Thankyou everyone from the bottom of my heart for your lovely messages. You have no idea just how much it means to me to know you all care so much, my head is spinning already - dont know how I'll cope next week. I'll have a house full of relatives from Qld, 2 funerals and Dad's operaton in Sydney on Satuday. I suppose I'll manage somehow!!

Sad news - my auntie passed away today. She had been quite sick for a long time so at least now she is in a better place and free of pain and suffering. More sad news - a friend of mine who I met at a sewing class years ago was killed along with her daughter in a car accident. She apparently turned onto the main road and failed to see a semi trailer coming. I only saw her yesterday, didnt get to chat but we smiled and waved to each other - now she is gone. :sad: :sad: :sad: :sad:

My parents are in their late 70's and have always been in excellent health - but Mum rang tonight with some worrying news. My father has an anurism in his stomach He will be having an operation to repair it Saturday week and will be in hospital for a week or so and will then need 6 weeks rest to recouperalte. This sort of news really brings home how much your family means to you when there is risk of losing them. You realise they wont be around for ever, and every moment with them is precious. Mum then went on to tell me her sister is not expected to live much longer. She has been in a nursing home since she contracted a brain infection years ago and now her body is starting to shut down. How much worse can a day get??

When I found a snake had made a home under my aviary someone suggested I attach a hose from the car exhaust down into their burrow. I didnt end up doing but it would be effective with rats I would imagine!!!

Just wondering about their beaks, how do you go about trimming them back to normal??

Hi Maesie! Firstly let me congratulate you on getting a unit! I must have missed a few posts, I knew you were looking but didnt know you found a place!! Both appliances look great. I have a lot of LG products and I've never had a problem with any of them. Samsung are also a great brand so I'm sure you wont be dissapointed with your fridge. I am a huge fan of Ebay and there are huge savings to be had if you are lucky to find things in your area!! Happy moving!!

One of my new hens has laid 2 eggs so far but the eggs are a bit different to the usual shape. They both come to a rather noticable point at one end! I have never seen this before in budgies, I am hoping they will still be okay and will hatch into normal chicks?? Will try and get a photo tomorrow to show you.

Oh Rah, I'm so sorry! As I said before it is very very hard to keep them alive at such a young age, even for the experts.You did your absolute best for the little guy and that's all you can do. Hugs to you and your family

Well my aviary has been put on hold for a little while, my partners daughter-in-law's father passed away last week from cancer so we are busy helping organize the funeral, doing cooking for the family etc. Hopefully it wont be too long before we finally get to finish it - it's so close!!

Congrats Deb!!! Sometimes it takes the hen a couple of hours before they feed their newly hatched chick, so dont panic yet!!

I would say it's a hen also. Of all the chicks I have handled only the hens bite me!!

Roudybush Formula 3. I always have it on hand for the Ringnecks and the vet said it would be fine for the budgies as well. What do you think of it? What do you use? I have never used Roudybush but have heard that its really good. For newly hatched chicks I normally use Neocare by Vetafarm (I think). It has all the essential vitamins and minerals for tiny babies. But as your bird is thriving I would stick with Roudybush. Some breeders say to mix a small amount of natural yogurt in with the handrearing mix but I have never done it. Thanks. I don't think I'll try the yogurt, just in case I messed it up and it hurt bub... Yes I agree, but it does contain a lot of goodness - probiotics, which is almost the same as the hen's "milk". (A bit like human babies having colostrum from their mums)

Usually I candle the eggs about 5 -6 day after the hen started incubating them. You should be able to see veins developing by then. Hope they're fertile!! You're right - she is a beautiful bird!!
