Buying Shop Birds
Here is a place by us they are a pet shop and they have a wonderful selection plus a great clean place for all their birds, read over what their guarantee is I really like it parrotville.com, I have never bought from them but I did enjoy their shop, now I have been to smaller end shops like this one that are terrible too and breeders for other types of animals that are complete backyard and would never recommend them, in the FAQ we do have a great checklist on how to Evaulate a Breeder & Pet Shop you may want to review.

My Budgies Don't Stop Breeding
The hen needs a break or the hen is going to end up getting sick and breed herself to death. I am no expert but do you still have a nesting box in there? What have you done to the eggs once she starts her clutch again? There are many different things you can do like addle the eggs, replace them with fake ones etc...to work on stopping the hen from laying...I know others with more expertise will come and advise too. If you don't provide the correct circumstance they will "usually" stop laying on their own but it sounds like you let her keep lay and letting the eggs hatch...

My Budgies Are Acting Weird Any One With Any Ideas?
Yep Erin is right it is a social behavior and has nothing to do with their sexuality, be glad they are enjoying each other's company and not fighting

Hobbes& Claire's Taming Journal
Thank you Tam when l take them into the bedroom or bathroom, l usually will let them get on my finger and l constantly talk to them, whistle to them and l know this may sound silly but l have started to sing to them too. they do look at me like l'm crazy have you been using millet to reward him? unfortunately with some budgies, they might take a while to be tamed, another member had the same problems as you are having with her budgie too, the member is Elly, she wrote an article in the FAQ section on taming if you would like to read it http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...;highlight=tame also, since you mentioned that your budgie is molting, he is probably grumpy at the moment but that will soon pass. my budgie Claire is also very grumpy and likes to bite me at the moment because she is starting a molt. please keep us updated on your progress with your budgie, l would love to follow your journey with taming your budgie too. Thank you for that. I have been following the FAQ section article, but I guess I am afraid of Coco becoming older and harder to train before he has made much progress. I don't know whether this was just a silly thought Everybody on the forum has been very helpful though. I often seem to read about people who make really quick progress, and i don't seem to be getting anywhere :hap: And yes, i do use millet to reward him, but he doesn't seem to want it enough to jump on my finger for it. He is such a stubborn little birdy How is your training going? Is he clipped? I know people hate doing it but it make a world of difference in any age bird.

Buying Shop Birds
It just depends, I don't have any experience with private budgie sellers here but I do with rabbits and backyard breeders can be if not worse then the pet shops around in my area, it is just doing the research and finding once that mets your expection. Is there a difference between smaller pet shops vs larger chains in my area no in fact I have seen the larger pet shop have healthier budgies and better conditions then some of the smaller shops in my area. I think you just have to keep looking and look at some private breeders too every area is different but continue to do your searching you may even want to check out rescues organizations in your area if you are not looking for babies you can find a wonderful unwanted budgie out there too that needs a good home.

Water
I wouldn't add salt that I heard is very dangerous for birds, I would suppose it would have them become more thirsty so you can see them drinking, trust me if your bird is acting normal it is getting what it needs, I never see Merlin drink and it has been 2 years so don't worry he is fine .

Possums...
I agree with Karen and Dave don't feed them they are a nuisance animal and though they don't eat the budgies, the poops can cause disease, they do destroy as Karen said and they can wreak your aviary trying to get in or out and you may end up having holes and missing birds from them escaping. Possums here in the US can be a nuisance.

Help On Classing These Two Boys....
I agree and I also think that one looks grey but if it is a grey it is a full body greywing which is different then a grey wing because of the coloration of the body.

Buddy Has A Friend :)
Different personalities just like humans some humans are more laid back and don't stick up for themselves or push back they figure why fight it isn't worth and and that is probably how your Buddy is, I have read and heard conflicting that there is not an order of dominance in the budgie world and then there is, I believe in any animal "flock or pack" there is some order of dominance and your new bird is probably more dominant then your Buddy, I wouldn't worry about it they will work it out. As long as you have enough seed bowls, water and your cage is large & you have a good amount of flight time fand mental stimulation everything should be okay.

Are Eggshells Better Than Calcium/mineral Blocks
I would say yes and I am just using my common sense it because it is natural and not processed, though cuttlebone is from the cuttlefish it still is process and most likely loose nutrients like anything that is processed.

Captain Morgan And Finger Taming
I find that they are pretty quiet in the beginning, remember he had all his birdie friends to chat up with now he has a human that he is getting used too, once he is intro to your other bird when quarantine is over you will find he will start chatting again, Pretty was very quiet then I got Merlin and was shocked how loud he became .

My New Budgie
In the avian world the vets recommend 3 months....but at least a good 4 SOLID weeks.

My New Budgie
She looks like an Opaline Dominant Pied, are her throat spots brown? If so she would also be a cinnamon, to me she looks skyblue

My Budgie Chicks
I agree with Kaz, and your budgie is sweet. As for clipping Pretty came clipped and his wings grew out, Merlin was clipped and his grew out and then I did have him clipped last year after Pretty died to work on trust and taming since then he has not been clipped again. Clipping is great way to be able to work with them one on one and not chasing them non clipped birds are hard to tame because they can get away from you and also hurt themselves. Some people keep their budgies clipped all the time for saftey because of ceiling fans but one thing I tell people don't think a clip bird can't get out of the door and fly away because all they need is a little lift from the new feathers molting in and they are off so always be careful. Also if you have cats and dogs keeping them unclipped is a good idea for that safetly because then they can get away from danger...so many ifs and buts why do you want to clip?
