Important - Merlin Almost Died
You were right Kaz, it is everywhere the little down feathers not the ones on his head so that is why I am not forcing an issue with the millet, I just want to keep him eating period at this point, I am also still keeping the room very warm as tonight is a cold night but the days are still warm but I want to keep him like he is in a hospital cage for a few more days so he is less stressed.

Budgie Mood ?
Having just dealt with a diet change, did you gradually introduce the diet or did you just give it to her? One thing that I believe is when a budgie has a mood change being from listless to nasty something has happened. I would make sure you are combining her old food with her new food until her body adjusted. The black/grey is the poo which is the food that is going through her body and the white is the fluids hence it is urine. When you only see white it means the bird has not eaten and if you only see black then the bird is not drinking. A picture would be good.

A Great Lesson To Us All
Michelle, this is so true, we have many members coming on here looking for a quick FIX so they don't have to take the bird to an avian vet, I believe if you don't know what you are doing or know what you are giving a vet is the best bet. Even with the advice given on here we are not "vets" so the best thing you can do is take the bird to the vet.

Wing Clipping
Wing clipping really I believe does depend on your situation too. If you have fans, people who come in and out of the house without being announced, if you don't have screens that are secure on your windows or there is ANY chance he can get out of the house or hit by a fan that is not turned off it is best to consider clipping for safety reasons. DO know that a clipped bird can get flight and get out of reach though so just because they are clipped doesn't mean they still can't fly out the door. It only take a month once they are clipped to start getting flights back and then usually within 3-6 months everything grows back in. Since you are purchasing from AV, I am sure she can show you the first couple times how to clip if you decide to keep him clipped. It is all a personal choice, I know Pretty was clipped when I got him and then I let him become flighted. I loved that he flew around so gracefully, knew the house, didn't hit the walls it was amazing but he also started to get attitude where he became the boss. See they know that you can't get them if they are flighted so they do get a bit ornery. I never did reclip Pretty but when he died I did redo Merlin and that really helped with me bonding to him since he had a strong bond with Pretty. Since then he is not clipped but I don't give him the whole house because I do have cats he has my office were he flys around. It was getting to risky making sure the cats are away when the birds wanted to come and play and then I was really worried about doors, flying in the kitchen and other hazards but that is me. I would NEVER recommend this clipped birds CAN get enough flight to get away from you in an instant.

13 Years...
We today is Tim and I's 13 yr anniversary . We actually have known each other for 21 though. So today I thought was a regular day. He went to work and I got the kids off to school, cleaned the leaves out of the pool and decided to do an intense exercise tape that has been collecting dust since it was threatening rain and I didn't want to do my usual hour walk. Anyways, I am 1/2 way through it and the doorbell rings and there is a gentlemen with a dozen roses in front of his face....my husband of course. I am sweating to death LOL, in pain and he comes with roses, a card and a present. Now about 6 months ago my ruby in my wedding ring fell out so I put it aside so I could get it fixed, well guess what he got the ruby replaced, polished up the ring and they said good thing I almost lost the center diamond too : so they replaced prongs. So now we are off to lunch for the day - I think we may eat in before the rat race starts with the kids coming home from school. What a surprise , I just wanted to share.

Important - Merlin Almost Died
Yes, you read it right. It was Saturday and I noticed he was very quiet all day. By evening he had white sloppy poos and no black in them which indicated he had stopped eating. I though OH here we go again what have I done wrong. I only lost Pretty about a year and 1/2 ago. I warmed up the room and kept him quiet. I didn't know if he would pull through the night and my husband checked up on him and said he was okay but very quiet. He showed no signs of illness other then listness and white sloppy poos. In the morning, I pm'd a couple of members on the forum, Kaz and Libby to see what I could do. It was Sunday and there are no avian vet's open and the ER vets are only good for dogs and cats. I did some deduction and realized that I needed to get him to eat so I took him out and I gave him millet he started to eat it and then his poo's turned black and sloppy so then I changed the water often and enticed him to drink with splashing my fingers it worked but took awhile. When he feels good he is always up for a good splash with me. By afternoon we had wet poos but white/black and he did take a bath in the afternoon by himself but he was still very quiet. I kept feeding him millet and getting him to drink. I looked for the raspberry cordial but there was nothing and we decided to try I believe the apple juice that I say Neat suggested but by evening he seems 80% better. He sang a bit, he was perching on his swing now and his poo's were normal. By Monday morning he was 95% better and I decided along with talking with Kaz that he probably didn't need an avian vet. SO the deduction what happened? I gota different BIRD SEED, it looked the same, but it was a different brand and for some reason he didn't touch it at all. I noticed that on Sunday but I didn't think it could have been the food. Thank goodness I saw the symptoms and realized what was going on he would have starved to death. Today he has his regular bird seed but for some reason he has gone on strike because I spoiled him? He refused to eat anything but millet now so for now I am going with it, offering his seed in the same bowl putting some millet in it and I hope it catches on for now I just want to make sure he is okay. I wanted to share this important story with you. BIRDS will Starve themselves!!

Does Your Budgie Talk?
Yes, Merlin and Pretty both talked. I have a video of Pretty talking on the forum and Merlin does talk but I have yet to get him on video. The best thing you can do is not waste your money and do it yourself he will repeat what he hears over and over the easiest words are pretty, sweet, baby those are ones you can start with.

Breeding
As MB, said in our FAQ is excellent informaiton about breeding. I suggest if you have the ability is to separate them, give each pair their own space with no interference from any other budgie and give them their own box. That way you can ensure there are no fights over the nesting box. This is called closed breeding but if you have to do open breeding yes as MB said you need more nesting boxes at different levels. Please post a picture of your set up so we can be of more assistance.
