  1. Others may have a better answer but I googled it because I wanted to know myself, I can across this website that is very interesting because there are actually 3 types of fallows not just 1. http://www.geocities.com/fallowbudgies/hug...tm#IntroHugbook and http://www.geocities.com/fallowbudgies/library1.htm The way I see it it can not be related to the ino gene because this resides on the x chromosome and is sex-linked, fallow is a recessive gene which lays on a different allele and is not sex-linked. The reason why lacewing is related to ino is because this is a cross of 2 sex-linked genes. I don't see why you could not have a Fallow that is also a Lacewing because both the genes are on different alleles and one is sex-linked and one is not. Make sense? But I see where you are saying how about cinnamon since the fallow marking are brown. adding...doing further googling my assumation above was partiall correct.. Genetics: The Fallow is actually a mutation of a Green/Blue Budgie that had dark brown wavy design on a golden yellow background. The rest of the bird was olive yellow, the eyes were dark red and the legs were pink. This description shows that their is only a small difference between Fallow and Cinnamon. The Fallows brown is darker than the Cinnamon. Fallows have one easily distinguishable feature, namely their dark red eyes. The red is darker than that of the Albino and Lutino. The hereditary factor for Fallow is recessive to the factors of normal Budgies. That means, you lose the features of the Fallow when you cross them with other colour variants. To describe the Fallow factor we can compare it with Albino and Lutino. With the latter, it is a case of an absent melanin factor, the one that produces pigment. The melanin factor is double, it consists of black and dark brown pigment. Switching to Fallows, in their case there is a color change in the melanin, where the black is apparently pushed aside by the brown. The recessive Fallow factor is not sex-linked. to read all genetic information and predication click here http://www3.sympatico.ca/davehansen/fallow.html

  15. Elly replied to Cara's topic in Health Questions and Tips
all good advice, also the way you arrange her cage giving her flat perches or platforms off the floor but still low will probably help her too, one thing is that animals get along they don't feel sorry for each other and you probably can see that your other bird loves her just the same, don't feel sorry for her I know it looks terrible but remember she knows nothing different, helping her get along is the best thing you can do plus all the love you already are giving her .

I find this thread even more fansinating now , I love reading your experiences , keep it coming, plus I do learn!
  17. If his poops are sloppy and he is huddled and quiet then you need to get him to an avian vet ASAP. Keep him very warm and covered. I am hoping it is nothing but it sounds very similar to what had happened to Pretty. So fingers crossed he is better and doesn't go down hill quickly. Do you have an avian vet already in mind? The faster the better.
  18. Elly replied to kim's topic in Budgie Pictures
Clipping wings is not stressful if done correctly it takes no more then a couple minutes if that it is snip snip that is how it was when the avian vet did Merlin's. They making all the squawking sounds worse then it is . I agree with Liv with her above statement on doing both sides, you never want to do just 1 it is very dangerous for birds because they can't fly evenly they go in a circle pattern and can crash. Continue with the taming tips in the FAQ it is patience and that week you want to give up could be the break through you were waiting for.
  19. awe, you know my in-laws are like that too, I was so worried when Merlin spent 2 weeks there and he did come home with a respiratory irritation (he had brown up by his nostrils) it is now gone thank goodness.
  20. Sounds like reguritation here is the difference between reguritation and vomiting Reguritation vs Vomiting Regurgitation looks just like when the cockbird is feeding either babies or hen. They are bringing it up into their throat to feed others. They arch their head and neck and then bob their heads up and down to bring the food up. Regurgitation is an up and down movement. This is a normal behavior. Read more: Why does my budgie regurgitate for me (or another object)? Vomiting is a bit stronger like convulsive and the bird shakes it head side to side and splatters the vomit. Vomiting is a sideways shaking of the head. If your bird if vomiting you need to call your Avian Vet immediately this is a sign of sickness.
  21. Rose is is beautiful and I love his name it fits him!!!
  22. I use that website myself, I notice though that the information about figuring out genetics has not been working, I am not sure how accurate that part is I would make sure I find it in other informational sites too...not saying it is not accurate but I agree with Norm on the fact that the V pattern and the reverse stripes on the head is what makes the opaline and opaline.
  23. Elly replied to Jodie's topic in Budgie Behaviour
when given a choice budgies will want to be with other budgies especially if they are around in a different cage
  24. Elly replied to kim's topic in Budgie Pictures
Not sure how long you have had Benny but it does take time to bond and tame down budgies especially if they were purchased from a pet shop. Read over this article http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...ighlight=taming you will find a lot of wonderful ideas and if you follow it I guarantee your budgie will become tamer quicker.
