the iris ring, but it's not very visible out of bright light at all. So it looks like theres no iris rings.
