you may want to also give her other things to shred to along with a preening toy to help keep her busy in different areas, also using different toys where they can forage for food will help out with stripping so much and so quickly.
  3. first you should never have your cage permanantly outside unless it is a secured aviary the feather dust is bad for people's lungs especially if you have more then one budgie and when they go through a molt so that yes can be harmful. the other thing you can get from birds is psittacosis which is rare people who get this usually have large scale avaries where birds come in an out all the time and that is why they do strict quarantine. One of our members, Kaz contracted this and she is okay she was just very sick. I would suggest having your bird in a different location because of the feather dust and molting more then anything. If that is not possible just keep the cage very clean. BUT NEVER leave a bird outside in a cage bad things do happen. Welcome.
  4. You I know may be able to do a google but I would contact the Department that deals with this specifically since every country is different, I know from the US to England it was a very long drawn out process (months).
  5. Exellent photography, I enjoyed them all

Libby I think it is the name or something because Bella means beautiful but I didn't name him , there is a huge sporting goods store called Cabela's here in our parts and that is where the foster mom picked him up from the rescuer and so she named him after the store. Well I never changed it and now he knows his name but everyone thinks he is a girl all the time too .

Yes spring has sprung another 70 F degree day here today, I just hope we don't have a surprise snow storm but the latest one I remmber was on April 24th and that was 4 years ago where we got 24 inches of snow so I think we are in the safe zone . Thank you both for your words...
  10. you are going to have to copy and send me to min an attachment I want to see
  11. It is normal as Liv said make sure that your nails are clean. I believe and this is my thoughts that birds like to flirt with fingernails & toes lol because they are very similar to a cere on another bird. Merlin flirts with my thumbnail all the time and occasinally will bite it.
  12. when you are building up an immune system it is very hard to use the convential ways...do a google search with key words and you will find a lot of information to read. Here is a website that I found and then you can google the different products on more information http://www.birdalog.com/index.cfm/S/46/Pet...Supplements.htm Whatever you do if it helps or not Percy is in such loving hands.
  13. Welcome to the forums Having first hand experience with what you went through it is all about what you want and if you want to bring a 2nd bird into the picture. When Pretty died we decided on just 1 bird and Merlin has been flying sole for a year now and he is completely okay. They are quiet within the first couple months because they are unsure their companion is gone but the more time you spend with him the more social he will become with you. If you don't have the time then getting a 2nd bird maybe a good idea. As Kaz said, you must quarantine for 30 day which means keep your new bird out of ear range and in a completely different rooms so you can observe the new bird for any illness it may carry. So you will have to have another cage (it can be smaller) to use for the next 30 days before you introduce them.
  14. oh he is absolutely gorgeous, congratulations and I love the name!
  15. Since so many members like to learn more about mutations and other aspects of budgies I am going to try and do a question with a poll. The poll will close within a week therefore it gives everyone a chance if they don't come everyday. Instead of just putting the answer we will do it as a poll therefore it will make it more fun and lets see if our members as a whole know budgies mutations, behaviors, and more... If you have a suggestion for a poll please PM me and let me know your idea . What mutation is this bird? DO NOT PUT YOUR ANSWER ON THIS POST & DON'T REPLY PLEASE

Your husband is right. Read my article in the FAQ section about Taming Your Budgie you will find that I first tamed Pretty and then got Merlin and what happened when I did. . Be patient it takes a couple months if not more to gain complete confidence. If you want your bird really tame don't get another one until you have bonded completely with him. Welcome to the forums.

okay...NickNack Cabela is waiting for you Cabela, the miniature pinscher (we adopted him last year in January, he was rescued out of a puppymill, they were using him just for breeding, he had a lot of issues that we are overcoming) Niketa, our husky we have had since a pup, she will be 14 yr this year, she is the boss of the 2 OH and our friend the frog hehe...I entered him in the 4 legged contest
  20. Adding our 4 legged friend, we have small kidney shaped pond and he found his way last year to it with spring sprung he has come back very early...(maybe it is a she who knows) The Frog...
  21. he is beautiful and what a wonderful picture you really need to submit that into the May Budgie of the Month As for the cage issues, I had the same exact problem with Pretty this is what I did. I covered his cage with a blanket when he was out therefore he stayed by me and learned that nothing was going to hurt him. He needs to trust you he does in the cage but now you can move to trust outside of the cage. If he still flies back to the cage remove the cage from site, I had to do that too with Pretty lol but it does work and you will find he will trust you more then the cage and that is what you want. Keep us updated Scott I enjoy reading how he is progressing.
  22. I agree with Kaz every bird needs a home...and she is very pretty You had a couple questions in the beginning. She is quiet and won't move because at this time she is probably fearful keep her quiet because in a week or so she will change and may start reacting to being scared such as biting this is very common with new budgies but you need to understand that no movement, being able to pet your bird is not acceptance of you but fear. Birds are not cats and dogs and don't like to be petted they do like a scratch on the top of their heads, neck area and that is about it. As for talking, females can learn to mimic very well talking is more difficult and boy budgies do talk better. No budgie is guaranteed to talk so if you got a bird for it to talk you may be disappointed. BBC has a wonderful article about Taming & Bringing a New Budgie home article in the FAQ's section, I suggest you read it talks about what do to the first week with your pet budgie, how to go about taming and more...

Oh my gosh how exciting!!! SO PROUD OF YOU
  24. I can attest to that lol...Kaz sent me a baby hen cere looked totally male at first glance but she showed me later on this hen grown up and it was a hen when I looked back what I saw was though the cere was very pick and no nare rings it wasn't very smooth it was more grainy and flat vs a more smooth bulbeous like cere which is more like a male.
  25. I am going to hope for the best and hope those antibiotics kick in. Dave, I don't think you are heartless it is your decision my I agree or not doesn't matter we know that you take care of your birds and do what is best for them. You are the only one that can make that very important decision. Good Luck!
