Parakeet Or Budgie ?
Krosp you said it best...I am sure if we got all the countries in the world on this forum that there would be many different descriptions, titles etc...for what a parakeet is. This is not just for birds but for anything around the world we all speak different, we label things differently. Even in the U.S the northern states speak and use different labels then the southern states. In fact, just the way we say hello to others is different..you don't see American's saying cheers to people on a normal basis but in another country you would that is okay!! Right Sure there will always be the 1 person that is upset that someone doesn't label the budgie (which I know them as) correctly but so if I said you want a pop and the person said you mean a soda should I get ticked ...of course not. I think this post was just meant to be information only. This could be very well true in your eyes for sure but in our eyes we could say the same thing about AU or another country. I believe we need to respect that we all have different ways to say things from all over the world and because we see mainly AU and US on this forum we can't say educatedly that we are the only country that does this right? I am sure every country has labels and saying that they have switched around for different things all the time. I am sure it is not just budgies that get confused on where the lineage has started...and probably could go talk to some dog, cat breeders and they would say the same thing. Do you know how annoying it is when they tell me that Cabela is a miniature doberman when in fact he is NOT and that they were not bred from Doberman's at all but the German Pinscher if I got upset everytime someone said look at the cute min dobie I would have stroked out already. I used to explain it now it isn't even worth it because when I start with well the German Pinscher is the Grandfather and it was split into 3 different groups...they fade out and look at me like I am crazy - maybe I am but I post this as an example that it happens not just with budgies but with all different breeds of animals.

2 Different Dominant Pieds
okay well hes paired up with the violet rec pied hen , so im not going to split them up . if hes double factor would i get any double factor dom pieds or will they all be sf dom pied ? If he is a double factor you will have all Single Factor Dominant Pieds because Recessive Pied and Dominant Pied are 2 different genes completely, to get any recessive pied your Dominant Pied would have to be split for recessive pied. If he is a Single Factor Dominant Pied you would expect 50% normals and 50% Dominant Pieds. then mac is masking violet and the hen is visual violet so how will that factor into things ? Not sure how you know your bird is masking the violet gene? Anyways the Violet gene can be Single Factor and Double Factor. 2 Single Factor Violets = 25% DF Violets, 50% SF Violets, 25% No Violet 2 Double Factors Violets = 100% DF Violets 1 SF x 1 DF Violet = 50% DF, 50% SF Violets

Weather?
thank you all that replied it helps greatly and I can go to the links and also print out this page . I think I need to jump on a plane and go to some warm weather it was -7F this morning and my poor Cabela was out for 3 sec and literally couldn't walk and cried when he came in after he did his business, so I had to warm up his small tiny feet. I could never imagine living in Alaska or colder places...I can't even see how they could own breeds with hardly any hair.

Weather?
My son is doing an extra credit on what the weather is by you he asked if I could go to the budgie forum lol and ask others what their weather is like right now. So if you would like to help him out that would be awesome so he could take this post to school on Tuesday. He finds it amazing that AU is having summer right now . Tommorrow we have a snow day...it has been snowing but the cold has made the schools call off we have had -5 F but with the windchill it is -25 plus more snow is coming. Very bad cold snap. Here is a link to our weather from yahoo....http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/USOH0711.html Tonight: Bitterly cold. Variably cloudy with snow showers. Wind chills approaching -25F. Low near -5F. Winds WSW at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 60%. Tomorrow: Mostly cloudy with scattered snow flurries and snow showers. Very cold. Dangerous wind chills approaching -25F. High 4F. Winds WSW at 15 to 25 mph. Chance of snow 30%. Tomorrow night: A few clouds. Cold. Wind chills approaching -15F. Low -1F. Winds SW at 10 to 20 mph. Saturday: Lowering and thickening clouds. A steady snow developing as the day wears on. High near 20F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of snow 80%. Some snow accumulation possible. Sunday: Snow developing during the afternoon. Highs in the low 20s with temperatures nearly steady overnite. Monday: Snow showers possible. Highs in the low 20s and lows in the mid teens.

What Would You Get..
Ah that did make a bit more sense. But, I still don't understand this...what is yf1.. that a yf1 when bred to a normal can get yf1's, single factor and double factor, and/or normals? I mean, it's not recessive but it doesn't sound like dominant.. it's just weird..Did that made any sense? There are different genes that when doubled will erase the coloring/marking example the Spangle Gene when a bird is carrying 1 Spangle gene then you see the Spangle Markings but if the bird is carrying 2 Spangle genes then the bird will be all white or all yellow with iris rings and a blue cere this is called a Double Factor Spangle. The same exact thing happens with the Yellowface Type 1 gene, when the bird is carrying 1 YF1 gene the bird will display on a blue bird a yellow face only but if the bird is carrying 2 YF 1 genes then the yellow is erased from the face and you will have a blue bird with a yellow face. Greens can also carry the Yellow Face Gene but because they have a base color of yellow and not white it is almost impossible to tell if they are carrying the gene. I hope that makes more sense... note this does NOT apply to the YF2 gene you can have a single or double but it won't have a white face.
-
What Would You Get..
yes as long as the white face was not a double factor YF1 and was a true white face
-
Jealous Triangle?
Have you tried to increase the cover time of their cage to 12-14 hours, this can help throw off the hormones. Yes, this is common behavior.
-
What Would You Get..
YF2 is dominant over YF1 so you would have all YF2

wonderful pictures they are gorgeous, any one of your pictures would be awesome for the BBC Budgie of the Month, the last one with the recessive is extra cute.

Other Birds
no, it is never a good idea to mix budgies with other species because they can be aggressive, some do mix budgies and cockatiels but ONLY if there is enough space.

Discoloured/abnormal Feathers Around Beak
If you can lighten up your picture it may help and repost. Staining of feathers if not food related "can" be caused by the respiratory system being irriated or an infection. Merlin had this after he had stayed my my Mother In Law's because she burned candles (inspite of my warning).

Post Pictures : Of Your Cats
I can't post a picture of all my cats as I didn't have a digital camera back then but I have had quite a few enter my life. Mahria is still alive she is my 1st cat and is 17yrs old, here is a picture of her, she was a stray that we picked up when we went to visit my girlfirend in college. Pepper was my 2nd cat, I don't have any pictures of her on digital, she passed away in 2004, she was all mine and so pretty, she was black and tan - a tortishell is what they call them (that is what Mahria is too but a diluted) Jasmine, was our solid grey cat, she passed away too soon, my husband found her in his shop that he worked at when she was 4wks old, she was very skittish cat. Then there is Maxx and Mollii they are brother and sister and are my kids' cats. We got them for free in front of a drug store the lady had rescued the mom and was getting ride of the kittens that she had. Here is Mollii, she was watching Merlin through the glass Here is Maxx, sitting outside with his leash
