  1. OMG! Budgies need to be at least 12months old before they breed! A budgie that is 9 months old is still a baby!
  2. If they have already bred twice this year they need to have a long rest. Most breeders only breed their budgies twice a year at the most. How old are your birds?
  3. Try again Norm, I have re-sized it, it was too large
  4. When I was little I told my mum all I ever want to be is a grandma! Well I wont be one (hopefully) for a while yet with a 15 and a 13 year old! But growing up I wanted to be a nurse or a vet but as I didnt study enough at school I'm neither!
  5. Thanks everyone. My wonderful partner built these aviaries for me a few years ago! Am I spoilt or am I spoilt?? :hap:
  6. No worries melbournebudgies! My pair have an aviary all to themselves!
  7. Thanks Liv. Your tiels are so cute!
  8. My first pair of cockatiels have just started to breed and have 2 eggs already. Just wondering if there's any special requirements for them during the breeding season. I am presuming they will need the usual things like fruit, veg, cuttlefish, etc. I have put Calcivet in their water, anything else??
  9. Thought so Kaz! I'm learning!!
  10. I need everyone's help again please! Can you tell me if this chick is a girl or boy? I'm thinking girl......
  11. Wow! I've never had a dad do that before! But then again Kaz, all your birds are special!!
  12. Thanks Liv, I really hope so too! This is the first time my pair of YF Blues have bred !
  13. Thanks John and Swanacilli I have my fingers crossed I wont have any more losses.
  14. Hi Neat I put the other one back with a foster mother as I didnt want to risk losing his too. He is going well and is being fed.But while I was at work this afternoon another one hatched from the original nest and she has fed it so I will be keeping an eagle eye on her. Actually I have two new bubs hatch today!! New bubs puts a smile on our faces :hap: They sure do Kaz! When ever I have a bad day all I need to do is spend time with my birds and their chicks and all is well!! :hap: :hap:
  15. No 4 arrived this afternoon while I was at work - plus I put another baby under the mother from an inexperienced hen that wasnt doing such a good job keeping them warm. So all up there's 5 under her with 2 eggs yet to hatch. :hap:
  16. Hi Libby When I bought this pair, I never thought they would breed as readily as they do! They are absolutely stunning and I love them very much!! My pair are about 4-5 years old. Im not exactly sure how long they breed for but I would imagine it would be for a few more years yet! They live longer than humans I am told!!

  18. Hi Libby - yes I will be handrearing this lot. (The photo is from last years clutch) They are just checking the nest out at the moment!! They make wonderful pets, I keep in touch with one particular woman who bought one and she says he is almost human! She has ordered another from me this year as well!!
  19. Thanks Maesie, I had tossed and turned about putting him back with his mother and ultimately made the wrong decision. She is sitting on 4 more eggs so we'll see what happens with them. I was cold last night but the hen sits on the nest 24/7 and I have a light on for them so if they do get scared off for some reason they can easily find their way. I will put it down to bad luck and fingers crossed the rest will be okay.
  20. You bet Elly!! I will keep a journal of them with pics!! Here is a photo taken last year of my Major Mitchell in the nest log Their 3 babies
  21. I was devastated this morning when I checked on my babies. The chick in the photo (Karma -named by Kaz) had died during the night. There wasnt any food in its crop so that stupid @#$#@ of a mother hadnt fed him. I put his sibling in with another hen so it doesnt suffer the same fate. I dont get it - they were fine yesterday and had full crops?

Hi and welcome to the forum!! Have you got any pics of your birds? We love photos on this forum!!
  23. Must be something in the air up here as my first pair of cockatiels I've ever owned have started to breed with one egg so far! Then next door to them is my pair of Major Mitchells which were checking the next box out!! So I'm going to be inundated with chicks of all sizes in just a few short weeks!!!! :budgiedance:
  24. Good news! Another chick from this clutch hatched last night and has been fed! So I might put the first baby back in with his mum and dad and see what happens.
  25. Yes Libby I thought that too. I heard him chirping inside the egg probably 36 hours before he actually hatched. Hope he makes it!
