  1. Thanks Kaz and Maesie, I will travel safely. As I said in a PM to Maesie, a death in the family makes you sit back and realise just how precious everyone is and teaches you not to take anyone for granted. I saw my uncle at Christmas and spent the afternoon reminiscing about days gone by, it was a very relaxed atmosphere and will treasure our memories together forever. Although he is gone from this world he will live in my heart forever, and will see him in the next world!!
  2. Well I did intend taking some more recent photos of my babies but I will be away for a few days as my uncle passed away and will be travelling all day tomorrow for the funeral. But will try very hard to take some pics as soon as I get back.
  3. How's the cage construction going Phoebe?? Be sure to take a picture once its all completed!!
  4. I once put some king parrot eggs under a budgie (as the hen laid them but wouldnt incubate them). The budgie did a wonderful job but 24 hours after they hatched she realised "hey, these arent my babies!" and proceeded to attack them. Lucky I was there to rescue them as she would have definately killed them. I reared them myself and grew into very tame gorgeous birds. I would think twice about doing it again unless I am there to get them out of the nest once they hatch.
  5. Maybe the shop could take a photo of it for you and email it to you??
  6. What excellent photos Denise!!! I love the newest one's little egg tooth!!
  7. I will never learn - here I was thinking it was a cock bird. (Will have to study your 'cere post' a lot harder!)
  8. I've taken a real shine to the opaline spangle, he is so quiet! He wanders around the computer desk and is very inquisitive! I only started handling him yesterday!
  9. Well here are my three oldest babies!! Would you say the first and third chicks are spangles?? http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../jimminy017.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g212/jen.../jimminy019.jpg
  10. I'm happy to report that none of them have the dreaded French Moult, the bare patches I could see was just where the feathers hadnt grown yet - silly me!- I had a real blonde moment!!!
  11. drunk old men!
  12. My babies are now 4 weeks old and are absolutely gorgeous. I took the 3 eldest ones out and brought them up inside for a little while. They had a nibble at some seed and a drink of water. They are fairly tame already! Will take some pics in the morning to show them off!!
  13. Hi Deb, we live in Muswellbrook but have no where near the amount of rain you have had. My birds are quite happy all snug and warm in their breeding cabinets in our shed!!

  17. I hope these photos are better - I took them outside without the flash!!! They're still not the best but its very difficult holding the bird in one hand and camera in the other!!
  18. I dont feel so bad now Kaz! I feel like I should be able to tell their sex by now after having budgies all my life, but no - I cant! Not till they get older anyway!
  19. okay :budgiedance:
  20. Sorry 'bout that! I cant work out how to turn the flash off, (it comes on automatically if needed). Will have to wait till tomorrow to take another photo when I figure this @#@#@** camera out!!!
  21. I have taken some new pics - still think its a girl?? What colour ceres do the baby cock birds usually have??
  22. I am taming this 4 week old chick for a friend of mine but wants to make sure she gets a male. Just by going his temperament I would say its a boy but I am hopeless at sexing young budgies, can someone out there help me??

So sorry you have lost some of your gorgeous birds. I detest rats, mice and frogs!!!!! Fingers crossed for you that you find and "dispose" of the rat very very soon!!!!
  24. Hi Kaz, the enclosed area has a concrete floor and we put some wire on the floor in the flight area. So fingers crossed we dont have a problem with mice or rats or I will run a mile!!!! :fear We've had the few odd mice here and there around the larger aviaries but no major problem.
  25. We did some more work on the aviary today and its looking good! I have taken some photos for you all to see the progress from last week. Rain has slowed us down again, so probably wont be able to do any more work till next weekend due to work committments. (Notice my foremen -the dogs, checking everythings to their specifications!)
