2 New Budgies, What Type?
pretty birds, they are probably sibling , they look wonderful out in the sun
-
Their Journey Begins
congrats? You got baby budgies , I didn't see where the parents mutations are listed.
-
My Budgie
when did you take out the mirror? you are talking in the present tense?
-
Why?
yes it is the small spot I see it on the 2nd pics , thank you

My Budgie
Bailey is seeing the other budgie in the mirror as a partner, mirrors are not good because budgies can become very obessed with them, possessive, and feed them like he is. I would suggest removing the mirror and you will see a difference in his social behavior with the other budgies. He may call for the mirror for a couple days but after that he will be okay. Mirrors where thought to be good back then but now have been proven to create unwanted behavior and obession.

Why?
a small spot indicates now that the budgie is split for the recessive pied gene Merlin has a very large spot on the back of his head which indicates he is a dominante pied

Can You Guys Confirm My Predictions For Me
I am not sure how you tell df and sf that is not how I ever heard it in the violet gene, did you read the PINNED article did it say anything about that, this is the first time I have heard it? I would assume the violet gene would be much deeper in a DF and a SF not as deep but I think the violet around the neck is a helpful indicator that they are carrying the gene if they whole body is not a violet such as my Merlin. Opalines to me remind me of bald eagles if it is an opaline spangle you should be able to see the opaline too.

Id Please
okay, I remember you saying that before, I just needed a reminder ....the other theory is that he is carrying the violet gene vs the opaline gene this would be a good question to ask the bigger breeders to see what they notice too.

How To Breed Yf2 Back To Yf1
If you breed a single factor YF with a White Face you are going to get 50% YF If you breed a double factor YF with a White Face you will get 100% YF Are you for sure the white face is not a double factor YF1? when this becomes a double factor it turns the bird's face white making you believe they are a true white face. One factor to consider is single factors & double factors YF2, I am not sure if that has much to do with how much the bleed it but it does affect how it bleeds into the body.

what a lovely pictures, way too sweet

Photographing Budgies
Yes, the only way to overcome it is to have the bird in the sunlight and then take a picture without flash that is how I get Merlin's natural look. The flash either makes him too bright of a blue or washes him out never does justice to his violet coloring.

Hanging Out
I love the 3rd picture how Milly is looking down at Squee way cute, excellent flying picture!!!

How To Breed Yf2 Back To Yf1
I didn't see anything about Yellowface 2 being dominant over Yellowface 1. I would essential think you would need to breed a white face to a yellowface 1 or 2 yellowface 1 together, adding the 1 & 2 together isn't going to stop the 2 from bleeding into the blue because the 2 is dominant over the 1. If you want recessive pieds you always need 2 recessive pieds genes or as normal said both birds or 1 splt to the gene to accomplish it works exactly like the blue gene as it is recessive. What norm said about 2 recessive pieds together creates a smaller bird is correct too as I have read that also so it really depends there too what you are looking for.

Strange New Budgie
I will be interested to see him in a month when he is all cleaned up to see how his feathers come back in. , he is a pretty one for sure.
-
Excitement!
Good luck, remember the checklist for the signs of a healthy budgie, I would assume you will find backyard breeders plus good ones so weeding that out making sure you are getting good quality birds for what you what. Have fun!!

Respiratory Infection?
I agree with Kaz, when birds all die at the same time it is more then a respiratory infection, I think something else is up.
