Petey Has Been Put In Solitary
) Is this normal??! (I thought about posting this anonymously as a guest; its that weird to me! I'll be very embarrassed if it turns out he was just preening her in a whole new way ) it is okay...budgies can do odd things and I say yes it is normal. 2) Aren't they *far* too young to be thinking about this kind of thing? 3) I think I know the answer to this one, but it seems that birds don't recognise family members the way people do? Will he mate with anything as long as it'll let him? (By The Way, I have no intention of breeding these birds, but we'd rather not see them trying while having our dinner [as hubby said earlier tonight!]) ** Yes they will mate, they haven't have a clue anymore they are siblings and if they do don't care and should not be breed. They should be over the age of at least 12 months many experience breeders wait 15-18 months. 3) My birds don't like to be on their own (sometimes they all squeeze into one cage just to be together) so I'm feeling a bit bad that he's all on his lonesome at the moment - should I just ignore the humping and let them be? **Budgies can have recreational sex but if you don't want a clutch with his sister I would stop it yes. 4) Please tell me this has happened to you! Can't say not a breeder Do I release Petey from his solitary confinement and let him play grown ups with his sister because budgies don't know any better? No I don't think that is right to let him play like this with his sister, again if you have a clutch what will you do if she lays eggs? Sister/Brother relationships in a sexual manner should be avoided. These are my personal views.

Mothering Hen Has Tapeworms
I agree how would you know if you can't see what is going on ? You need to have this diagnosised by an avian vet but taking in a sample of her poo to ensure she really has tapeworm and not somthing us. If you can not clean out the nesting box as in your other post and IF it is tapeworm they probably all have it and all need to be treated by an avian vet. You can call them and they will probably let you bring in a sample as not to disturb the babies and mother. You never mentioned the cock bird? Is he around helping the mom?

Making Natural Perches
I didn't do the bolts and screws, I believe it was Shawna who said she just layed her across and put them between the cage or aviary bars firmly. That is what I did

What Do I Do?
You have received some excellent advice about not moving the nestbox, making sure it is lower next time if you do breed, checking the box daily by getting a step ladder and such.. Having your babies in poo is not healthy and they can become sick and more..... Your right they can look healthy now and you know this clutch may be fine but in the future it is always good to change your practices for the better of the chicks. The members giving you this advice are experienced breeders and know what they are doing. . Other people may move the box and do other things and have no issues. Personally knowing the people on this board for over a year I would take their advice if I were you. You asked and they gave excellent advice. You will do what you want of course. I don't want you to take offensive and if you do I am sorry. They are right though

Budgie About To Die?
Please let us know what happened 12 yrs is a wonderful life and everyone has given you excellent advice I wish I was on last night but your morning is my night. Pretty was not even 2 when he passed away. It started as being fluffied up, the he couldn't perch and he layed on his side. I had him in a small cage with a towel on it with it covered. Pretty was tame so I picked him up and help him in my hand as he passed away to birdie heaven. The best thing you can do for a bird is to cover it and let it lay on the towel and keep it covered in the dark. It will feel safe (we hope) in it's last moments. I am sadden for you and hope you are okay.

Crested Types
I agree you may have to join a club for this. I don't know of anyone here on this site that comes regularly that breeds or has crested so your request will probably not be fullfilled.

Sand V Grit?
I always thought they needed it but when reading and learning read that budgies do hull their seeds unlike tiels and other bigger birds and so they do not require grit because of this. Again a personal decision I believe such as wing clipping. I don't give mine grit because of the things I have read about it causing impaction of the crop. Plus I don't breed.
