because he is weird....(Laughing out loud) One of the gals on the forum posted a picture of one of her tiels being fed by her female budgie. It was almost like the tiel was acting like a baby and begging for food. Do you house them together?

Oh I simply love Popcorn and Butter. Their names are perfect for their coloring. Hobbes is such a handsome boy. Jingles wow turned out to be a girl for sure. They are beautiful thank you for sharing!! Glad to have you back.

you know a lot of this could be hormonal too the nice thing of having them in a cage for sleep is that you can adjust the daylight and night hours they get and give them more if they seem to get hormonal. Also is he going through a molt? A lot of this really sounds like a hormonal budgie to be honest. When Pretty would get naughty I covered him up for an hour more it really did the trick. This is something you don't have the ability to do. I would continue ignoring the squawking and walk out. I would only talk to him when he is not squawking and reward him when you see him doing good. Punishment is one thing but even in dogs (heck kids too) they say you have to be firm BUT you need to catch them doing good things more and acknowledge it. As for should he shouldn't be in a cage. I feel it is safer for a bird to be confined at night time or when I am gone. I don't live in your home though so you need to do what you feel is best. You have given Lukie a lot of freedoms and he is a lucky and spoiled bird.

I am going to wait and see what you answer to Lukie having a cage or not? It is recommended that they do have a cage if not for confinement of safety but as Kathy said a place of their own. Let us know

Shawna I would think 2 clutches in a row is enough and you have to think about your situation (of course I know you are) and though she may be laying it means nothing if you can't take care of those babies or get them homes. You know Robin has always dealt with egg laying budgies so you may want to pm her or she will see this. I don't think because they lay eggs they want babies but they have an issue now which is common in budgie and tiels my avian vet said. It is very hard to get them to stop and very debilitating on the budgie.

You ladies are good because in the 2nd picture I can't see anything but an eye (Laughing out loud) not an iris ring. I hope you can take some closer shots of the side of her to see her eyes . I agree though she looks very lutino.

Nothing against you I just dislike that word "nasty" We must remember how the bird must feel and what it is going through. They have only been with you less then under a month, it is a strange new place and every bird takes to a situation differently. Some like your other 2 are fine and come around quickly and others feel like they need to defend or protect themselves that is okay. All birds have different backgrounds which form their personality. Birds that didn't have much human interaction will bite in fear etc... We have to remember birds are not domesticated like dogs or cats they are "wild" until tamed and form a trusting bond to a certain degree will then only show you their other side. When we learn about why they do what they do and their behavior it is better then understanded and we can then work with them. every bird is different I wouldn't be concerned unless you felt he was showing signs of illness. Watching the female play he may come around and join in the fun. Pretty and Merlin really didn't play with their toys much. Pretty liked his plastic balls and then Merlin came and he was in love (Laughing out loud). So I wouldn't be concerned. You can try different toys, rearranging the cage and such to see if anything sparks his interest.
