I was wondering about natural branches being used on those tiered perches. I've only ever seen dowel used. I guess it might be difficult to find branches that long of varying circumfrances... Dowel perches are not bad unless that is all you provide, as long as your provide a variety of perches in your aviary/cage then that is what is most important.

If you bring inside birds outside in a cage/or larger aviary, always make sure there is a lock on the cage for their safetly, keep the top covered and make sure they are never in direct sun light, it is okay that they are outside on a hot day wild budgies live in the heat but make sure that our pet friends have fresh water at all times and are always in the shade, they should never be left outside unsupervised either.

Many sick birds won't stand on 1 leg if she is still doing that then that is a good sign, I hope she recovers okay for you.

I has been advised to not have one bird in the cage and the other one out hopping around because birds will normal peck at the toes like this. My advise is that if they are going to be like this to cover the cage with a sheet so the toes don't go through and noone's feet can be pecked at. I would continue the cover time and just wait it out if it gets bad you may have to separate in 2 cages, most birds do get along but there are the occasion where 2 must be separated for housing because 1 is bullying and hurting the other one.
  16. they are beautiful but it hard to do the mutations when the birds are not upright in the photos they look like they are having the fun. The first picture is an opaline Yellow Face Type 2 Sky Blue looking to carry the violet gene because it has the hue around the neck, this tell you that the Cock is split to Opaline so you may want to put that down for your records. The second picture looks like a Yellow Face type 2 Dominant Pied Cobalt Violet The upside down one is also a Yellow Face Type 2 Dominant Pied Cobalt Violet
  17. beautiful, and thank you for getting this post started when I have the moment to get into my photobucket I will post my kitties too

  20. If I bred a Skyblue/Violet yf1 with a Mauve Normal/Rec. Pied, I'd get %50 YF1 and %50 Normals, right? What colours would they be, Cobalt/Violets? You would have 50% Violet Cobalts, 50% Cobalt if the Violet is a Single Factor but if a Double Factor Violet you would have 100% Violet Cobalts. You would get no Sky Blues since the Mauve is 2 Dark Factors and would give each chick 1 dark factor. You would have 100% normals unless the Normal is split to recessive pied and then you would have a 50% chance of Rec. Pieds. 50% YF1 and 50% Normal White Faces And a Skyblue/Violet Clearflight Pied Opaline Spangle with a YF2 Cobalt/Violet recessive Pied, I'd get %100 split for Rec. Pied, lots of Clearflight Pieds, Spangles, and YF2's, (don't know what percentages) and various combinations of those, and all of them would be either Cobalt/Violet SF or DF, am I right? Is the opaline the female if so all the males would be split to opaline but if it is an opaline cock then any opalines would be hens. 50% Spangles, 50% normals Recessive Pied only if the other bird is also split for Rec. Pied and it would then be a 50% chance 50% Clearflight Pieds, 50% Normals Yellowface 2 50% unless Double Factor then 100% single factor YF2 50% sky blues, 50% cobalt Violets 50% chance on either color OR 100% if it is Double Factor Violet on either color okay, and with all these they can be combined mutations example you can have a Clearflight Opaline Skyblue Violet .

  24. Kaz, your aviary work is so impressive, so many members who are reading through this thread are going to have great ideas on how to get their aviary started and completed. Good job and I know Ken you are doing so much of the work you both are ingenius.
